Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
yea i liked maceo's advice. that one kid who bolded and underlined and red fonted I HATE YOU...like seriously!? i hope youre never in a clinic where you encounter some poor girl who has dealt with hardships and is now looking for advice on what to do with her pregnancy at 14....these people have no sympathy. their horses are way too tall for this profession 🙄

oh and if any of you guys on THIS thread are the type of premeds were talking about, take the BBC outta your butts...i dont wanna go to school with such uptight individuals 🙂

I think there's a bit of a difference in showing sympathy for a patient and showing sympathy for someone who is obviously trying to lie to get ahead. That being said, the rudeness and the "oh I'm so much better than you" in the thread isn't necessary. No, I don't think s/he should lie. I think a lot of people have stuff they wish they could lie about, but they don't. I thought about lying about my IA. Everyone with someone like that is bound to toy with the idea at some point. It just kinda blows up if you make that thought public, especically on SDN. People here always have to state their opinion and if someone else already said it, they say it again but more emphatically. This eventually leads to "you're the scum of the earth. i hope you die."

says the dude who jumped on me, calling me a gunner when i calmly asked a legitimate question about grades 😉
omg i did not jump on you, i made a joke that you got angry at, i also did give you advice that you asked for!!!! 😛. I even said sorry after taht. Women never let anything go man

Hey everyone! I'm just checking in. I'll be applying this cycle as well, but by the sounds of it you guys are waaaaaay ahead of me.

Anyway, Whaaaaaddddaaaaaaap!

i was just joshin' ya! no worries

Thanks! I'll need it!

Thanks! This place is crazy! You guys have 443 pages already!!! I'm just going to put this out there now, I'm not going to read all that... 🙂

haha yeah, i go to bed waaaay earlier than most of these kids and i don't even bother catching up when i check in in the morning.

MD for me too. i'm surprised we don't have anyone considering DO; i feel like there is usually a strong contingent on SDN.

Ha ha. At the rate this thread looks like it's moving I can't say that I blame you.

i do research with substance P in lung mast cells!

Nice, man! What are you guys looking at with the mast cells as they relate to Substance P? I've always been interested in the neural correlates of chronic pain, I actually almost did my thesis on it, but did psychosurgery/functional neurosurgery instead. I suppose substance p will always have a special place in my heart though. 😀

Just MD for me.🙂

Nice! I think I'm just going MD this cycle as well, but was considering DO.

MD for me too. i'm surprised we don't have anyone considering DO; i feel like there is usually a strong contingent on SDN.

Yeah, that is pretty strange. If I don't get in this cycle I'm definitely applying DO next cycle.

my project focuses more on the complement system but i found an alternative pathway for g protein direct signaling which we think substance p is partaking (http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/journal/119391353/abstract?CRETRY=1&SRETRY=0) basically somewhat intertwined with that article, focusing on histamine release -> bronchiole constriction -> asthma

I'm applying to both MD and the couple of DO schools in the area like PCOM and UMDNJ SOM. I'm always in a world of my own so whenever i opened a box of legos or built a desk or whatever I never looked at the instruction manual. As long as I have whatever degree society requires me to practice and I enjoy the area (which is usually everywhere), I'm down

lol i know, its just women scare me 😛. Their wrath is worse then anything in the world :scared:

i couldnt apply DO. I would personally feel as if i failed, I know MD=DO basically, same pay, job description, blah blah blah. But i would find it really hard to go DO, w/o at least 2 application cycles for MD. Not to mention the stigma from those elitist docs...which i have personally seen a fair amount of while doing research at the hospital.

what u guys think?

drive to nashville from philly (without resting in between) and meet up with friends in ATL for the weekend

or just fly there and come back w/o searching for TI?

Thanks! I'll need it!

You have to read all the pervious pages in order to start posting here. There's a quiz.

:hello: Hey!

Is anyone here applying DO as well as MD? Or is this pretty much just MD?
MD here. I don't know if there is anyone that posts here that's applying DO too. Probably not.

Drive, it's always more fun. I HATE airport security, lines, ticketing, prices, parking, luggage, airplane seats, food, etc.

jk about the quiz btw. welcome to our thread!

The link doesn't work for me, but your research sounds pretty interesting.

I completely agree with your philosophy for med school. It won't matter when all is said and done as long as you can practice. I feel that way too, but I would rather apply the $200 for the DO apps to my MD apps since I can only afford a few this year.

You say that now... I was already through page 216... Sigh... 😉

i have a theory about the med school application process...if everyone was 100% honest, only 5% of the applicant pool would be accepted...🙄

well it is in the pre-allo forum

nvm saw that someone above was applyin to both.

Probably more like 1%. 99% of pre-meds are either: evil, liars, greedy, cheaters, bitchy, or annoyingly stupid.

Which category do I fall into? none, i'm food, i have no category

I'm going to take a week off of SDN and see if I feel less stressed by the burden of knowing when secondaries and interviews are being released. Peace.

actually...good idea. me too. ill be back next friday. later guys

me!! I got an interview invite from creighton...i feel like not a total failure at least now lol.
Congrats! I was waiting for you to get some good news, you deserve it.
As I see it, once you get the interview, the luck's kind of out the window now and it's all on you to be awesome.

Oh, look - an inadvertant top. It's just not as fun anymore.

So true. I everyone that I know who's been accepted to med school has "embellished" some of their experience. It's the nature of the beast.

Any time you're selling yourself to the best of your ability, you are going to tiptoe the line between truth and embellishment. I think it's totally fine as long as you don't lie and don't make up stuff that didn't happen. This applies to regular job interviews as well as med school apps.

I agree. This is how people get ahead the world. The key is also seeing how experiences relate to one another. This allows for embellishment without crossing the line.
