Class of 2015... How ya doing?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just resist the urge to throw your pencil at him at the end of it. And learn osmosis. I figured I knew it, and apparently, I didn't, and there seemed to be a stupid amount of questions on it. 👎

Mediocre. I'm tired of being it. Can I just excel at SOMETHING?

Classes start tomorrow..... freedom ends...... I am looking forward to it, but dreading the extra work.....

2nd year here I come!

so purdue, we sent back your virologist (good luck) and now we have one from illinois. he managed to break all of our technology in under 5 mins today 😕

Had to leave class this morning I felt so sh*tty (sick already🙁)
Having serious existential doubts about this life I have chosen.

I think many of us feel this way. I'm so tired. I'm so behind on path and I don't even want to think about parasit. I have Wards at 6:30 tomorrow morning. My apartment is a mess. And we're only 2ish weeks in!!!!!!! :lame:

Thanks! My suggestion is don't host a part the same day you have morning wards like I did. You will pay for it down the road🙂

i'm starting to think that if you don't feel this way in 2nd year, then something's wrong :-/ i definitely currently hate myself, my life, and this evil being called "school" :meanie: ughhhhh clin path and pharm please dont kill me this week 🙁

So us Penn people are gearing up for our first exam this Wednesday. It's pathology and I'm terrified. I hear SOV is celebrating our impending doom by spending his ENTIRE SUNDAY out at New Bolton. Whether he wanted to or not!

Yeah. I'm a bit behind though.

oh yeah, i caught up in path this weekend, but everything else i'm a week behind in because last week was our hell week (5 exams in 7 days) and i really didnt care about future material, just surviving the current craziness!

our clin path prof is pretty dead set on making us as miserable as possible. its very confusing, he keeps telling us "oh its easy! this is stuff you already know! blah blah blah" and then picks the most random stuff ever to test on! grr

anyone in clinical pathology yet?

I am loving clin path. Our teacher is amazing and I learn so well from her. She makes class fun and is easy accessible if you have questions. Basically, I want her to be my best friend. Had our first test in that class on Friday - made a 96. Hells yeah bitches! First real A of vet school. It's amazing how different an A-/B+/B and an A feel

Awesome! I bet that feels amazing!

Virology is making me want to stab myself in the eye with a fork. We're three weeks in, and only now are we starting to even start to look at anything clinically relevant. Most of our profs are pretty good and tell us, "I'm not trying to make you histologists/bacteriologists/physiologists/anatomists, etc, I'm just trying to tell you what you need to know for practice." But viro? I swear he thinks he's teaching a group of virologists. There's so much stuff we cover that we'll probably never need again. Our Public Health prof will randomly asked if we've covered virus x yet, and we always have to say no, leading him to ask, "What exactly are you learning in virology??"

ASDLKHAIUFSJ YES. I'm enjoying second year so much more so far compared to first, but virology is the one class I just can't even take. If his sample questions in class are examples for the real exam, I think we'll all survive but seriously, what is all this extraneous crap that seems to fill our lectures?!

Very glad to hear this for next year!:xf: 😀 And way to rock out a 96

You will love Wamsley! She is brilliant but the coolest person on the planet. Also, I go out with your big on a semi-regular basis and so far I haven't met you...don't be lame lol

Oh, I do love Pharmacology though. The two profs we have for it are just so awesome and they put in terms that make sense. One of them also teaches the third year Clinical Pharmacology so she's really good at putting everything in the frame of actual practice. Things just stick in my head better that way.

Special path exam at 6:30 tomorrow morning... Boo hiss.

6:30 AM????? What kind of hell are they trying to put you through??????? I have trouble getting up for class at 8am!

Officially my worst test of vet school too. Thanks, path!

We tried to get it moved, but with no luck. Our next one is at 6:30 am next Friday.

Wow, and I thought our 7:30 am virology midterm was bad. (Though, I'd like to point out that supposedly, my class voted to move it to 7:30. The options were 7:30 am or 3:30 pm. And people actually wanted 7:30. I voted 3:30. Somehow, I was in the minority.)

...what is wrong with them?!

so if you have these exams super early, do you then still have that class later in the day?? because thats cruel! our exams (except midterms/finals) are scheduled during class time and then midterms and finals get either morning or afternoon on their own separate days with no classes for a week

After our a.m. exam we had classes until 3pm and then I was on mandatory community practice clinic until 7pm. Really, they should let us go home early after 2 days of exams. 🙁

Midterms are scheduled during regular class time. So for virology, we usually have lecture at 8:30 on Tuesday mornings. But we need 2 hours for the midterm, hence the 7:30 start time. Then we have classes 9:30-12:30 and 1:30-3:30. 😴 Luckily, that's the only midterm we have like that, everything else is 8:30 or later. Final exams are scheduled during their own two week period after classes end.

Yes, we keep on lecturing the days we have tests. A couple of classes first year let us off on test days, but since we do blocks and take a given class for 8 weeks, and we typically have 2-3 tests per week, that would be a lot of lectures off.

😱 Wow.

Please tell me where I can go to school without grades.

I enjoy learning. Hate exams.

Dr. N****. you suck.

Same here! I really love what I'm learning but I'm not doing so great on tests at all. Gonna be a big problem when it comes to applying to vet school in a few years.

Actually, I would likely have voted 7:30, too. It's only a half hour before our normal start, and I *hate* late-in-the-day tests. I can't focus on any lectures beforehand, so I basically waste an entire day trying to pay attention but not really succeeding because my mind is 75% thinking about the exam coming up and blah blah blah.

So I *really* prefer to have tests first thing in the day.

Just me, I guess!

I'm the same way. I can do 7 or 7:30, but I will not vote for anything earlier than those lol.

8:30 is about my absolute limit for thinking. Realistically, I'm better after about 9:30. The kicker for me though is the hour less sleep. (And don't tell me to go to bed earlier, I can't. My body has a set time for sleeping, and it refuses to shut off before that. Even with medication, I feel off the rest of the day.)

I might die next week. Micro final, pharmacology exam with over 100 required drugs, and clin path exam.

I just want to point out that c/o of 2015 is lame!

c/o 2016 thread already has more than 50% more posts than us.

I am going to have to get y'all to be more talkative!

So to get the ball rolling, does anyone else feel like we deserve more than 1 week without any exams (ie free weekend)? I think we have ONE glorious weekend with no exams the following week! All of my friends are going home or traveling but I have a shift at new bolton so no trip for me...🙁y

I think we have ONE glorious weekend with no exams the following week!

You do? I feel like killing you.

I'm in the middle of a hell week. Bacteriology midterm Monday, Systemic Path exam today (which I think is going to turn out to have been the worst grade I've received on an exam so far), Derm exam tomorrow. Had Repro exam last Thursday, I think, and we have our neuropharm final next Tuesday. And parasit right after that. And oh yeah THAT one is going to be a joy.

I wanna kick vet school in the balls right now. I think today after the path exam was about the most down I've ever felt about vet school since I started it. Love vet med - hate vet school. At least coverall bar-crawl is this Friday.
