I'm still alive but in Goa, India. So far so good but at any rate I have not forgotten you and I certainly hope you have not forgotten me. Keep up the studying for those preparing for the MCAT and do write drafts of your personal statement in your free time as early as possible. No joke, those are terribly hard to write even if you feel you won't have trouble.

That's all I got.

So hey, I know this is random, but my babe needs surgery. It's just tubes, and I know she'll be fine, but I've got a knot in my gut. 🙁

when u say babe do u mean ur husband or your baby?? Either way they will be just fine. I think we all know its a hard long road to become a surgeon so you know your putting them in good hands. In fact they will be better after the surgery than before!

edit: btw that picture is hilarious!

My daughter. She's 14 months old and has had fluid behind her ears for a good three months and an ear infection that has taken 4 rounds of antibiotics to get rid of (it's gone now, supposedly, but I'm sure it would come back in a week), so she's a candidate for tubes. They think afterwards she'll start walking on her own (she has the strength but wants someone/thing to hold onto for balance) and she'll start picking up more words (I think the only new word she's picked up since the fluid started really hanging around is "cheese" and she was getting a lot before that) because right now she can't hear properly. It's like being underwater.

I know she's in excellent hands. The surgeon is an instructor at Temple and completed a fellowship in pediatric ENT and does research on middle ear infections so I know she'll be fine. The anesthesia is the only thing that makes me nervous, but it's just gas and she'll only be under for about 20 minutes.

(Sorry for the hyperlinks, copied from mdapps)
I know I don't have a chance at a half of them, for oos or some other reason, I have yet to really look at a lot of them and decide (waiting for mcat and stuff). My top two choices are University of Louisville and University of Central Florida

Just stay positive, I'm sure it'll be ok 🙂 I have a fear of surgery (haha) and I have a major problem with my jaw and am considering surgery to correct it, but I might have to have my jaw wired shut for awhile after, and anesthesia freaks me out, but if I know I'm in good hands, and that things will hopefully be better after, I'd be ok with it 🙂

My son had this same surgery done with the ear tubes at like 2 years old. he had the same problem chronic ear infections as well as hearing problems. It all cleared up a few months after this. Its a really minimal surgery and its short. The tubes often fall out on their own anyways and you wont even know! I was worried too but its not a lot to worry about. apparently its a very simple procedure as far as ENT goes.

No, just my sense of reality
lol w/e works 🙂

Are you from Florida?

Are you from Florida?

Haha yea

(I know louisville is tough on oos, I do have a lot of ties to the state. I was born in one of UofL's teaching hospitals, almost my entire family lives in Louisville, I have friends there, one of their trained residents saved my sister's life...whatever else I can throw in)

your list looks good to me assuming your mcat is at least a balanced 30-32!🙂. Univ of tennesse/south carolina is slightly questionable but w/e no harm in trying. good luck! man its weird to think i did this crap last year.

Yea, crossin my fingers for that, and I still need to look through the current MSAR and cut out like half the list.

Hello Everyone. This application year will be one of the best years for many of us because it will be the year many of us learn if we are in or not. Gosh, I wish everyone the best of luck. It is luck that will get us in right? I do not know why we assume great GPA and MCAT scores will do it. No, it is luck that we are counting on. Pure luck. Just Kidding! Let's do this class of 2015!

You're absolutely right, I'm taking nothing for granted. I'm FAR from being as bright as some of the people on SDN, so the only two weapons I have is my work ethic, and my character.

I'll be thrilled if I get even 1 acceptance - doesn't matter what the degree is, MD/DO, who cares. I'm applying everywhere - I know that I got this far in my education because of hard work, and I firmly believe that wherever we get in, it is hard work that will make us good doctors.

Always remember - do the right things, and what was meant to happen, will happen.

i dont live on campus 🙁 it's okay ive studied some

apts are better than dorms, fyi 🙂

i thought dorms were just for first year scrublets. ahhh the good old days, gpa suffered a bit but so worth it. im livin in an apt now about 4 min walk from campus. its a nice walk too through a woody area right by a river.

I went and saw Shutter Island last night, it was creepy haha! Oh, and I see I finally have a job for the travel, getting the massuse?

That also reminds me, those of you going to med school this year or applying, would you want to live in an apartment, dorm, house, a box? Haha, I'm planning on renting a house.

as for living, i think i would want a dorm first year. not sure tho... I want to make sure i can meet/hang out with ppl easily but at the same time i dont want to live in a 3x3 foot piece of poop

good plan. well hopefully you find some you like.

isnt that kind of weird to be in a 2 person apt with someone of the opposite sex if you aren't dating/relationship?

i can imagine it being cool in like a 4 person apt with guys and girls, but i can just see it being a strange friendship dynamic living in an apt with just 1 girl.

or maybe i'm just behind the times..
