If you're as excited/nervous/anxious/relieved about the upcoming application cycle as I am join me in this thread. We'll make this the spot for upcoming application cycle questions and discussions.

Good luck to everyone as the cycle is just around the corner!

Class of 2015 D.O. !!!

yes! This is what I'm talking about! time to meet more potential DOs out there

I am applying this upcoming cycle! I am extremely nervous, but also excited at the possibilities.

I am taking Physics and the MCAT this summer, and the I am a little worried about my stats (upward trend in sciences, cGPA 3.4) so hopefully all will work out. What are your top choices so far? It would be great to talk to anyone going through the same process. :xf:

I think PCOM and VCOM are probably my top two choices at this point. I think I'm going to apply to 12-15 schools as soon as possible in the cycle.

I'm going to also be applying for DO, there are some good schools around me

I'm so scared about applying for this cycle. My personal statement is still blank, haha, and I have to turn one in for my prehealth committee by early april. but they did mention to disclose briefly some things that may be weak in your application ( i did pretty bad my junior fall semester but picking up my grades this spring ) think its a good idea to mention? bc i was a transfer student, new school, i don't think its an excuse.

I love lecom, I would die to go there. NYCOM, VCOM, PCOM, etc are my top choices too. Taking the MCAT may, I call it the day I'm going to die basically =)

I wish everybody good luck!!

same these 2 are my top choices for DO
and Uni of Maryland (instate) and Uni of Vermont are my top MD choices😱

good luck to all!👍

Super excited as well!!!

Love Western but don't know if that's realistic given my scores, I guess we'll see soon enough 🙂

Btw, does anyone if we can use two science faculty letters in the place of a committee letter (PCOM) ? My guess was no but just thought I'd ask.

Good luck!

They'll take an academic advisor or a dean's letter as replacement. I'm going with my academic advisor.

people considering osteo are so much more chill and laidback than pre-allo people.

PCOM, LECOM, NYCOM, CCOM are what I'm looking at right now.

Hopefully things work out for all of us!

does anyone have a good reliable updated list of DO schools that contains min GPA, avg applicant stats etc??

Awesome! Thanks for the info Msb!

That just made my day because I'll actually have a dean's letter, yay! 🙂

Wow, next application cycle up already? I feel so old! 😛

haha. I'm just really ready to get this over with. I wanted to apply last cycle but it made a lot more sense for me to wait a year.

I will be applying as well. I had applied MD only in 2008 with no luck. Was real late in the game and not that competitive to begin with. Reason I did MD only, was i had 6 MD schools in state, but only 1 DO school. Bad decision on my part.

I'm still trying to figure out which DO schools I like best. Right now I'm thinking OU, MSU, and PCOM.

I'm going to follow along but I'm not applying until the following cycle. 🙂

I'm applying to all of those as well 😀.
I'm really excited for this cycle and hoping to have some acceptances by this time next year! 👍😎

a la Superbad......

Seriously though, good luck to everyone in the cycle. I can't believe its finally here, I've been waiting to apply since 2008!!

Looking at NYCOM, TOURO-NY, UMDNJ-SOM, PCOM(Philly/Georgia) LECOM B and NSU!!

Those are top notch!

Hard to get into, I know...

I'm probably applying to LECOM-B and NOVA, but I don't know much about the locations of other schools, etc... I know a lot of people like PCOM, for example, what is it about PCOM that's really good? I just want to have more options, but I can't seem to find anything on them (that describes more than what was on the pdf)

This will be my first application cycle for aacomas (hopefully my only one). Good luck to everyone and may the best men/women be victorious🙂🙂

Applying this cycle too!!! (obviously) Taking the MCAT April 17th and am so nervous. I am a senior, skipped last years application cycle to prepare and take about every bio course at St. Louis University. ATSU-KCOM is my first choice and came highly recommended to me from a professor. Anyone else looking at ATSU-KCOM?

I'm applying too; I'm feeling a mixture of fear, apprehension, and excitement.
Sitting for the MCAT on May 1st... kind of late, but I wanted as much time as possible to study.

Remember, applying early and broadly is KEY.
:xf: Good luck everybody! :xf:

Thats not late at all!

Thanks! I'm getting excited. Does anyone know the date for the the primary app to open up?

I think last year it was May 1st, so until I hear otherwise I'm going to assume the same.

Good luck to everyone that will be applying this cycle! The osteopathic way of medical practice is such an awesome approach, I can't wait to get into school.

Does anybody have any advice on starting your personal statement? I have a few ideas floating in my head but am not sure where I want to take it yet.

Hey! I've been lurking around here and now it's finally my time to shine! Really excited! Hopefully I can place a c/o 2015 in my signature by Feb. 2011.

Wow, I so didn't think I would be part of this cycle but due to resent changes lately I have decided to push foward faster than anticipated. The original plan was to take orgo next year and take my MCATs next year but insanely I have decided to take orgo 1 summer A and orgo summer B and sit my MCATs Sept 3rd.

I am an 'old' non traditional student. I will be 41 at the start of this. I am trying to figure out exactly how we are going to live loosing my salary.

I will be applying to LECOM-B and NOVA only.

I am excited about medical school. It does make me sad not to deliver babies for a while and all the patients I will leave behind for awhile.

So good luck to all of you all and it will be fun to follow each others progress.

Im applying as well for this coming cycle...took the MCAT in January and waiting on scores (5 days)

I live in Ft. Lauderdale so naturally im all about NOVA, ESPECIALLY love their forensic medicine fellowship 🙂

I was going to take orgo this summer too but an advisor recommended biochem instead (said a different upper division course looks better)....what do you guys think?

Take orgo. The summer time will force you to commit to the matieral since it's so much in such a short time.

If apps open in May, would it be a little late to apply mid-June?

I'm not sure if I should apply right when it opens, or to wait for my spring semester grades to come out

Guess I'll chime in as well. Hoping to stay around the NW but am really excited about LMU as well (have extended family throughout Tennessee).

CCOM, KCOM, KCUMB, LECOM or OUCOM are top tier for me but I'd be happy anywhere really.

Mid-June is still very early.

Hmm, I'm going to apply to Western (1st choice), CCOM, PCOM, and NYCOM..Please please please please let me get into med school..keep my finger crossed..

Western is my #1 as well...awesome school, great staff, and friendly students...I love it there

In HS I did 3 years of volunteering at a hospital, should I include this?
Is it "irrelevant" since it's before college? My reason for wanting to include this is so I can show adcom that my interest in medicine is something I've explored for quite some time now (it's not something that came to me on a whim).

BUT if you guys think it's irrelevant, I probably won't include it.

In case you were curious- I quit volunteering because I was accepted into a summer prep program where they didn't let us have any outside commitments.

Thanks!

Hi Everyone,
Good Luck to everyone applying and hopefully most of us will make it through so we dont ever have to repeat this experience ever again. LOL.
I was wondering if anyone knew good D.O schools in particular if I wanted to specialize in peds. Or if there is a list or what you consider the top five D.O schools to be.
I am super nervous, excited, and bascially every emotion you can think of when it comes to this process. I am taking the MCAT May 27 and plan to apply by mid-June.
Also, how many schools are enough?
Thanks.

I'll be applying as well. I am terrified and outrageoulsy excited, as I suspect most of us are. I'm looking at Lecom erie or OU, both of which are only a few hours from home. In all honesty, however, I would be thrilled for an acceptance from just about anywhere.

I've got fairly good grades (3.3c, 3.35s, with the A's in upper level courses and B's in the lower leves... and expecting a 3.8ish semester), but I'm aware the Mcat will be my make it or break it...

Good luck to the rest of you!

Good luck everyone! I'm going to ATSU SOMA this "fall" (we start a little earlier than fall)! Trust me it feels good to be done with the process! It was a LONG process but it was definitely worth every second. Keep with it..it will pay off eventually!

Just a little advice I wish that I had this time last year...

Just remember when applying to schools that submitting primaries is expensive. I would recommend looking into schools really well BEFORE you submit primaries. Apply to only the schools you are serious about/have a shot at getting into. I applied to 10 schools ($455) and got secondaries back from all of them (as most people do) and only ended up sending secondaries back to 3 of those..all of which i got interviews at. I decided not to waste time sending in 10 secondaries because even if I got interviews at all of them I wouldn't pay for a plane ticket to go to each interview/miss that much school. Plus secondaries cost between $50-$200 per school extra. It isn't cheap! So Unless you are rolling in it, I'd recommend researching before you over-apply. I think that would have been the best advice that someone could have given me this time last year.

Also, before you fill out secondaries or go on interviews do some research about the individual schools. Know how they organize classes (PBL, Traditional, Systems, etc) and what makes them different from other DO schools. They will be impressed if you put the time and effort into understanding what they are all about. Most schools will ask you specifically why you are interested in their school..make sure you have something to say.

O, and if you haven't started on your personal statement do that asap...that was the hardest part about primaries for me...it took forever and it is hard to write about yourself.

Good luck, again!
