Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You could buy a sick porsche with $250k. Or a solid starter home with $250k. Or like 230k McChickens from McDonalds after taxes.

You could buy about 3 sick Porsches with 250k. Around my area, you could buy about 2 houses, and the McChickens would be spicy.

That was a nice unwinding mini-nap. Now it's time to work. 🙁

looks like brandon roy is out for the playoffs (barring some miracle) with a torn meniscus

that whole organization is just bad luck

Yeah, but a used Carrera GT > 3 boxters.

I wish we had spicy McChickens and I hope that the :luck: shakes are still around.

You can get 2 houses like that, but we want to be doctors and a Physician's starter home should look something like this IMO:

Keep in mind this is a starter home.

Edit, the pic was way too big.

person w/ the handle Project Runway, please post. LOVE me some tim gunn. "make it work"

I'm still at an absolute shock that I will have to take out 250k+ in loans if I do a MD program

+1. it actually kind of helps me feel better to calculate my loan repayment though and see that it's possible. i mean even if i'm 300k in debt, if i pay 4000/month for 8 years after residency it'll all be gone. as long as salaries don't decrease, if i make like 200k/year that's still over 70k to live on after taxes. and if i have a family to support i'd hope my future husband would be making a decent salary too.

i actually kind of had an epiphany today that if i get off waitlists i really want to go to georgetown, even though suny downstate/dartmouth would be cheaper. does that seem incredibly silly to you guys? i just loved it there and feel like location wise that's where i want to be. i was planning on sending a letter of intent to dartmouth, but now i feel like maybe i should wait and see how i feel in a couple weeks and if i still feel the same i'll send it to gtown instead.

also, totally a morning person here! as long as it's not too early-midnight to 8am is my perfect sleeping schedule🙂

I wonder if cali schools take a ton of OOS students though. I'm going going back back 2 cali cali.

some more than others. stanford doesn't give preference like the UCs. 80% of students at UCSD, though, are IS, i believe. maybe its a balancing act between giving enough preference to residents but also earning the income from the OOS who pay the tuition fees.

Say what you say
But give me that bomb beat from Dre
Let me serenade the streets of L.A.
From Oakland to Sacktown
The Bay Area and back down
Cali is where they put they mack down
Give me love!

Well there's another reason why I didn't fill out their secondary.

i think i was delusional and hoping that they would magically find funds. they don't really help out IS students it seems. at least thats what i gather from the materials oregon sent me.

yikes

although i do hear that it has a gorgeous campus

gorgeous doesn't begin to describe it.

view from the aerial tram. that would be mt. hood in the background. you can also see downtown portland from the tram (not pictured here). ohsu campus is on a giant hill. (jeez, i just made myself fall in love w/ ohsu all over again. i wish it was a more affordable option.)

That is a reference to me for sure.

I'm thinking I'll throw apps to UCLA and USC and Stanford if my MCAT permits me to do so without feeling like it would be a waste of money. I would love to put on a kobe bryant jersey.

😉

USC and Stanford both privates. USC = expensive. Not sure what their admission policy about OOS applicants is all about.

sorry, i didn't mean to make you sad about it. but yeah, portland looks pretty amazing

err -- i mean, it looks awful and i can't believe that you even considered going there!

If I get an interview to any of those schools I'm replacing a button up with a kobe jersey under my suit and just wearing a matching tie with it.

Nope, not to me. Plus, you seem like you're paying a lot almost no matter where you go.

If I was somehow magically accepted to both Baylor and Vanderbilt, I would probably choose Vanderbilt even though it's a good bit more expensive. But I've already given up on them, so it's not happening.

suny downstate is deceptive. living in brooklyn is like living in san fran. not quite boutique soho prices but still extremely pricey. in fact, i think housing has to cost more for downstate than all the other manhattan schools since they are subsidized

haha its alright. its like out of sight out of mind. i forgot how much i liked the environment and school since my interview was last year. even more excited for 2nd looks now! rekindling my love for certain schools.

LOL do it!! or even put it underneath your button up like superman.

looks like cost of attendance at miller will be around 65K. it seems like a high estimate

things i'm doing to cut down on my expenses:

1. putting all my medical supplies/instruments/books on my dads grant (sorry mr and mrs tax-payer)
2. cutting out med schools insurance??
3. trying to find a rich ass roommate that pays for everything

sounds like you need a suga mommy

idk, a lot of my undergrad friends go to downstate. i can't see people paying under a grand a month near there, even with roommates. NYC neighborhoods are extremely pricey, no matter where it is.

weird, i crashed in my cousin's friend's apt in brooklyn when i interviewed there, and the place was like 1400 for 4 rooms on the second floor.

I would do that and just use my parent's, but in order to get in state tuition in Ohio you have to be completely financially independent.

that sounds sick, u sure that wasn't 1400 per person.

i think i'm including parking, which can easily be $200-$400 a month

cool, thanks for the reassurance🙂 don't give up hope yet, it could still happen!!

brooklyn-that's totally true about living costs. even though it's a state school, cost of living is ridiculously expensive at downstate so it doesn't end up being that cheap in the end. hanover seems pretty cheap, i just can't decide if living there for 4 years is worth it. dartmouth is an awesome school, but i really want to live in a city since i've never done it and feel like med school's the perfect time. not that i even have this choice since i haven't been accepted to any of these schools, i guess i'm just putting way too much thought in to where i'll send a letter of intent. who knows if it'll even make a difference anyways😛
