😕

Are they doing the thing where you have to remember which functional groups on each base h-bonds to which other functional groups? I remember from molecular bio something about wacky alternative base pairings and the teacher was really anal about us being able to draw each base & the correct h-bond configurations for the pairings...I have remembered none of it.

Yes. Everything you glossed over in undergrad will be put back on the table this time in excrutiating detail. Only problem is the prof may spend 30 secs on it and you will need to go home and put those details into your brain...well enough that you can manipulate it if presented in a novel way on an exam.

Oh, also you will need to understand how these H bond donor/acceptors on the bases will interact with NUMEROUS (like 50+) DNA binding proteins.

Sorry, early morning rant...been up since 5:30am studying this *ish

Histology is a part of our systems block, and, even then, I think it's going to be a crash course and not nearly as comprehensive as whatever it is you're learning. I'm assuming the superior-most part of that slide is the neural tube? lol #whoknows

One course down...

A bunch to go.

Passed the final exam today and get to start immuno/heme/lymph tomorrow.

Wow, this thread was almost off the first page...

I am disappoint.

Spent all day yesterday innertubing through a river canyon. Today I finally ordered my anatomy textbooks. On Monday, Orientation. One more weekend!

Sounds like a quality use of time. Apparently I am going rafting/camping this weekend, which sounds awesome.

Also, the Hogwarts shirts have almost hit their minimum amount to print!

Textbooks. Lol.

This is the computer age.

This thread will be like an online time capsule come 2017. That seems like forever away.

How is it I can put in more hours of studying and still get less done?

I think that I can somewhat do this...

+1. But still can't get all of it. You can totally spot all the different mesoderm layers though.

An aside, I think I might be allergic to formaldehyde. I've been getting small itchy patches of skin and my airway has been super scratchy after lab lately...boo.

Ugh histology and anatomy don't start until September here, you guys are not making me excited...

I just found out that classes officially start on September 3rd and the first test is September 6th... I guess we are hitting the ground running.

Ugh. Two questions away from honors. The struggle is so real right. Drinking away my sorrows.

Strange, I hate you right now. I was several questions away from honors. Drink one for me my friend, because it is back to the grindstone for this guy.

Haha... yeah that's kind of harsh.

Although my first exam is on 8 weeks of material. I'm actually kind of terrified. I only have 9 tests to pass before taking step 1 :scared:

I have only 5 left hopefully passed one of them last week :xf::xf::xf:

So a huge chunk of my financial aid package is a scholarship & a subsidized loan that the school doesn't actually decide on until late in fall term. My school also doesn't give us an actual tuition invoice until next week, which means I also can't access a large outside scholarship that I have coming. And my loans are only big enough to fill the gap left by my projected resources (which the school doesn't have yet), so they don't cover nearly enough. I did a bunch of careful budgeting before & now I can't tell how much I'll be able to spend on things like food next month. I don't even see how I can pay my tuition bill.

Stuff like this makes me occasionally wonder if I should have held out on the Mayo waitlist a little longer...

Finally got the anatomy lab pre-handout on what we should do before the first lab.

Guess what, I already know all of it. Boom! I am starting to feel a lot better about the lab portion of anatomy.

The downside is I also got told when I have to get another PPD (the school requires another one over the one already required for matriculating). Because my last name is near the end of the alphabet, I get to wait until 3:45 PM to get it done. The last one is given at 4:00 PM. That's like 3.75 hours of waiting while the rest of my classmates get to have it over and done with quickly. More time to study, I guess...

I hated my pre-anatomy handout. I was enjoying life and traveling when I received it, a real buzz kill. Haha

One class is over! About to go out with classmates to get heavily intoxicated! This is what med school is about.
