Several of my friends were like :scared: after theirs here....because of the group interview. I guess it is good then that I've had 6 interviews worth of practice 😀

btw....does anyone else think it is really strange that I haven't been asked a single "ethical dilemma" question so far?
 
Finished with the Vandy secondary! Woohoo! My interview is at the beginning of January!

i think so too, the specifics are obviously dramatized, but as far as the doctor's responsibilities and the patients' actions they're pretty realistic. house(home invasion like every other episode?) and grey's anatomy(fake a heart attack to get ahead on transplant list?) are pretty unrealistic

Yea, group interviews would kind of scare me. Good thing I didn't have any in my cycle.

Nah, not too strange. Only 1 school asked me an ethical question/dilemma out of the places that I have been to this cycle.
 
the thing about ethical dilemma questions are that if they come, they come in groups. it depends on the interviewer and they aren't all that common but if the interviewer decides to ask at all he goes on for like 4 to 6 questions

ah gotcha. I am not really concerned about being asked...just curious about why I haven't been. When I was going through the Composite Letter process my letter writer asked me a whole bunch...I'd like to think that I stood my ground quite well 🙂

Yeah I was a little skeptical about the group interview at first, but it's actually kind of nice because you have time to think of your response while other people are giving their answers (and if you go first, you don't have to worry about coming up with something that doesn't repeat a previous answer).

Although...in my group interview, one of the other interviewees tried to "one-up" the other interviewee in her answer and it came off pretty bad. So I'd say try not to do that 😛

And I've only been asked an ethical question once so far (and that was from a school that, according to the interview feedback on this site, always asks ethical questions). ... or maybe they just think you're a really ethical person and don't need to ask you questions.

I don't do that myself but I have the biggest "ughhhhhhhh *roll my eyes*" moment whenever people do that...like what is the point.

Yeah I guess some people are just oblivious, though. The interviewers were sort of like :lame: and 🙄 in response to her, though, so that was good to see

speaking of interviews, did you ever employ that "turn the table" technique the duke student taught you in any of your interviews?
 
I keep wanting an Emory interview, but their style scares me.

I have no problems having a panel of interviewers, but I would not want to interview with other people - I have a little bit of an inferiority complex when it comes to interviews at those kind of schools. :laugh:

I hope you get one. My experience here is that everyone goes out of their way to help you in any possible way. Could not have chosen a better place for undergrad if I tried!

YES. I feel accomplished for just finishing it lol, and the secondary turned out to be a great way to procrastinate studying for finals!

Basing a matchup on earnings potential = politics.

When big sports games don't pick opponents based on the most exciting, most intriguing matchups, it's a sign that there's something else in play.

And based on the BCS' history, I'm going to say that's the Big Six influence in making sure that there's no reason for anyone to say 'Well, Boise. St/TCU showed they were good enough to beat a Big Six team, so clearly the BCS is flawed.'

Obviously, there's already plenty of evidence, but they'll still gladly take the opportunity to stop any more from presenting itself.

It's not really politics, it's business. The Fiesta Bowl isn't there to cater to Boise St. or TCU fans, it's there to drum up profit for Tostitos and the other shareholders, as well as whichever TV station owns its rights, the host city, etc. If the idea was to make the most intriguing matchups, we'd have a playoff.

If we're referring to ethical dilemma situational questions - I've never been asked one.

I was asked to describe a situation where I was in a dilemma and what I did.

Also never been directly asked about healthcare policy, thank God. But Vandy interviewer rambled about it a lot and never gave me the opportunity to speak.

Final in less than 6 hours... 😱

Umm...duh?

As I said, when profits control sports, that's a political move. The Big Six conferences want the lucrative contracts, Tostitos wants the exposure, and the small conferences get the shaft. That's the very definition of a political move. It just happens that it's university politics, not governmental level. Corporations controlling sports still results in a ****ty enterprise.

EDIT: I guess if it still isn't clear, I should define what I mean by politics. In my mind, anytime where an entity is more concerned with its own good than the greater good of the idea which it serves, the situation becomes ripe for political maneuvering. Here, the Big Six conferences saw a situation where they could take advantage of the system (or force in their own system) and reap the profits. Now that they are in a position of power, even more than they were before, they are making sure they stay there.

Just because somebody pursues profit in a capitalistic economy doesn't mean it can automatically be passed off as 'business' and excused. Sports commissioners and others are SO surprised when they hear about corruption within their systems, while they themselves are solely concerned with how they can stamp their authority on a league (see: David Stern) and make the most money for the owners. The quality of the product (see: NBA rules changes this decade) and fan satisfaction is forgotten. That's what's happened with the BCS.

Politics is not restricted to someone who's actually trying to win election or something. There are plenty of forms of politics. This is just one of its incarnations. In the end, everyone plays politics in their life, whether it's buttering up a boss for a raise or creating a system that funnels profits into big universities for personal gain.

haha i totally understand! when i was at dartmouth, all the other interviewees were talking about their interviews at harvard, hopkins, wash u, etc...i was definitely intimidated and wondered why they invited me compared to all those other applicants!!
