thanks.

seriously. i feel like i'm in this weird, in between place-- stats too high for GWU/georgetown/NYMC/jefferson/etc to take me seriously, and stats too low for the rest of my schools to take me seriously. come on, schools! i would be thrilled if any of you wanted me!

not to make you feel anxious, but a 3.9/40 I know got an interview at Jefferson, and his interviewer greeted him with something to the effect of 'you have a 3.9/40, why are you applying here.' so make sure you've got a response for that other than rambling bs like he did :meanie:

not saying this isnt true, but why would any school want to demean itself like that? by saying that they are basically admitting they kind of suck and arent worthy of top applicants...seems kind of stupid. for all they know, applicants like dw might want to go there the most for whatever reason.

anywho, i dont know much, but i know this process sucks a big one.

yeah, im slightly concerned about this as well...i'm considering scrapping GWU/Georgetown and possibly Loyola because I have a feeling I might not be getting any love from them because my stats are way above their averages...on the other hand it seems stupid not to apply broadly and I don't want to take any chances...arghh i don't know what to do...any thoughts? 😕😕

Apply to the schools you would go to. I mean, yes, people with high stats are gonna likely lean towards the bigger name schools. But these schools aren't stupid. They aren't gonna turn someone with great stats away who seems interested in their school. But you gotta act like you care. If you don't put much effort into their secondary or whatever else, they aren't gonna want to put much effort into you.

Or at least, this is what I keep telling myself.

i think if you're prepared for the question with some reasons why you like the school and location, that's all you can do. that's my plan.

Yeah, fair enough. I'll probably end up keeping my list the same...my committee letter won't get sent until the end of August anyways, so I guess I've got time to write some convincing essays...

I think it's pretty easy to weed out those with high stats that are using the schools for backups. My solution: use the agonizing wait method.

They don't have to give you an offer until March/April, and if you really want to go there, you'll accept the offer. I guess the real dilemma is whether or not to spend time/money on interviewing top applicants. It could be said that the waiting game would work for that too. Top applicants that aren't interested are going to be getting a lot of other interviews, and they'll be sick of interviews at other schools by December. If they get an interview from a backup that they don't care about in December, I'm sure it'd be an easy decision to turn it down. If they actually care, they'd schedule the interview for January.

That's my theory on the whole matter. I don't know what schools actually do.

whats the statistic? 7% of those with >3.8 and > 40 MCAT don't get into one MD school (i have a friend with a 3.9 and 37 that went to SGU). But doctors always say if you want it bad enough, you will get it. I'm just applying broadly to whatever that looks interesting and hopefully I can get in somewhere talking about what I really enjoyed doing in undergrad and beyond.

Maybe you misread the statistic. They get into every school except one.

I know. I was trying to be sarcastic and apparently failing miserably.

Maybe a bunch of those people are socially inept and drooled during their interviews.

yea thats def possible or they had no ECs or whatever. 7% is a pretty low number and some people do freeze up in front of others (which I find really funny)

I wonder how someone got in with ~2.6 and <14. Fairly impressive, in an odd way.

Point 2 - at least there isn't a sudden drop in acceptance rates for >3.8/>39. That would be proof enough that some people who study a lot to do well ruin their social skills.

Just bought my airline ticket. Pretty cheap, actually.

Just the 1-2 weeks thing. Unless I had the other one this morning before I got up.

I really don't like waiting, but if I had an interview within the next 2 weeks I would be freaking out.

apparently my parents have hella thousands of miles that i can use. awesome

Yeah, I used to get $50 standby tickets through a family member until about 6 months ago. Not any more. 👎

well it was an immediate family member..that ended up at a top 5 school so i guarantee it's true, im sure they picked up some bs in his essays, im honestly not familiar with what the essays are/were for jefferson, but if one of them asked 'why here,' a generic answer combined with high numbers probably seals the deal on making it appear that it is a safety school for the given applicant, just my take 🙂

Never heard of the ruptured duck, but the wiki article is interesting.

😆 Riiiight...

you probably sent in one with a crown atop your head. im sure youll be getting similar comments...only theyll be saying your picture doesnt do you justice because youre not wearing that heinous crown in person.:meanie: or lets hope not 🙄

Aww, but I really wanted to wear the crown to my interviews. I feel like it matches my suit really well.

Oh, and how do I get an official SDN title without doing anything?

Can I be like "perpetraitor" or "assistant perpetraitor?"

Perhaps "Official SDN voyeur?"

😀

OK, I'll settle for un-Official?

And I would like a beer.

I love this show. Even though it's only on DVD for me.
