Class of 2015... How ya doing?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Our viro final was today. Our teacher sucked but the test was relatively easy. We were advised by upperclassmen to answer E if we didn't know the answer, it was sound advice.

We had a class earlier this semester where both tests were all T/F with greater than 85% of the answers being 'T'.

Other than being a bit of a mind-f***, it made me laugh because you could in theory not go to class, not read the material, not study, not memorize a single thing: sit down and answer 'T' for everything and get a B.

Clearly a prof who doesn't believe in exams!!

50% chance though that method would have only gotten you 15% on the exam though. Gotta choose to choose true not false.

If that makes you feel better...?

Virology done. So happy to be done with that course. A few things got me, but nothing that would majorly dent my grade. Luckily, lots of stuff on influenza. I freaking own influenza.

I feel like this year has been full of death in the vet school. Toward the beginning of the semester, the head of the pathology department unexpectedly passed away. Just a week ago, our endocrinology professor passed away. I hated his class last year for various reasons, but I understand now that he was having medical issues at the time so he was not himself. It only just occurred to me that my husband is on a rotation that likely brought him to know my professor as a patient, and that makes me sad because we haven't had time to sit down long enough to talk about the kinds of cases he's been seeing.

Anyway... two more weeks until winter break. It sounds like I'll be around for the majority of out of state interviews in January too, so hopefully I'll be able to meet up with some SDNers!

I saw the post the CVM posted on FB about the recent passing of a professor this week. Very sad. 🙁

Public heath done. That's 3 of 8. On to Pharm/Tox on Wednesday. And it's cumulative: autonomic nervous system drugs and toxicants, CNS drugs and toxicants, anesthetics, analgesics, anti-inflammatories, glucocorticoids, anti-histamines and just a smidge of chemotherapy as a garnish. :scared:

gross. what is it with pharmacology professors and cumulative exams?! ours is antimicrobials, eye, respiratory, CVS, GIT, chemo, anti-viral, antiprotozoal, ectoparasiticides, food safety, urogenital, thyroid, and insulin related. :barf: i cannot wait to be done with the pharm series in 4 days.

in other news, path = :boom: its a really, really bad sign when all the top students come out going 😕😕 :scared:

I actually like pharm. Our professor is FANTASTIC. I'm not so much into the tox side though. The mechanisms never seem to stick in my head. It doesn't help that I have a really hard time paying attention to the professor who does the tox lectures. 😳

We have path a week from today. My entire weekend will be path. This makes me happy.😀

So in public health we had two professors and one guest speaker who did a few lectures. Well, I completely forgot to look over the second professor's material😱 So that part of the final was basically just guessing- thank goodness it was MC and I didn't actually have to write a bunch of BS. Still, ugh.

Pharm wouldn't be so bad except there was a huge disparity in the challenge level of the two midterms. The first one was rainbows and butterflies and the second one was like getting hit by a truck. Not sure what to expect for the final:shrug:

I went to go look at the last midterm today. Overall, my mark was alright, but today I saw how it was split up. On the pharm part, I scored 26 points higher than on the tox part. I rock pharm. Tox can bite me. :scared:

I've been up since 4am this morning doing last minute studying for pharm. It's my last final so by 10-11am today I will be done!!! Feeling pretty good about it actually. I think i'm going to go clean my kitchen so that I don't accidentally fall asleep and miss my exam. That would just suck.

Our last day isn't until the 20th. The good news is that we actually get more than a week off this year! Yay

I've found that I'm a really good teacher for my friends, but holy crap I can't retain what I teach them! So frustrated with how the pharm exam went this morning. Can't wait for winter break....

Pharm/tox over with. Halfway done with exams! I have a severe dent in my finger from holding my pencil. So. Much. Writing. As expected, I flew through the Pharm section and then promptly hit a brick wall for Tox. It got better, and could have been worse, it depends on how much detail he wanted for the Tox questions. On to Bacteriology on Friday!

Our nutrtion and tox final was AWFUL. I did terribly on it. It was almost all essay questions and at one point, the paragraph that set up the question gave all of the information that I knew about the compound - so obviously I couldn't answer the questions. So I wrote the prof a letter instead. I talked about my study methods and how I chose what to study. I talked abut why I thought it was important to know about this compound and its effects and then I said "and I have no idea how to answer your questions because all I know was already presented in the history".....I got 50% of the points for that question

I'm pretty sure they were pity points and my final grade in the course was exemplary of what I deserved but it was nice for them to at least give an 'E' for effort, lol!

Hahaha, not bad at all!

We finish next Wednesday but I won't be able to go home until Friday morning👎. Already planning my burrito order for the Chipotle in Portland, ME😀

Bacteriology final in 12.5 hours and I have no attention span whatsoever. Thank gods I've already got the course passed, and this is only worth 35% of the grade for that class.

Mine is Monday. It's worth enough that I still need it to pass, and I'm not a great student so I need like a 42 to pass or something. Which is better than what I need in pharm to pass.

I think I can do it, but damnit, it sucks. All this stuff sucks. Blah. Grumble.

old version:

7 more hours and I'll be free
from this life of misery
no more pencils, no more books,
no more teachers dirty looks.

new version:

7 more hours and I'll be free
from this semester of misery
no more #2 pencils, no more power points.
no more lecturers droning on and on and on and on and on and on and on ,,,

I'm in my last class right now, learning about antiarrhythmic drugs... it's not much consolation with the week of exams coming up, but yanno. We had a quiz and it's kinda sucked. At least it was only 10 points...

Sigh. Here 'n I have two more weeks. Next week is pretty light, with just one gross path lab exam, but then it's finals week after that.

Grumble.

Well that sucked. I hate antibiotics. There's too many of them, and I couldn't remember any of them.

As a small bright spot, he had two bonus questions. One was a scenario that included blanks to fill in. It started something like, "It's another lovely summer in ___________..... ad you're enjoying your second coffee/tea/juice/beverage of choice." ..."You're shining your nametag which reads Dr. __________." There was a multiple choice question after that which was the actual question, but in hopes I get points for humour, I wrote "Middle Earth" for location and "Dr Baggins". And then scratched out all the beverages and wrote "second breakfast".

Yeah, same problem with the antibiotics for me👎

You were creative with yours. I wrote my first name + what my last name will be after getting married (since that'll be before I graduate) and then panicked and wrote him a note about how I'm getting married, etc so he wouldn't be like C- who?! 😀

For everyone who is still in class and doing finals. 😀

I figured if one prof could appreciate a joke, it'd be him.

Elevensies!

Finals week next week is kind of a bummer... But I just sent an email to an externship coordinator at a big specialty hospital near where my mom lives. One of my best friends just emailed the other day and already has an externship set up for the summer, so I'm hoping I can be so lucky. I've never experienced a practice with more than 2 vets, let alone one with specialists, so I'm hoping this pans out. What would be even better would be if the location nearest my mom would allow students for the summer, but seeing as they literally just opened this week, I'm not sure that's going to be possible... Either way, I've got my fingers crossed!

Aaaaand less than an hour later, I already had a response. I have a feeling he and I are going to get along 🙂

one more exam, one more exam! except i kinda feel like i'm already done, and the last exam is clin path. bah! professor has promised a very difficult exam because the others were "too easy" this term, the class average is too high, and hes a poo face. i want Dr. Owens (from UC Davis) back!! Ya'll are so lucky, he's such an awesome professor!

you guys all suck. Six exams stand between me and Christmas break...Six. What really sucks is that I've had back-to-back illnesses and have missed classes recently that I wouldn't normally miss. It scares me a bit

After 16 months I have finally finished 1st semester of 2nd year. It has been a LONG time coming.

Woo hoo.

Congrats!!:clap::clap:

Thanks everyone... Good luck on your finals. The end is near (or so says the Mayan nuts).

I will be so mad if I have spent my last two weeks on earth studying for 16hrs+ a day. They better be wrong!!!

Motivation for systemic path exam on Monday is pretty close to zero. I'm listening to the Redskins/Ravens game on my iPad with my notes in front of me..."studying"? I just want to be done argh 👎(

On the bright side, neither of the profs for SP are likely to ask stupid little details and chances are you remember some of it from other classes. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for FIP, GDV and bloat. And BVD.
