i haven't been on-on sdn in a while, but it seems different...like some threads don't load all the way for me and i need to refresh a lot 😕

what does one do during a two week orientation, by the way? i feel like i am going to be very introduced to the profession by the end of august

SDN has been kind of messed up since the day it was down all day.

2 week orientation? That sounds kind of excessive. Do both programs have 2 week orientation or are y'all just special?
 
i think we all get 2 weeks haha! they gave us the schedule for the first two days but not a peep more...

Damn 2 weeks! One can only sit through so many ppt presentations.

I know the dates of my classes (when things start and end) but I can't seem to find the actual times during the day things are scheduled. Then again, I'm not looking very hard. I want to know when I can fit in my afternoon nap damnit!
 
i'm not sure if the whole 2 weeks is strictly orientation...it's called "introduction to the profession." i think it will be highly touchy-feely, given our summer homework assignments 😎
 
i heard people just go out a lot and meet their classmates during orientation. im not really concerned about mine except for coming into lab during my free time.

nah i love my lab here. cant see a better lab in the world for me to be in. people are cool. culture is different. they love their indie music to a very pretentious level. i've mostly been going to some undergrad bars (and im too old for that lame ****) but some of the other/older areas are nice

that's tight... to be honest, the music really makes a big difference in your lab experience. i got lucky in my lab... i don't control the sticks usually but the grad students have decent taste

yea the ugrad scene just doesn't do it for me anymore either. and yea the snow will def get you thinkin about Miami.

are you formin any sports allegiances up there?
 
why 12,000? and i'll be optimistic and say yea. i bet i start getting on here more while i study. and we always can count on the regulars

yup, he came at 12:30 (1.5 hours late) and it took him sooo long to set it up because the stupid comcast people cancelled my account and it wasn't in the system so he was on the phone with his customer service people trying to set it back up. he didn't finally leave til 4:30!!


haha that's not true!!! i've just been wearing shorts and t-shirts. i suppose the shorts show most of my legs but it's 95 degrees out, i'm not gonna walk around in long pants and a sweater!😛



tried out my 3 mile bike ride to campus today, definitely a good workout! even if i don't have time for the gym, i figure i'll be getting some kind of physical activity in most days🙂 a lot of the route is fairly flat but there's a couple killer hills i'll have to get used to!
 
well im renting from a huuuuuge company. they have individual "managers" on apartment. they are just in charge of shoveling snow and keeping us happy and ****. when i signed my lease he said i pay directly at the company headquarter office by check. yesterday he texted me saying "because of bad personal checks" i need to bring him a money order for deposit and 1st month's. i already paid the deposit when i applied to the place via personal check, and they already cashed that **** so they obviously don't have a problem. also, many others here are renting from them and none of their managers have asked them that (they just give the check to the office and get a receipt for it)

I honestly wouldn't call them assignments. We had to send in suggestions for a class code of ethics as well as some sort of drawing or writing that showed our anticipation regarding the clinical human anatomy class (working with cadavers). There's a big emphasis on arts in medicine here...I like it, but some may not.

We also had about 6 books we were supposed to read. One of which we will be quizzed on during orientation (though not for a grade...wtf).
 
world series will go through philadelphia this year. rest of the NL should just bend over, take it and like what they are getting
 
Installed my brand new 24" monitor at lab, this thing makes my previous 17" monitor look like my iPhone... so nice...

I figured whoever won the Oswalt battle (StL or Phi) would win, so the question is answered now. Just hope the Phillies don't become the Braves of the 90's - always making the big dance but only winning once.
 
Any details on his deal?

The world series would already have been going through Philly if they weren't *****s with the Cliff Lee situation.
 
So they are paying him 11 mill... I think they could have had Lee for 9 this year right?

If they don't make the playoffs heads will roll

That code of ethics thing was the single most annoying thing I've done in med school. Talk about ppl bi*ching over minutae. The 2013 class broke theirs like 3 days after they signed it too haha.

Yeah. Assuming they're giving up the same they would have given up for Lee, they should have gone for it back then. Lee's a year younger than Oswalt, and his ERA was more than 1.00 lower than Oswalt's if you compare them at the time each was traded. But, a little more time may have been the convincing they needed.

I could only imagine what would go down if they missed the playoffs. :laugh:

Those riots in Philly after the WS win would be nothing compared to what would go down...
 
Have you guys and gals ever watched 1,000 ways to die?

I've heard of it a bunch but am watching it for the first time now... It's insane.
 
we have been playing w/o utley (best 2b in the nl), rollins (former mvp), werth, ibanez, victorino, lidge, madson, blanton for the 1st half. we are only 3.5 back of the division 2.5 off the wild card. last 3 years we are significantly better in the 2nd half of the season. now we have the #1 attendance in the league, #3 in viewership after the yankees and mets, climbing past boston soon in payroll, so we had to make a move. dominic brown just got called up to play while victorino is out and that kid is a stud x 3. 2/3 with 2rbis in his first game. its gonna be a great summer
 
amaro admits they should have kept lee, so he traded for roy. astros are paying 50% of oz' contract anyway plus he waived his option.

Btw, dingy visited and we played bananagrams. I kicked his ass three times...we only played three times. I don't even think he peeled until the second game!
 
I'm not sure which (NFL vs. college) I'm more excited for. I'd choose based on which of my teams would do better, but neither the Lions or Michigan are looking promising:laugh:.
