Class of 2016....how ya doing?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just had my BBQ and it was amazing!!! I have another Disney fan classmate!! Can't wait for orientation to start.

That's awesome. I'm excited about meeting my classmates!

I have officially packed one box for school.

Containing binders and board games. 😎

I am not ready to move on Sunday!!!

Is it normal to have a complete and total mental and emotional breakdown before vet school even starts.. because I am definitely stressed out/hitting rock bottom right now....

I'm there with you, man. It will be challenging to start school when you're still getting used to the country, but it's going to be so worth it in the end. Chin up, buttercup.

So, so normal. Mine was last week/weekend, and I predict another this weekend. You're just following the natural cycle of "the seven steps of starting vet school". Acceptance is on its way!

I am in love with my apartment, inadament object or not.
:biglove:

And there were some pretty big scratches on the hard wood floor 🙁
(under where the beds go), but I'm worried about not getting my deposit back when I leave 🙁

Could you tell them now? Take pictures and send them in an email to have proof?

I did, but we took it as is with risk of losing the security deposit. Long story. I'm still trying though.

So the fiance's awesome friends packed him out to Vegas for his bachelor party. Mostly I'm ok with this because hey, I'm stealing him away from them (geographically 😉 ) for at least the next four years so they all deserve a celebration.

But holy jeez is the timing so wrong. Our wedding is a week and a half away, and he won't even get back until Sunday, which leaves precious little time for all that last-minute-couple-planning that needs to be done (such as - you know - getting a marriage license...).

We've had tastings scheduled for weeks that suddenly I'm flying solo or taking my Maid of Honor to, and that kinda sucks because this is the fun part of wedding planning and I've absolutely abhorred (abhorred) the rest of this whole planning process, and now my partner is MIA.

And also I don't appreciate being left to plan on my own, anyway.

Basically it all boils down to an inner conflict between the cool-fiancee part of me that wants to make sure he has a blast and the freaking-out-bride in me that wants him to realize the stress I'm under.

I need a drink.

Hey! I noticed you're going to UTK. I'm an alternate there. Have you talked to anyone that's actually been accepted as an alternate? :-\

Who are you talking to?

Sorry! I was talking to you.

Oh, ok. I don't personally know anyone who has been called off the waitlist, but a few people this year have mentioned being called off of it (on Facebook).

I just purchased a bunch of binders, paper, pencils, pens, index cards, sticky notes to find things more easily, etc, etc, etc.

I hope I got enough stuff and that it will be the right stuff to stay organized/on top of notes and things.... :xf: :xf:

I'm holding off buying things until I get in class... I just have no grasp of what will work. I'm scared it is going to take me too long to adjust.

Hi, I was accepted off the waitlist and know quite a few other people who were as well. I am not sure if the class is full yet . Maybe call the school and see if they can give you any info. Are you IS or OOS?

Since everyone is moving into their new places... Would anyone like to share pictures of their new apartments (flats) that we all worked so hard to find? I took some of mine but I have to get them off my phone first and they are not the best pics (mainly because the floor is a little dirty and I haven't had a chance to buy a vacuum).

I don't have furniture for half of my stuff so my place is a little cluttered. I don't even have a couch. 😱

Don't worry, we'll be sleeping in the anatomy lab. Who needs a bed?? 😀

My flat came fully furnished.. Hopefully you will get furniture soon. I am sure it looks fine without it. My place is still in shambles too... I have a bunch of stuff that I recently purchased just sitting it their bags next to my couch... don't really feel like pulling them out quite yet.... I think that makes it seem a little more real then... :scared:

Also, the carpet in my flat really needs to be vacuumed but I have yet to buy one....

Once I get monies! It was just too hard to justify moving a $20 bookshelf. As for the couch that's a bed bug horror story.

I can post pictures of my apartment with the furniture in it from the current residents. Otherwise ya'll have to wait until after the 10th when I move in. Assuming we sign the lease and everything...which I swear if we find a reason to not sign it, I will freak out since orientation starts the 21st.

So you have to step into the tub to wash your hands??? Lol

That or lean over the bathtub... It is perfect for those who like to brush their teeth in the shower, I am not someone who likes to do that.

DVM I think you need more books.

 I think I will acquire some more books, it is just hard to bring a lot of things over the big ol' ocean. The highest shelf on that bookshelf goes a good 4-5 feet above my head. I would either need to throw the books onto that shelf or use a ladder on the stairs which sounds really dangerous.

DVM, love the sink in the tub! Haha.

Seriously, the books halfway up the stairs is pretty cool.

I'll post pictures of our new house when I get back from the beach.

It is currently 85.5 degrees F in my apartment with 47% humidity 🙁. The AC has been running non stop since Wednesday and it was cool yesterday but today it is hot again. Called maintenance. If you open the door more than twice a day (now I have my dog with me who has yet to pee, so we've been out 6-7 times and I brought some more stuff in the car so I was bringing boxes up, mostly when we came back in from trying to get him to pee, but also a couple extra trips, but the door has only been opened twice since 2:30 PM and it is still super hot and when I say opened, I mean opened we walked out then closed again and then opened, we walked in and closed again!). I just have the equivalent of a window AC, but I only have a 360 square foot studio, and the temp is about 3 feet from the AC unit, it is considerably hotter in the bathroom and closet and over at that end of the apartment in general. And no, I haven't run any appliances at all today, was gonna have soup for supper, but oddly enough not hungry for that . Showered at home before heading back out with the dog too, so don't even have that to blame the heat on.

Anyways, I'll stop ranting. Here's a few pictures of my apartment, definitely nothing fancy (I just need a place to sleep, eat, study, and store my stuff and I'm happy):

DVM Dream love the sink in the tub . Your flat is really nice. When I hear flat, I think really old. That is pretty nice! Are you rooming with others? If not, I'd imagine that's super expensive!

3 weeks until orientation and I haven't packed a thing. I leave for Charlottetown in 2 weeks and have so much to do. I have been avoiding things and it hasn't seemed real until today. I had my last day at work and all of a sudden I had to face reality.

My dad and I bought a house and I'm sharing it with 2 other vet students. One is a coworker and I haven't met the other one. I'm scared we won't get along and it will suck 🙁 I'm more worried about the roommate situation than school. I haven't lived with anyone except my SO in 5 years so it will be an adjustment. I will miss him, one of our cats, and our hamster so much (they are staying in Halifax). I know going to vet school is right for me and the best choice, but it sucks to leave almost everything I love behind. I'm lucky my SO, family, and friends are supportive. It makes the transition easier but it still sucks sometimes.

I am all by myself... It is 495 pounds/month.
That's really not bad at all! I'm paying almost that much for a studio apartment that is tiny. Are any utilities covered? That's what's saving me with my studio, everything but water (including internet and cable!) are included in rent.

It is the equivalent of paying $750/month. No utilities are included those I must pay separate. It isn't too bad, compared to other places.

Tomorrow's the big move day! AHHH!!!!!

Though sad news, my bed won't be arriving til Thursday(!) and the rest of my furniture won't make it til after Labor Day...so it'll be a really empty room for a while 🙁

I'm moving tomorrow toooo!!!!!

Oh and I adopted the kitty! Here's Phoenix if you haven't seen in the SDN WW thread!

Yeah, I pay $700 a month for my studio, but it does include electric, gas, trash, cable, and internet 🙂. So, total I pay what you pay for everything including my dog.
