Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The AAMC and AMA use prestige as a reason for not expanding medical school class size and new schools until theyve shouted crisis. Guys like me are going to the carib in spite of being qualified to attend these schools and perform decently. I have no sympathy for a dying breed who cant help themselves adapt fast enough.

New era in medicine here I come.

I'm gonna be totally honest... I'll be pretty darn disappointed if I'm making less than the equivalent of 180k when I'm a MD. Although money isn't everything, some of my favorite things require a lot of $$ (cars/track racing, skiing, dance lessons, traveling, cars especially). As an engineering major, it wouldn't be that hard for me to get into the consulting business, since I have some contacts who could advise me on how to get into that route. I could probably be making $130k+ by the time I would be done with med school, residency at the latest. A PhD would net me ~$90k+ with no debt and a simple manager-track job, while less stable, would also net $90k+ after 6 years. Not to mention how I could have gone Dentistry instead--othodontics is like the best idea ever.

i eventually want to have a family, and depending on how much debt i have and how much money i'll be making will greatly affect the size of my family.

Dr. Cox:

I went into medicine for the same four reasons everyone goes into medicine: chicks, money, power, and chicks

Haha, if I work that hard to get the job, go through that much debt, etc.. I want to be comfortable after. That doesn't mean tons of money, but I want to not always be worrying about it, if you know what I mean.

as far as money goes I want a nice house, be able to travel, and provide for my family. too much to ask?

make sure you marry a working woman, and financial problems solved

It really depends on how you save money and allocate it during the younger years. Kids (college aged haha) who spend money on booze and whatever, are getting ripped off. There is little chance they are going to be rich no matter what their profession. The guy who saves his nickels watches it grow - treat your education like a savings bank and learn how to invest properly and regularly.

Your job should be the focal point of your income but you are in charge of what you do with the proceeds.

I hate being broke in general 🙁

j/k😛

Its not a terrible thing to be broke when you are young. It is certainly a terror to be broken when you are older. I think most of us will go to medical school and have a safe future so keep truckin.

Yea, I guess I kinda go along with "broke college student"

So no Duggar family for you in the near future?

Well I see it this way - how many college kids are on a forum for their collective interest in being a future whatever? Answer; just us, haha. I think maybe pre law kids do this too but otherwise most have odd jobs and no idea what they are interested in doing. We have a lot more incentive to do the right thing with our lives and the rewards follow it. Just keep in mind that most people are not even thinking about their future let alone having a 2 AM discussion on monday morning about it.

Now I am tempted to make that scruge duck my avatar!!! but alas, indian with sombrero it is.

I'm writing this to inform you that your friend request has been accepted. We are now friends 🙂

My current feelings are that kids are cute, just when they don't belong to me.

Haha! My sister doesn't like kids, and her idea of raising kids is when they get old enough, she sends them to military school.

The flaw in that plan is that when they get "old enough" they are more fun. It is the baby/toddler years that are a chore. When they are like 8-12 that's the best. That is when you have a constant mario kart playing, football throwing, movie watching, park playing, bike riding partner 24/7.

I think late elementary school is when they start to get annoying and super demanding. By middle school, they're all moody and confused about their "changes." I never want to deal with high school students.

Haha, I'm fine with late elementary school age, they usually believe anything

The bottleneck is residency spots, not med school size, at least as far as specialization goes, and the AMA doesn't have control over that.

Do you remember the rest tho? 😉

Haha, I'm screwed? Theres a good chance I'll have twins, it runs in my family and I'm a twin.

haha that's cool! you have the perfect back up kidney!

it's like what dexter said, they're cute to play with, then leave. it's not so great when you have to worry about what they'll become.

It all depends on your parenting technique. Let me show you what I mean:

Is it LeadershipXP if I'm organizing a party for my jazz dance class and other friends? Haha.

Anyway... bedtime.. recently finished my lab. Studying all day tomorrow except for while I'm in class. Thermo test tuesday. I'm gonna get owned. Ugh.

i've worked with kids quite a bit. the most consistent ages that i enjoy are 2nd-4th grade. any younger and they can be pretty whiny and once they get tired its a nightmare. older than 4th grade and the attitudes develop.

 That clip has so many gems. It gave me the opening to my personal statement (the bird thing). I could have lived without the second part though.

That guy is the BEST comedian out right now. He's the new richard pryor/eddie murphy. Daddy can do that for you all day every day no problem 👍

the part with the bird and shoebox still makes me laugh

yeah katt williams rocks. it makes me sad that dave chapelle gave it up. that man was a true artist.

One of my favorite chappelle clips is when he makes it and is rich, then goes back and tricks his ex-gf into leaving her husband for him. Then him, his wife and kids are waiting at the airport to laugh at her when she shows up. Hilarious.

Loved Dave Chapelle, he was hilarious

yea he's awesome. we were just talking about Russell Peters a few days ago too, have you guys heard of him? He's pretty good too:
