Class of 2016!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hmm... I was unaware that any of the NC schools gave "auto" invites...

I'm using Interfolio for all of my letters. I love it! You just get all your letters, send them to AMCAS, and AMCAS will notify you when they receive them I think. Then you can assign which letters go where on your primaries. I don't think you have to send letters until secondaries though. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Ok cool so I can get a doctor from a certain school to write me a LOR and only send it to that school right?

Yes,my IS school screens secondaries so if you get one you get an automatic invite for an interview...I'm just nervous I don't make the screen since the school is my top choice, I wanna do everything I can to show interest.

You're also IS, which is a big, big plus for you. I'm sure you'll be just fine.

thanks I sure hope so, I'm just anxious :scared:

Your list on MDapps looks very regional. Was that on purpose? You should add Vandy and Emory. Both are very nice and right in that region. I loved Emory's undergrad...

Yep. 33. Better safe than sorry. Will be charging the $1216 to my credit card 😡

$1,480.00 here . I have a waiver for the secondary apps though since I got FAP approval in late November. Too bad I won't get my parents' taxes in on time to waive those primary fees....🙁.

Damn! 40 schools or so? Nice!

Are all secondary fees waived, or is it just to a certain number of schools?

Either way, sounds like a big help! 👍

Some schools require extra documentation, but IIRC, as long as you received FAP then technically all your secondary fees can be waived.

 Yea it's at 41 now, but I think I'm just getting overzealous. I should probably remove the 3 or 4 crazy reaches like UCSF, Columbia, etc.

Umm not every school does it, but almost all do. Tulane doesn't for example (according to MSAR) and that is really disappointing since it's a major target school for me (and it costs $100). I've been e-mailing particular schools of interest and asking them about it. It is a great help, and without it I would have a list around 10 schools, and mostly only IS.

Didn't know this 👎. I stand corrected.

So far I have listed 21 schools on my AMCAS and need to decide which one to remove. Boo.

21 sounds OK to me, unless you absolutely cannot afford it. Don't take my word for it. Contact schools if you are curious. I have the MSAR from last year, so IDK if anything has changed. According to my MSAR schools that do not honor the waiver include Maryland, Tulane, Indiana, Hawaii, Florida 🙂mad🙂, Oklahoma, and Howard. Pretty much everyone does though.

I'm definitely adding Vandy, for some reason when I add schools on my medapps they aren't showing up? The school list on my medapps is way shorter than my real list...why aren't you applying to Vandy?

Premed committee doesn't want us applying to more than 20 schools based on how other students in the past have performed. Meh. I'll comply with their wishes (for now). They want a copy of our verified AMCAS in July, so maybe I'll add some more afterwards.

Oh, I see. I was about to say 'really only 9 schools'?

You have to click on the school and click on the box that says "Submitted". Took me a while to figure that out too 🙂

 That's such a ridiculous request! You guys just keep making me glad I don't have a pre-med committee with all these awful stories!

They have a waiver available now (according to this year's msar), and they raised the fee to $125 :meanie:

196 Vanderbilt undergrads applied last year, most with much better stats then me. It is too competitive for Vandy undergrads for my taste. The matriculation data is misleading since a large number come through the early admissions route. I spent a lot of time in the medical center, and lived in the medical library. I highly recommend applying as it is a really wonderful school.

Whizo: I'm happy to hear Tulane honors the fee waiver now 🙂

I want to apply to more schools, but money is so much of an issue for me that I don't think I can afford more than the 14 I get from FAP. Maybe I should start playing the lottery so I can win some money and apply to more schools. My credit cards are closed while I'm paying them off and I doubt my parents are going to aid me financially. This sucks, so I'm going to have to make sure those 14 schools count, and kill the MCAT

I really want to love this one med school, but the website is difficult to navigate and doesn't give me even a sense of what opportunities are available to students. And I'd like to think I'm well-versed in the Internet.

fffffffffuuuuuuu

Gotcha man, hopefully we interview at the same school...looks like we got a lot of the same schools on our list!

sorry to hear that, you'll kill the MCAT no worries...14 schools is plenty.

Ugh I can't bring myself to work on the Work and Activities section. Still waiting on a letter of rec as well :/ Not gonna lie, sat on the sofa for the past few hours being a bum and watching Food Network 🙁

You'll kill it, don't worry 🙂 All you need is one school to show you some love!

I'm in the same boat. 😳
I can't bring myself to rework my ps, enter my work/activities and explain why I am underserved. I really need to get in the writing mood!

Lol wow. Yea I had 40 on my list and shaved it down to 33. Sticking with that number I think.

Bogus!

Ah same here. I'm about half way through it, and don't want to look at it anymore!

45 degrees today... soooo nice! my windows are open and I didn't want to get out of bed this morning hehehe 😳

It was a miserable commute in the Chi today 😡

Also- I wanted to mention that I actually like this "most meaningful" addition to the app. I feel like I was able to voice a lot in that extra space of 1300+ characters. Thoughts?

I wasn't too into it at first, but now that I'm done writing them, I can see the point. Most of my descriptions are pretty short and to the point, so I was glad to expand a little for a few of them.

Oooooh not as bad as yesterday though. Ugh I had to take cicero all the way up north to BFE skokie in the downpour. And people are STILL speeding, tailgating, and swerving through traffic to get ahead. I ended up brake checking one woman. :meanie:

I like the most meaningful essays too, especially with the 700 character limit on all activities. It turned out that I didn't really have as much overlap with the PS as I originally thought.

How far south are you coming from? That's a recipe for disaster, especially if you're near 95th and Cicero.

I take Harlem to North to Cicero, so it's not too bad. And I was headed up to the dealership to get an estimate on my car. 700 bucks to replace the hub and fix the broken wheel stud. 😱 🙁

Fortunately it's not something I have to do immediately, but it's something I know is gonna eventually happen. Gah. Definitely no more track days this summer. 🙁

Yeah I wouldn't have brake checked the woman if I thought otherwise. I remember there were a couple of road rage shootings in CA a loooong time ago. So not worth getting shot over it.

Nope, not a bad commute. That's a bad mechanic bill, though!

Bummer!

latest MSAR has 30% of applicants receiving an interview at WashU......that's pretty good, I'm guessing that the applicant pool is just that good?

We have a lot of Chicagoans on this thread. It makes me want to watch Ferris Bueller's Day Off
