Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
of the people i've talked to who have had interviews so far they have not had healthcare reform questions, lets hope this keeps up!

Where I work, during surgery the anesthesia docs, surgeons, nurses, and PAs talk about it all the time... and the conversation always ends with "I don't know how all of this is going to work out." Even healthcare workers are confused about how the reform will impact them.

IMO the good things about the reform are that it will close the medicare "donute hole," prevent insurance companies from refusing coverage to people with pre-existing conditions (including children), and create programs to help employers cover people who elect for early retirement until they can receive medicare.

The controversial part is that some of those things could have been done individually and not attached to a bill that forces people to recieve coverage. Also, there is the debate about whether or not the wealthy should be providing the tax revenue to provide coverage for the less fortunate. Essentially, how much do we want government telling us what to do. Although, that debate is pretty pointless now, considering the bill already passed 😀.

one of my members at the gym is an adminstrator for a sizeable family practice and was telling about "pay for performance". basically, in 2015 insurance companies will only pay based on if results are being seen. the example my friend told me about was say a patient has diabetes and a blood sugar of 220. the insurance company will have a sugar level that they deem appropriate as a goal for the patient based on age, gender, etc, say, 120 in a certain amount of time. well, if the patient is compliant then the goal should be obtained and the insurance company will keep covering the patient... on the other hand, if the patient isnt compliant or is unable for whatever reason to reach the goal then the insurance company will stop coverage, and you as the physician will let that patient go because they are now a liability. great bill guys!

most docs i've talked to about it have been pretty liberal about it and are for the bill, which is kinda confusing in a sense, but oh well...

also, the bill would make it bad for small business owners who would now have to provide health insurance for their employees. this is bad because:

1. employers will start hiring people only part time, not full time
2. less employees (which may go against #1, but still overall bad because less jobs and/or less hours). also, employers that cannot afford to pay for the insurance are gonna have to raise prices, cut pay, etc....

if that is true, then people are ******ed to sign that bill into full effect....i hope it undergoes some MAJOR changes ASAP.

Pandora is making me want to have a dance party rather than write my last secondary. I held off on pre-writing this one because it's the longest secondary known to man and now I'm regretting it.

Back to our normal topic... did anyone eat anything yummy today?

pandora is the tits.

i had some delicous roasted chicken, green beans, and sweet potato fries. pretty tasty, indeed.

I hope it does keep up. There's such fear-mongering and false information out there that unless I get to vote on something, I'd rather just wait for the dust to settle and see where we're at. Of course, I will be studying up on the topic for my interview, but that wouldn't be my personal preference.

This is exactly how I feel about it, too. I would love to actually say just this at an interview, but I know I should read up at least a little. *sigh*

Made a candied ginger and pear upside down cake last night. Tonight is raspberry brownies. 🙂

randomly i was thinking today that if i could only know two people in the entire world they would be two attractive females. one would be a farmer and one would be a doctor. i feel like that would cover my basic needs pretty well for the living. assuming i will be a doctor (karma, you know what i'm saying, don't jinx me) i think i would change the doctor to an engineer or a contractor.

if you could only know two people what would they be? (i feel like this is a decent ice breaker type question)

Paula Deen and Betty White. No, I don't want to have sex with either of them.

for all the ******ed BS in male interview clothing thread, my interviews net tally so far: 21 people, 20 black suits, 1 person that looked really uncomfortable for not wearing a black suit

haha. i havent ventured into that thread, but i imagine they are hating on black suits?

i'm going with a navy suit with some light pinstripes.

I got a charcoal suit because blond hair + black suit = any female character on CSI. I think the rules are a little different for girls though. Some girl got a burgundy suit with pinstripes and LizzyM gave it the thumbs-up. Basically for girls, it's like, "Don't look like you're going to work out on the street corner as soon as this interview wraps up."

hahah i think other attires are perfectly fine, you just have to be confident,
congrats on the interviews everyone btw, took a while to catch up on those posts

exactly, i considered looking for another suit but then i realized that i feel like a boss in the one i've been planning on using anyway.

yeah I think feeling good is the most important part, actually.

I'm in SUCH a good mood - I got an interview I'd been hoping for today. 😀

Which secondary? Oregon? Duke? Those were both bad.

Mmmmm.....will you marry me?🙂

I had these awesome mint brownies last week. The person who made them layered Andes candies between two layers of brownie mix and then made mint buttercream frosting for them. SO good.

Dolly Parton and my Mom.

Or, if we can do dead people......FDR and Cary Grant.

The secondary's for a school in Chicago that rhymes with "b*tch." I'm writing an essay about dealing with my alcoholic friend right before she was forced into rehab while listening to Radiohead... = drown in a pool of my own tears time

I just got an interview invite 🙂🙂 .. the school is kinda good too 😀.

Whimsy, you are just crazy beyond measure. WOW. lol congratssss

And congrats Rhino, if you're personality wont get u that one, i'm sure your suit will 😉 haha.

I am addicted to these fake chicken strips by Gardein.

What I don't understand is how they can be made with "7 grains" yet they only have 1 gram of fiber. So ridiculous.

Too bad fake chicken tastes way better than real chicken.

I like the fake chicken nuggets. Sadly, the regulations about labeling food aren't very strict, so the amount of each of the 7 grains is pretty small I bet.

I think I've become a brownie snob. Last night I was worried 4 ounces of chocolate weren't enough for the batch and even threw in a little more, and they were still not chocolatey enough.

Ok, SERIOUSLY. We need to live in the same city.

Do you think if we both donate our bodies to them for anatomy lab after we die, they would let us both into UCSD? Then we can be neighbors or roommates and make and eat brownies and fake chicken nuggets all day.

Please bleargh.....we all know chicken is the most worthless protein on the planet.

If you're looking at calories, you can have filet for the same "price" and it is way better.

Chicken is the cheap crap protein.....why do you think it is so ubiquitous. It is worthless. I'd rather have anything. Soy. Beef. Fish. Legumes.

You sir, are wrong!

chicken, first of all, is delicious. i will sick my southern friends on you. watch out.

second, it's very high quality lean protein. that's why all the meatheads eat it

I just got an interview invite 🙂🙂 .. the school is kinda good too 😀.

Congrats on the II!!

I got one today too..the school isn't the highest on my list, but hey, it's a school and I appreciate the opportunity, because who knows I may end up here!

i can eat chicken every day.

i have been complete at a school since before july 15th, and they havent even started offering invites yet... what the hell are they doing?

first rejection (from vandy) followed by invite from hopkins, i will take that exchange anyyyy day of the week yo 😀
raging is imminent, will check back tomorrow
congrats on the others w/ invites

You can get stuff TO GO at Souplantation!

For $9.12, I got a large salad container and two small soup containers, plus two cups for dressing and a bag for bread. Of course, I used the bread bag to put baked potatoes in. But hey.

I have enough food for like 4 meals. So excited.

Congrats on the invite! Sorry to hear about the rejection, but at least you got some good news to balance it out!

Anyone around?

Looking for conservative pumps is torture. Not only are there no cute ones, but I have to go through pages of hot really high heels to find them. 🙁
