Class of 2016....how ya doing?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I have a kind of love-hate relationship with our dissection cat, Paprika. On the positive side, having to dissect on such a small little animal is nice because you really learn where the muscles are in relation to one another. On the negative side, everything is SO FREAKING TINY, ahaha.

Can't believe so many places haven't even started yet! We're having our first anatomy test on Wednesday!

We have named our cat Martin 🙂 bonus about the cat: if you can find it on that cat, finding it on the dog is super easy!!! Go kitties!

Moving day tomorrow! Excited but anxious about getting everything/everyone there in one place. Orientation starts a week from tomorrow and classes start on the 27th.

:xf: that my pets and I survive the move.

Just survived day 2 of orientation. Day 1 consisted of team building stuff and lectures, which was actually kinda fun. Today featured even more lectures and dishing out the cash to pay for any books/supplies I ordered from their student run store. Tomorrow is "Join Clubs Day" (which means handing out even more cash) with guess what? even more lectures! YAY! (not...).

Though on the bright side, we get our gifted stethoscopes tomorrow! 😀

Ok, I'm gonna officially change my status to "veterinary student" now!!!! :woot:

Because... well... I'm a VETERINARY STUDENT!!!! :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana: :biglove::biglove::zip::zip:

Time to change your status to veterinary student. You are confusing me.

I was waiting to start school so Nyanko didn't yell at me, then forgot. 😛

I love how we were told not to name our cadaver and then like the first thing we did was name them, haha.

I think its interesting y'all start with a cat. We start with a dog and then go to a cat (I think...)

I think for the workshop I took this summer my group and I named our dog cadaver Poochy, just because.

We actually have both - most people have dogs, Katie and I just both happen to have kitties.

Yep yep 🙂

I think we switch cadavers after this exam, I don't want to do a dog! :scared: they are so fatty and hard to skin!

Haha now that I can agree with you on. I guess it depends on your dog how fatty it is, but it was definitely a challenge to remove the skin. The cat is way easier. Though on the bright side, if you have a fatty dog, you won't have too much trouble keeping it wet 😛

why would i yell at you i don't care

i was one of the ones calling whoever posted the thread a few years ago about DON'T CHANGE YOUR STATUS UNTIL YOU START VET SCHOOL stupid lol

I couldn't remember who had started that stupid thread ages ago so I associated you with it, sorry. 😛 It wasn't a particularly serious comment.

That was Electrophile.

For those of you who want to relive the past (or see all those 2014ers when they were at the same stage as you...)

So sad that thread was closed... so many points I want to make now having just re-read it.

1) VIN lets in students who have been given student e-mail addresses even before they start school, so obviously they DON'T make that distinction.

2) Sumstorm argues that most of us won't be posting once we are in vet school, and I have to say a pretty good % of those 2014ers are still around (some more than others)..😀

3) As a student now, I really could care less when anyone changes their status, so I still disagree with Electrophile.

4) I relate a little more to the soul-sucking of vet school comments now unfortunately.

5) I laughed at my own posts... (pat on back)... surprisingly not embarrassed by my old comments.

6) Dyachei, the voice of reason even before she was a mod. Now we know why she got the mod job!

per number 6: Since when?!😀

Convocation ceremony is over, classes start Wednesday 👍. Ready to get started!

Just came back from vacation and have been getting the run around with fixing an issue with my laptop. It was supposed to come with Norton Antivirus but didn't. I called HP who tried to fix the issue but couldn't so they told me to call Norton who tried to fix the issue but they couldn't either so I had to call HP again and am now waiting for a case manager to call me back :boom:

On the bright side, my vacation was amazing and I'm meeting some fellow SDNers tonight!

Orientation week starts in 3 days!!!!

Done with orientation! Got my stethoscope - Littmann II Classic - in burgundy (so TAMU), got my note packets, signed up for clubs...I think I'm ready to start now! 😀

I got my white coat today! Wahoo!
I'm starting to feel like a veterinary student... We have continued orientation Monday and Tuesday... Then it gets real with the start of classes on Wednesday.

I'm a little worried because I am running low on cash and need to buy things like my parking pass, books, and club memberships. We don't get our extra money from loans for another 2 weeks. I hate to ask my parents for the money... Ugh.

Just for fun: me and the bf after the ceremony.

I didn't realize people got their white coats that early on. We get ours after our two didactic years, right before clinics. Congrats! 😀

yeah, it should be right before clinics... But doing it now creates a feeling of togetherness and belonging so say the experts.

👍 Looks like Oklahoma State does it too.

Ohio State does our white coat before clinics too. Today we got scrub tops 🙂 (really nice ones! This one is not going to anatomy lab!)

At Illinois we start out with blue coats, before we graduate to the white coats in our later years. Orientation starts next week, and I am feeling still a bit unprepared. I think once I know exactly what they expect us to wear for our rotations and such I will be fine, until then I think I will feel like I am missing something.

Oregon State also has a white coat ceremony right before we start our first year. I didn't realize that some schools don't give out white coats until later on!

Only a few days more than a month until I start school - this has been a four-month long summer for me. At first I thought it'd be great and I could maximize relaxing until school started, but now I feel like it's only giving me more time to become anxious before class starts! I'm getting more nervous every day :scared: I just want to start already and get the anxiety over with!

White coat, check. Official SDN vet student, check. Hopefully I'll have more time to surf the internet now that orientation is over...oh wait, classes.....

We actually have both - most people have dogs, Katie and I just both happen to have kitties.

I have a very old kitty named Sally. She likes to remain very dry and her muscles like to kind of rip apart. I don't want to get rid of her. I would like to stay working on the kitty.

Also it's a welcome into the profession and an invitation to see what's going on in the clinics.

Wow. Its kinda cool that some of you guys get your white coats before 1st year. We don't get ours til right before 3rd yr, which is when we start doing surgeries. Until then, the TVMA gives us class gifts at the start of the school year.

The bookstore will hold your check for books/notes until financial aid comes in. Just mention it when you check out, but they will most likely ask about it anyway. And most club memberships won't be due for a couple of weeks. Most of us are running low on money right now! 😳

Congrats on the white coat ceremony!

My big sib emailed me today! yay!😀
I watched a few of the anatomy dissection videos today. We are supposed to watch a few everyday before lab. Looks like a lot of info, but not too bad..We'll see in 9 days!

Arrived in Charlottetown yesterday. Everyone, including the hamster and betta, arrived safely 🙂 Spent the past day and a half painting the basement and cleaning. Roommates moving in Monday. So tired but happy.

Had our mentor/mentee party last night and I got to meet my mentor/big sis! And she's totally awesome!

First day of classes tomorrow! :scared: Just trying to organize all my crap so I won't have to do it when things get crazy. My desk broke during the move, too 🙁

Trying to figure out how best to mentally relax today. Classes start for us tomorrow as well. We got this. :scared:

Oh Jeebies! You guys got this! A glass of wine always helps me relax

You guys can do it!! It really isn't that bad, promise.

Went over the skull self-assessment questions at the end of my lab sheet. 40 questions, I have not finished going over all of the skull yet but I just wanted to see what I have remembered/what I need to focus on. I was able to get 27 out of 40 correct, which is passing!! YAY!! And now I know what parts of the skull I need to focus on. 🙂
