Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
OOS schools seemed to show me way more love than my instate schools as well. But that was cool since I was about an inch away from bailing out of there anyway.

My IS schools are baiscally ignoring me. I want some love from more NY schools.

You've already gotten NY love...be nice and let us in-staters have some invites!😛

I would be less worried if I got some other invites under my belt, but that's not the case. Looking at your MDApps... I'm sure you will be okay! I wouldn't worry too much if I were you 🙂

Hm, odd. I'm OOS and I've having phenomenal luck so far getting interviews at the SUNYs. Have every one except Downstate.

They only have one studio album: †

'Genesis' is such a good opening to an album.

They have a live album also called: 'A cross the universe'

New one coming 2010.

It's all about that bass riff in D.A.N.C.E. ...so tight

aw, thanks! I've been really fortunate and gotten some great invites-it's not so much that I don't think I'll get in anywhere (although anything could happen), more like it would be nice to have a cheaper in-state option...all the schools i've been to so far have an estimated cost/year at 60-70K including living expenses😱 I was expecting debt, but it starts getting scary when the 4 year total gets up towards 300,000!!!

haha it sounds like you're talking about playing cards or something. congrats, you almost have the limited-time only complete collector's edition of 2009 SUNY interview invites😛

Hey guys!

where is everyone going? im in florida and I jus dont know between USF, UF, and Miami...

I got accepted at one but im not sure if i should bother applying to others. I was in their medical program and ALMOST got kicked out. BUT didnt😉

UF and UM are pretty similar in terms of educational qualities, so the choice really is do you want to live in a college town or a big city? That's assuming the money is pretty similar, of course.

Just curious - how are the UF hospitals and patient diversity? It's in Gainesville, I mean really? It's not like it's Charlottesville or a college town known for being different or anything. This isn't hating, it's just me being curious. School looks good on paper, but I wouldn't be too sure about rotations and such.

Shands gets patients from all over, and they do some rotations in Jacksonville as well. Plus, with Shands @ AGH closing down next month, there will be a pretty large influx of underserved people to Shands @ UF.

Hm, odd. I'm OOS and I've having phenomenal luck so far getting interviews at the SUNYs. Have every one except Downstate.

Yea, I've had some success with the SUNYs as well. Oddly enough, the state of Ohio has given me as many interviews as the state of Florida, even though all the Ohio schools are ranked higher than even the highest ranked Florida school and I applied to 4 Ohio vs. 6 Florida schools.

u dont care about moving to the other side of the country? I really hate the idea of going cali--> NY. Id at least like to stay in like oregon or something if i couldnt make it at a UC.

I would love to go to med school in NY. I mean part of me wants to stay here, but at the same time, I've always wanted to live in the empire state.

Sorry, but I want it too.:meanie:

makes sense, we are the coolest😎

and so selfish! maybe we don't want you in our state!!!😛

Has anyone withdrawn from a school yet? I'm not sure of how to write my withdrawal letter. :\

luun has a ton of invites! it makes sense not to want to waste the money to go to all of them. as far as how to write it, I guess just be as nice as possible. I would try and compliment the school and just say it's just not the right one for you at this time but thank them for the opportunity, etc. i guess if you make them mad it doesn't matter too much anyways since it's not like they can reject you after you withdraw😛

Yeah, financing for 17 interviews just isn't going to happen. For now I'm only withdrawing from one or two that I know I probably will not go to. (Now that I've seen the schools I've been to already...)

Hey, what do you NYers think about SUNY Upstate and the Syracuse area?

Hey, what do you NYers think about SUNY Upstate and the Syracuse area?

SUNY Upstate is a great school.

The actual city of Syracuse is pretty low key. Not much goes on there other than Syracuse basketball games, etc. If you're not into the pace of the larger cities like NY, Chicago, Philly... you may like the area a lot. It's all personal preference, really.

psssh. city FTW.

how rude! but i do agree haha. i would LOVE to live in nyc for a while, but unfortunately don't think I have the numbers to get in to one of the manhattan ones, downstate doesnt seem to like me, and einstein is an awesome school but definitely not the "real" city (the area it's in is quiet seeming and you have to take a 1 hour bus ride to get downtown) . oh well, maybe for residency🙂

oh man, i know a bunch of people that would slap you so hard for saying one of the outer boroughs isn't the "real city." 😛

haha uh oh!😱 but you have to agree, there is a very different feeling in upper bronx than there is in manhattan/brooklyn

i mean, i agree. i just know a lot of people who are very defensive of their home boroughs. bronx, queens, SI in particular... brooklyn is so hipster now that it needs no defending.

no. but after 5+ years, i feel like i get to call myself a new yorker.

What kind of environment did you live in before? Small town? Medium town? Big city? I've lived in all 3 myself and I have a really tough time deciding which is better right now, it seems like they all have their advantages....

Ah, I see, I want to give the place a second chance. The first time I passed by there, I wanted to crash at a hotel there for the night, but when I tried to enter a hotel its doors were locked. I was like WTF? I mean, is it like common or something up north?

I'd just send a short email. Doesn't need to be fancy.

Maybe something like this?:

I like NYC, but I don't think I could ever live there. Toooooo high of taxes for me. Plus I could buy a house here if I wanted one, I could maybe afford a box in manhattan.

Uhhh. No, that is definitely odd. 😕

What terrible advice, don't you know AMCAS ID is 8 digits? :meanie:

Uhhh. No, that is definitely odd. 😕

Yea, I knocked for quite a while before someone came and opened the door. I decided that the area didn't seem too safe and ended up staying at some motel further down the way.

i grew up in a *super* small town. my parents moved to suburban boston after i left for college (large town/small city, i guess). i like cities the best-- i hate driving, love walking, love public transit, love shopping, love people-watching, love how neighborhoods change over the course of just a couple of blocks, etc.

am i the only one watching this twins/tigers business?!?!? i have almost peed my pants at least three times since we entered extra innings. jeeeebus!

I like medium-sized cities. Or busy suburbs of medium to large cities. I don't think I could do a big city for longer than 4 yrs. Maybe I could pull med school and residency in a big city, but I don't know.

TWINS/YANKEES TOMORROW NIGHT!!!!

i am thrilled.

this was a CRAZY game. wow.

So minnesota won. Poor detroit, always out of luck.

pssssh, no sympathy from me. the last time detroit played us in the playoffs, i wasted $62 and skipped my afternoon classes to watch mussina suck like no yankee pitcher has ever sucked before.

i'm much more confident facing the twins than the tigers. although they certainly have momentum now, so it should be exciting!

OMG!!! They're showing the Spurs-Rockets preseason game here in Houston!😀

I'm way too giddy for a preseason game, but it's the Spurs, dammit 😛

I agree. I love my medium-sized city. I've never really lived in a large city (unless you count Vegas for 1 year?) so I don't have any personal opinions on it, but they seem way too hectic for me. :\
