Yeah, I really need to read more about GT/FC, but it seems like Anki is hard to beat, especially considering how reliable it is.

Yeah, I'll probably use my laptop or a tablet/iPad to make them. I'll have to figure out roughly how much time I can realistically spend on making/reviewing cards each day, but I figure something like 2-3 hours is do-able. What I really like about the idea of reviewing cards is that you can review while doing other things. Like waiting in line, or resting between sets at the gym, etc. I'm actually pretty excited to try it... it seems like something that could be seriously beneficial as long as I'm consistent.

A few years ago, I made a ~$90 purchase knowing it would give me an overdraft fee. What I did NOT know is that my bank would rearrange the order in which it processed my purchases so that the ~$90 purchase would go through BEFORE some previous $4 and $5 dollar purchases I had made. (Yes, I use my debit card for everything). Long story short, I was charged an overdraft fee for each of these purchases even though I had sufficient funds to make all but the last (and biggest) one. I called my bank several times over a period of days to appeal to their humanity (slash ask them why the eff they processed the most expensive purchase first). Each time I called, their "system was down" and so they couldn't see what the overdraft fees were, but they gave me some bs story about how they always process the biggest charges first because they figure they are the most important. I swore up and down that I would quit that bank for being such a POS. Four years later, and I'm still a customer 😳

To play devil's advocate:

I used to work for a bank. It's pretty much the same anywhere you go.

Banks process all transactions after a certain cutoff time. They hard-process them over night (in business days). All credits, regardless of the order you made them in, are applied first. Then all debits, again independent of what order you made them in, are applied. Furthermore, both credits and debits are applied in descending order, i.e., largest to smallest.

Their reasoning is: if you make a payment on, say, your mortgage, you would prefer to have that paid before several smaller charges.

It's been a while, and banking regulations have changed, so I dunno what they do now.

Thanks for the inside info 🙂 I think that's similar to the explanation they gave me four years ago, but it confuses me because it's not like they're "bouncing" any of the debits anyway. If, say, they were actually going to reject my mortgage payment if they processed it after the smaller expenses, I'd understand the rationale of prioritizing it. In the end, though, I'm still the doofus who overdrew in the first place 😳

Haha southwest. I was, like a total douche, wearing my SOM shirt. Oddly enough the lady who was serving drinks had a nephew that went to school there. She hooked me up all flight hahaha!
 
I outfitted my entire family and my best friend like 2 days after my acceptance.....yeah I was pumped come at me! Hahaha

You people need to get a credit union ASAP. I had BOA and they charged me an overdraft fee. I quit them immediately. Now if I have an overdraft I just call and they take it off. BOSS

OMG I am seething with anger over what BoA did to me the other day. I had to make a student loan payment and found out it was declined. I knew that shouldn't be the case since I got paid on Tuesday. I look at my account and see that it was overdrafted by like $300 😱😱😱 (i have other bills that are automatically taken out of my account after my paydays). So I, very angrily, let BoA know whats going on. Apparently they had reversed my directly deposited paycheck because they didn't think it was an actual deposit despite me having direct deposit for the past 5 months. It just doesn't make any sense, especially their other things like overdraft protection (where they take money from my savings to go to my checking when I'm in danger of overdraft, but then charge me when it happens making me overdraft anyway defeating the purpose). I'd leave them if I didn't have a credit card I need to pay off.

I only have a BoA credit card that I pay off in full every month... Should I be switching?? I like my 3% cash back on gas....

I'm particularly fond of my costco amex combined with my BoA cash back card I get 3% on gas, 2% on restaurants, travel and groceries, and 1% on everything else. Gas, restaurants, and groceries make up the majority of my purchases so I'm pretty content.

That's awesome!

The med frat house at UW apparently also has parties but I don't think the EtOH is free.

Speaking of EtOH, do you guys know if lab EtOH is drinkable? I said it was but would taste horrible and someone else in my lab said that something is added to make it undrinkable. I thought 100% EtOH that is used in the lab was pure alcohol.

Never mind, apparently methanol is also in lab grade EtOH. I don't want to be blind, so no cheap drinks!

:laugh: I never even thought about it considering all the damn acrylamide, azos, benzenes, MeOH, etc that's in the lab and inevitably contaminated the EtOH bottles. ::shudder::
