Class of 2015... How ya doing?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Last year for ICVM 2 a professor submitted questions that were actually for 2nd yrs haha Imagine showing up to a final and seeing questions you had NO FREAKING CLUE about. The professor who did this was not present during the final so there was no announcement about the mistake until later that day when we received an email about it

Had another awesome wetlab tonight! This one was for surgery club. We were divided into groups of 5 and each group got a cadaver dog. The advisor went around with a black Sharpie and on each dog drew a different shape in a different location. We had to excise the shape that was drawn and then, using information from some documents we were sent earlier, come up with three different plans that could be used to reconstruct the area. Some groups had to do skin grafts, others could do primary closures, and others had to use tension releasing incisions. My group had a large circular defect on the right lateral thorax and we used an H-plasty to repair it. It was really, really cool, especially getting to work on a specimen that wasn't fixed like our anatomy cadavers are. We learned basic suture techniques and at the end we all walked around to each table and the groups discussed the approaches they took to the different defects. It was awesome to get out of the classroom for a little while and it was fun to use some anatomy knowledge.

Anyway, here at Ohio State we have three more days of class and then finals next week Monday through Thursday. I already feel a headache coming on; I'm a little behind so there will definitely be some cramming going on all the way through the end of next week. Just gotta keep trucking along-good luck to everyone with finals coming up!!

Preparation for all my other finals is going well. But I feel kind of ill when I think about anatomy! I just want to pass!:scared:

I had the same feeling when it came to anatomy. I just couldn't get the material for the last practical no matter how much time I spent in front of that damn cadaver. I cried before and after the exam and almost cried during it when one of the TAs came over to check on me. I ended up passing the class, but I wouldn't check my grade until after my hell week was over because I was so worried it was going to suck and I was going to be distracted from my studying.

I'm having a lot of trouble getting motivated to learn neurology. Most of the lectures have not been very interesting. I'm much more inclined to study parasitology but the exam in that class is later and not worth as much as far as credits for the semester. 🙁

We still have 2 more weeks. One "final" next week, and the rest are the week after.

Then we get a whopping two weeks off. At least it's something!

Geez, from reading all of these, I feel like we're getting screwed. We get out on the 20th and start back on the 3rd. It's 2 weeks I guess, but I'm super jealous of those of you who are out now or relatively soon or get a longer vacation. Maybe we get out earlier in the summer? I don't know. We go through the first week of May.

All I know is, I am going to make the most of the few breaks I have left before the real world gobbles me up.

That does suck we are done thursday and then come back the second week in January. It will be almost a whole month off. I think I'll just sleep and wake up for Christmas and New Year's Eve.

We finished classes today, but exams don't end until Dec 16. We're also back Jan 3, so only a few more days than you. Classes next semester end Apr 13 and exams next semester end Apr 27.

Well. We end classes in July and begin in August.

So I feel bad about all of our breaks. 😉

wow. um i'm suddenly even more grateful for all the time off i get! 5 weeks between fall and spring and 3 months between spring and fall. (no spring, fall, or thanksgiving break here though)

Here at OSU CVM we just finished our last day of classes today (well, seeing as it's past midnight, yesterday I guess!). Our radiology final is take-home; we have until Thursday night to finish it but I think I'm going to get it done now so it's out of the way and I can focus. I spent all day studying at my friend's house so I think I should be able to bust it out alright. Our professional development class didn't have a final, so after I do my radiology tonight I have anatomy Monday, cell bio Tuesday, histo Wednesday, and epidemiology and animal behavior on Thursday. Then Friday and Saturday mornings I'm working the tours and student panels for interviews and then Saturday afternoon I'll head home for three wonderful, relaxing, school free weeks 😍

It has been ages since I have been on SDN, but I wanted to check up and see how everyone was doing! Seems like we are all in a love-hate relationship with our first year at vet school. Over here, across the pond, we just finished up three grueling days of exams. Virology, Bacteriology, Parasitology, Inflammation, Immunology and a wee bit of Pathology (more like an intro to it). My brain, well, hurts. But it is so nice to be done now for Christmas! Though we still have 2 weeks of classes before break and all, it feels so wonderful to just relax.
Cheers to everyone who has finished exams, and good luck to all those still taking them!

Honestly, I wish our exams were every day. I know that I'll use the days between to study but (in my opinion) it's better to just get it over with and go home. Have fun with the applicants EllieG!

COME ON 2015!!!! Ya'll are in the home stretch now (You made it through the 1st half of 1st year😎). I'm so proud to watch your progress, growth and procrastination. Keep trucking!!👍 I send all of the love that I can spare to you all in this stretch til Christmas!!!

haha, i wonder what the questions were now and if we'd now be able to answer them as a Big Bad Second Year?? that was pretty funny.

I'm pretty burnt out with this semester. We have a neurology midterm on Monday and I'm sooo behind for it but I find myself looking up Christmas cookies and planning next weekend when my boyfriend will be here visiting. We have 4 major exams between now and break, 2 midterms and 2 finals but the way the classes are laid out it's basically like 4 finals. After our hell week when we finished all of the classes we were in before Thanksgiving my mind thinks it's winter break. Throwing these extra classes as us right before winter break is not going well for me. Neurology in 4 weeks? Insane!

I know everyone has been complaining about it...but I really really really want a longer winter break! I'd stay an extra week in May to just have 1 more week of winter break. What will amount to about 12 days of actual break is not enough of a break from this semester!

Oh and to add to it all dieting is not helping my mood! 😡

Must remember to breathe.

Anatomy exam on Mon/Tue. The last exam almost drove me to a nervous breakdown. I only spent six hours in lab today. Meant to spend ten, but forgot to bring my WaWa money, so eventually the hypoglycemia drove me home. Have so much crap to figure out tomorrow. Must remember to breathe.

You can do it!!! Remember you've still got one more exam. This one will be a bit trickier than the first bc they will make you look at things in ways you haven't looked at before but just remember basic anatomy (would the kidney or ovary be here?, is this a testicle or an ovary? Where's the question about the stay apparatus/guttural pouch/big topics etc) stay calm and you'll do fine. I know it.

Good luck!!

I love the professor fails! We had 2 major ones first year. Radiology exam got posted on the T drive which is accessible to students, and a student found it the night before. To make it fair, it became an open book exam! Then we had a biology of disease (pretty much pathophys) for which we took the exam and got our grades back. Some student complained about grading, and when the prof went to go change his/her grade, the prof accidentally deleted records of EVERYONE'S test scores on the system. Since it was an electronically taken exam, he had no records of it anywhere. Therefore, we all got 100%. Which made it practically impossible for anyone to fail the class (all that really matters because we're on the class rank system, aside from it sucking for the people who did really well to begin with).

T-2 hours till my anatomy final. :scared: Ughhhh. Not nearly as ready as I should be.

You've got it! There's more in your head than you know - go in there and make us 2015'ers proud! 🙂

Now that my histo final is finished ....

..... Histo, we're just not meant for each other. It's not you, it's me. I'd love to stay friends, ya know, but I think it's time we moved on and started seeing other people.

Or in other words, I hate your guts and never want to see you again.

Anatomy went pretty decent! A lot of people in my class agreed that the practical portion was quite a bit trickier than the practicals on our previous two tests, but I did alright on it. I don't know how I did on the written portion yet, but there were a few questions I really wasn't sure about...but when I went back to my notes after the exam I realized I made some pretty darn good guesses. So I'm thinking I may have done better than I thought? Who knows.

Today was cell bio, and I was FREAKING out. I only needed a 33% on the final to pass the class, and while obviously I'd like to do better than just passing I was so afraid I would really screw up. There was just so much material and so many enormous words and so many pathways and gahhhhh! But I actually ended up doing really well, so I'm super excited about that. I'm really sad to not have the main teacher in that class anymore. He's really funny and just totally awesome. On his exams, a couple of the multiple choice questions always have one completely off the wall and hilarious option that helps to dissipate the tension a little.

Histology is tomorrow, and the excitement of doing well on Cell Bio is slowly giving way to the terror of histo. This final is 50% of our grade and I've not kept up on it super well. Oh well; just gotta get it done! After tomorrow I'll just have Epidemiology and Animal Behavior exams on Thursday and then I'll be DONE with winter quarter!! Unfortunately though, unlike LIS, we have another entire quarter of histo. Booo =(

Wikipedia tells me that organology is the study of the classification of musical instruments.

I briefly found my motivation today. Immunology exam tomorrow. Unfortunately, my motivation and I only saw each other in passing for a few hours, and I don't care anymore. I'm a bad mood, and it's raining out and all I really want to do is curl up in bed and watch TV and eat junk food. 🙁

You'll find this so hilarious. ICVM 2 no longer has a final--it is pass/fail. Oh btw-- rememer Bale is taking over neuro now. ya--- so much jealousy/rage for V15 haha

Oh. Organology.

We have a whole semester of histo + an extra eight week block in the spring.

😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

Though we finished histology the class way early in the semester. We have a histology portion to pretty much every class (endocrinology, embryology, parasitology, etc). It's never over!

Y'all are funny. That's what I love about SDN. Well. One thing.

CVM 6112 - Organology

"Microscopic/ultrastructural morphology of organ systems (cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, respiratory, urinary, endocrine) in mammalian domestic species."

Hmm sounds like histo. Also repeated this in Pathology. Oh well, repetition helps it stick in my brain

In the curriculum my class is under at UCDavis, we did these things in their respective courses (all of those were anatomy + physiology combined). Of course in the new curriculum EVERYTHING is integrated so they also do them in the respective blocks.

I...really enjoyed histo. Or as we call it "Micro Anatomy."
