Daisy: if you're still online...do you have any tips on how to get from USC-HSC campus to the airport?? I'm sort of confused about the public transportation in LA....I have a feeling I'm gonna get VERY lost. I would very much appreciate any tips you may have. 😀

Hi! The reason you're confused about the public transportation in LA is because there is no public transportation in LA. You can take USC's free shuttle to Union Station and then catch the "Flyaway" shuttle to LAX. That would probably be really inexpensive, just super slow.

Service is provided from 7:00 a.m. to 9:15 p.m. Trams leave from the corner of Eastlake and San Pablo every hour from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and every 10-20 minutes during prime afternoon/evening hours.

Cougs---> I am staying w/a student in Pasadena tomorrow evening, and leave LA after my interview on Wednesday....I wish I were interviewing at UCSD and got to have breakfast with you like everyone else. 🙁🙁 Alas, UCSD has placed me on hold....
 
Also, if I were ruler of the universe, I would make sure every major (and even some minor) city had a BART/METRO-like system.

Damn I wish I had known, I would have planned it to come up there and visit you🙁 🙁 I am on call tomorrow night so I need to be as close to the SD area as possible. Please PM me your number though, and if I don't get called in tomorrow, I will come up and drive you to the airport after your interview. I will know by 6am whether or not I have gotten a call and I will text you.


Also....just saw your post on the 10+ interview thread, hahahaha, you RULE.

speaking of interviews, i find it quite sad that i have more job interviews than medschool interviews thus far....a sign?
 
I will be so glad to get out of my crappy undergrad university and into an updated med school. I think this science building was designed by cavemen.
 
HOLY STORMS! It's a hot mess outside in the 'ol Ohio Valley.

they announced a 'Code Grey' for the medical center - at which point all the PhDs in my department jumped up and yelled "oh no, what's that?!" (good, glad you know the codes) - upon hearing it was a tornado warning, they decided that our inside office area with no windows wasn't good enough and we needed to go down in the basement. Oy.

anyway, brought my lunch down with me and we watched TV for a while. good work day! 👍

how's about an update on the lives of everyone else? 😉

For the next 30 days, I am allowing myself to only eat out once a week....since this is the area where I am hemorrhaging money and need to work it out before med school starts. I went to the store yesterday and I am quite happy with my filled fridge.

Or at least I am telling myself that.

Oh geez, I'm terrible at that game. I made a plan last fall that I would spend less than $___ per week (don't remember how much) and I would accomplish this by:
- bringing coffee every day instead of buying it (sounds easy enough)
- same with lunch (or at least 2-3x per week)
- eating out very rarely

Let's just say I haven't used a travel mug in about 6 months aaaand the containers in my cabinet are probably dusty from lack of use. I really need to get better at this - it's just so tough when the caramel macchiatos are staring me in the face and the grilled cheese in the cafeteria sounds better than a peanut butter sandwich. Ah well. I wish you more luck than I had, Cougs!

I try to bring my lunch every day too. The no-Starbucks thing is easy for me since I don't drink coffee. I'm usually too lazy/late in the morning to make lunch so I grab a Lean Cuisine. Some of them are pretty tasty and they're like $2 each.
 
hahaha you guys are crazy. i eat at subway at least 1x a day, and other places at least 2x a day.. trying to bring it down to cooking once a day and eating out ONLY 2x a day 🙂
 
Now that I don't have to worry about having to teach biology for a living instead of going to medical school, I actually read a book. "Skinny B*tch" will make you change your diet if nothing else does. Pretty hilarious, too.

Yeah, I read a little of that book... but I like animal products, Diet Coke, and alcohol too much to take any of it seriously. I'm pretty wary of anything that preaches an all-vegan diet, anyways.

Agreed on the my diet must include meat. Plus, you don't realize exactly how much meat products are really in - we may not eat the whole pig anymore but they do certainly make use of it, there's an excellent TED talk about it.

Wouldn't want to be a vegan needing a heart valve replacement... though there are a lot more artificial valve options now.

It's really funny, bc despite my avatar, I am most definitely NOT a vegan/vegetarian. I just thought the picture was amusing. =D

There's no way I could be vegan. That would take way too much effort. I just don't eat any actual meat. Cheese and milk I have to have.

Anyway, hope everyone is having a good night..and that more good news is coming around! I just took two midterms today, and I got the results of one of them..and DAMN did I do poorly (about the mean) haha. Oh well, it's senior year so "grades don't matter THAT much" lol.

nba has more excitement than any other sport!!! if you just saw the game tonight you would know what i mean...and it was only the first game. just imagine the playoffs 😍

13 interview invite today! 6th of MD established schools.

I'm starting to realize that I could have applied to 16 schools, and gotten an acceptance... or even just Chicago-area schools... but who knows, if I had done that, I probably would have gotten in nowhere.
