so how strict is this supposed october 15 rule for notification? drexel status page says my decision has been reached and mailed out. i am so nervous about this

i dont know why but i loled at this . . . i think because it sounds exactly like something i would say to someone.

and it appears its already been discussed but . . . i dont know why everyone is so surprised about the olympics. rio seemed like the obvious choice to me. and IMO Chicago couldn't handle it. It takes me two hours to drive anywhere just when Lollapalooza is there, i cant even imagine the logistical nightmare the Olympics would have been. it would shut down the entire RUQ of the state. no thanks.

I agree. I really did not expect Chicago to get it, and they didn't. Rio had the best case. It has never been in South America. This is the Olympics, a global affair. It was an obvious decision IMO

exactly! everyone is saying how it's such a shocker and a slap in the face. uhh . . . what? it would be a shocker and a slap in the face if Rio didn't get it. is everyone in america really so self-entitled? (ok, i know the answer to that, actually. 🙄)
 
The lack of interview invites is literally killing me. I don't know where I should vent my frustrations.

how did you like drexel and philly? thats crazy that they sent out admissions already. i didnt get a secondary from there yet and im like responsible for 10% of their student body actually making it in (mcat)

i am ok. to be totally honest, if i just got into MCW and nowhere else i'd be really happy with that. if i get into any chicago schools, my life will get a lot more complicated . . . because i want to move away, but my boyfriend doesn't. at least if i ONLY get into one school I can play the 'well i HAVE to go here, i have no other options' card. im sure it's equally tricky for those of you with SO's applying to schools too. single people, be glad!

i really liked drexel and philly. the school seems chill, students seem happy, and they have a killer simulation lab building opening soon. philly was cool too...went to the art museum and hummed the rocky song (pretty lame but i wouldnt let myself leave philly without doing it), and center city was legit. not a bad place to spend a few years at all.

I was actually in the same boat about two months ago. except now they don't really like their current job, and would love to get out of chicago. and now my top three choices match where i have interviews thus far. hoping it works :xf:

yea, the people there are really chill. the art museum area is really really nice. good place to run and ****. if it wasn't for the recession we would have broke into being one of the best places to live.

my only knock on drexel is the amount of students from the BA/MD program. but you will see that with jefferson, and a bit with temple too. obviously its not a big deal, but it kind of makes a certain group of the class more one dimensional (maybe not true either)

you are obviously getting an exceptional hospital system, that is privately sponsored. philly is a big pharma city (w/ gsk merck and J&J/baxter/rosche in jersey) and those opportunities are plentiful as well.

Hahnemman is a top class hospital in one of (if not) the healthcare capital on the US. I remember when we moved to philly it was def the big name (along with temple too, i think the demise of ct surgery kinda took away from that school b/c penn had the better tech). And unlike the other schools, its in a pretty unique location, its not near the campus or whatever and its at the heart of philadelphia (along with jefferson). well jefferson's med school is in center city, i think drexel is in wynnewood.

and if you want to stay in the tri-state after med school, its a great place as well. penn/drexel/jeff/temple/einstein (the philly one) share its students so def a leg up on that if you want to just live here - and philly is a great place to live.

Yeah, I have a girlfriend of around 2.5 years but honestly (sorry if this is mean) I haven't factored in our relationship into my decision about the school I may attend. I'm not going to let my relationship hinder me from going where I really want to go and she clearly knows this.
 
yea i had a friend couple years older than me who had to decide between hopkins and umdnj and another one between mich and umdnj to stay close to their girlfriends or not. both chose the non-jersey school. i think they just wanted some new tail because jersey is so much better than ann arbor or baltimore, real talk
 
I got a invite at Drexel. I have 4 invites so far. I dont know if I should go to my Drexel interview. i dont know a lot about the school, i only applied because it was in philly.

in other news, i just signed up for my free trial of blockbuster online. does anyone have any movies they suggest I rent?? (Im a fan of cult classics.. donnie darko, fight club, american beauty/psycho, etc.... or independent films)

ya I'm having the same situation with drexel-it doesn't seem like it has the best reputation, but if i don't have an acceptance before than I'll definitely go. I should have heard back from at least 3 schools by then though so I'm hoping I won't have to but we'll see. Anyone else hear anything good/bad about the school?

I don't. I'm far too much of a fan of flirting at this point in my life. I was dating someone when they were applying to med school, and it sucked. Single is the way to be right now.

I don't want to go to my UK interview. It's like 2.5 hours away but I don't have a car. I need opinions on how to get there besides walking.

Yeah I saw memento. It was decent. I actually saw it in my Intro to Psychology course.

I don't have a gf either and if I did, I wouldn't factor her in unless she was really really really dapper. Note the reallys
