Class of 2017!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Got our biochem lecture notes for the first block --the block of death.

Yeah, but today was 100% review so that was nice. Only 550 pages to go for test 1!

Our first exam only covers roughly ~150 pages of lectures notes. It's not a ton of material. Some of the later blocks are in the 600-700's.

I just opened a can of corn with only a spoon. I feel kinda like a badass but mostly like a poor ass.

Making a ton of homemade spaghetti sauce to last a few weeks of medical school. All of it using fresh ingredients. Just have like 15 minutes left and then to pasteurize the jars so it will last a while in case I don't eat it all right away.

Meanwhile, I cooked rice and threw a fried egg over it. Dinner!

Ok, so do you think Jesse has lost it enough to squeal on Walt?

No spoilers! I haven't watched any of the new season... I need to find a way to watch it online before school.

Does anyone know if Hulu Plus has it?

PM'd. Also, there is a new season of The Walking Dead coming up. How am I supposed to medical school?

Can we do a Zombie Phys elective?

Wow, we just went through literally all of embryology in 3 hours.

I feel like this is something they should be obligated to warn you about during your interview.

Meanwhile, we're learning that adenine base pairs with thymine over a course of 100 slides; also, there's something called 'proteins.' I may lose it soon.

Are they doing the thing where you have to remember which functional groups on each base h-bonds to which other functional groups? I remember from molecular bio something about wacky alternative base pairings and the teacher was really anal about us being able to draw each base & the correct h-bond configurations for the pairings...I have remembered none of it.

Oh hey everyone I found the latest episode on youtube!

Summer is officially over (for the most part) and now it is back to the old avatar.

Funny thing, without the mustache my avatar looks younger. I guess having facial hair also make cartoon characters look older.

And I made a gif of the avatars over the summer. I may have to change it to the gif to celebrate.

When you're sitting in a coffee shop and see someone browsing SDN on their laptop..........

It means you are incredibly sleep deprived and it is actually you browsing SDN. You are just having an out of body experience.

AM NOT!

I most definitely creeping on someone else. :naughty:

Casually walk by them and get their username.

Then PM them and tell them you know exactly where they are and to buy the guy in the corner a drink (which will of course be you).

For everyone that is having trouble with embryo, search "medical embryology" in YouTube and watch the first link that comes up it's called difficult concepts explained or something like that about 18 minutes long. It was extremely helpful for visualizing what is happening!

Thanks! I will definitely check that out

Dat Morphogen gradient. French flag FTW.

I have no idea what you just said... Haha. Hopefully that'll change in a few hours.

Seriously, he explains it amazingly well! It's insane that a guy with play dough can explain a weeks worth of embryo lectures better than a phd from Duke in 18 minutes. Haha!

Looks like everybody is feeling the pain these days...eat those pancakes guys! Just finished my first anatomy competency exam yesterday. I hit it hard over the weekend...put in about 32 hours of studying. It was brutal but it really paid off when scores came out today.

BABS & I have no pancakes yet.

And....32 hours...in 2 days?? Or are you counting Friday? I don't know if I can swing a concerted 16 hour study day.

Me neither. 😱

To those talking about it earlier, I need to get caught up on Breaking Bad, too. Haven't seen any of the new season.

We spent like 3 hours of lecture alone on nervous system development.....and had 3 hours of lab on it. I don't know if I am lucky or somehow got the short end of this embryology stick.

Embryology was cool until I had to look at 100s of sections of stage 13 embryos and identify cardinal veins and aortic arches and the allantois and the septum transversum and the developing liver and the pericardial-peritoneal canal vs. the pericardial sac and omg I can't stare at any of these sections anymore. They look like little evil clown faces.

I counted in 4 hours on friday. So 28 Saturday and Sunday. About 6 hours of sleep and 2 hours or so just messing around each day. Its over now though so back to studying just a couple of hours a day.

Seriously, you guys are worrying me. I am afraid I forgot how to study... I mean, I graduated in December and didn't do anything really academic in the meantime. All these posts about medical school studying really worry me.

Plus, I wonder if my undergrad actually prepared me for medical school...

Dude...you'll be fine. The first few weeks are a shock, then you're good. Promise. It's a lot of work though. Especially around exam time, but thats to be expected. The material actually isnt too difficult, there's just a **** ton of stuff is all and it takes a lot of time to go through it.
