Okay, let me get this straight...because I have NO idea what class I *might* be because I started undergrad last Spring...so technically I am 17 credits ahead of those starting this Fall.

Hypothetically...
Spring-Summer-Fall 2011 (32 creds)
Spring-Summer-Fall 2012
Spring-Summer-Fall 2013
Spring-Summer-Fall 2014

Which means I *should* have the credits necessary to graduate at the end of Dec 2014. Which happens to be 132 b/c of my minor.

Then I use 2015 to finalize work on MCAT studies and EC's and applying to med school. Which means that if accepted, I would start med school in 2016, making me a part of the class of 2019. Am I correct in this logic? Being a freshie and having just decided to actually go to med school a few months ago, I am still new to the entire process and how long things take and yada, yada, yada lol.

Regardless...I'm joining this thread 😛

Let me check your math on that...

Fall 2016 + 4 years of med school = 2020

😱

Which is why I asked. But how could I be behind those who haven't even started yet? Wouldn't that mean that I would be ahead and more suited for 2018 and not 2020?

As stated before, I don't know exact time lines in regards to apply for med school. I just assumed that since I am slightly ahead and don't need to take that last Spring semester that other undergrads will...because I started two semesters before them. Of course I'm going off the OP who said
Ok. Here it goes. I know that most 2019ers haven't even started undergrad yet, but it's never too early to get started, right?

Mods, if you think this is inappropriate, please feel free to lock it. SDN community, if you think it's too early, please let it die.

And best of luck to all the 2019ers starting school in a couple of weeks.

I might have goofed in my earlier post, I believe it should have said 2015 and not 2016. I got a bit ahead of myself there. I was assuming that you apply for med school after you have received your undergrad degree. If it is before you graduate, then yes, I would be correct in my assumptions that I will belong to the class of 2019.

If you manage to graduate early, then yes. But you said that you would use 2015 (I assumed the whole 12 months) to beef up your app and THEN apply to medical schools, which led me to think that you would be C.O. 2020 instead of 2019. But I can see you corrected yourself. Yes you do apply before you graduate.

rather live till 70 and actually eat amazingly ****ty stuff than live to 90 and eat nothing yummy 😛

Well, actually I start to feel bad when I eat crappy. Like I prefer healthy foods over junk now. Plus, you get to look good to 90 then fat to 70.👍

Same here. I feel like I'm about to throw up if I eat fast food and I have a burning sensation in the back of my throat whenever I drink soda because of all the sugar. It's amazing how much we've been accustomed to eat unhealthy for the sake of convenience.

~glues herself to this thread~ 😍

Yay! Another 2019er!

hello plastic surgery

Mmmm Mmmmmmmmm 😀

Idk, I'm prob going to stick w/ it 1st sem to see how I like it. But if the premed advisors say it'd better to do Bio or other things occur then yeah I'll prob switch. Why do you ask?

you'll find out soon enough THAT NOBODY GIVES A **** WHAT YOUR MAJOR IS. Seriously: golden advice here! I've been on SDN since 09, and thats what everyone will tell you. It's ALLL about your GPA. Do yourself the biggest favor ever and do something you A) like B) will get you the highest GPA EVER. Trust me on this one dude!

yeah like looking through mdapps, two numbers are important: gpa and mcat. major is rarely asked. it's much easier to be a "run-of-the-mill" guy major-wise who 4.0's something decent like bio, rather than trying to justify your lower gpa as somebody who tries to distinguish himself academically with a hard major

once you're in the top echelon of gpa and mcat, you're gonna need to distinguish yourself by other means. i.e. when "what makes you cool" comes up in the interview, you can't go "uhhhh, notice that my 3.8 is in bme... so that kinda makes me cool"

not to say you won't do other things as a bme, but realistically you'll probably have less time

i dunno though, that's just what i think. you might wanna try out a basic bme course to see if it's gonna be worth it. that's what i'm doing with biostat. edit: oh ok yeah that's what you're doing too

Yeah, the only thing I'm taking right now which is diff then the Bio path 1st sem is a Intro to BME course. Yeah, I see what you mean, so I'm good b/c I'm sure I have the cool stuff for separation already.

this process is weird cause the academic bio, chem, and physics are so important. like to score at least low 30s you need to know that stuff at a very deep level, and you prepped for it throughout your entire college career by beasting your science classes. but you can't be like "so oh yeah, i triple major in bio/chem/phys, naturally." instead you've gotta play it cool like you're a chillaxin easy-peasy bio major with a lotta diverse interests and leadership roles who just happened to nail a 35+ mcat. but how many chillax easy-peasy high-gpa bio majors are there, totally enjoying their college experience, who score low-mid 20s? tons. and those guys are hosed. the line is pretty fine.

edit: well it's probably not as bad as i say (i recall there being a chart somewhere with gpa/mcat/acceptance rates) but you get my drift

Integrative Neuroscience major Represent 😀, seriously though, this is the best major I could find for me.

😕 thats what I want to get into..

When you become one, can you give me free surgery? Pls..?

Yayness. You're finally on the path to becoming another bio major just like the rest of us.

it's basically biology/psychology major combined. It used to be called Psychobiology, but they changed the name for some reason to Integrative Neuroscience.

Sarcasm much?

Very chill. I would have loved to do something like that if my university offered it. When does college start for you?

Seems like the start date for many places. I move in this Wed.

That sounds fun! 😍 psychology!

I wanted to study psychology (and criminology) my first trip down the college road; something about being a profiler was attractive, until I discovered that I dislike guns. This time I went back to my original dream, MFM.

Hey, I have an idea. I am curious, and you might be curious too, about others in our class and their major and speciality goal.

My major is simple, biology with a minor in spanish. I hope to specialize in maternal fetal medicine, but at least become an ob/gyn.

straight bio bro reportin in. i just hope i ace bio 101. i move in saturday.

btw, i'm now president and founder of the straight bio bros club. holla if ya want in

Isn't Bio 101 for non-science majors or am I mistaken?

If it isn't, don't worry you'll do just fine. 😀

eh its the general biology with a ton of pre-meds and science majors. my prof has a reputation of being pretty thorough as far as preparation for further study in bio goes. thing is it's impossible to figure out how difficult these intro courses really are. so many people speak of em like the end of the world. but when 7% or so of the class gets an A you have to wonder if you're overestimating yourself

I am a fan of looking up my profs on rateyourprofessor.com. It really does help with the selection process. Of course, this doesn't apply if you don't have a choice because of scheduling.

yeah seriously. already scoped out my competition at orientation. i can take em

just checked, it's 9%. another 8% get A-'s but straight bio bros can't have that can we. so it's not bad

actually i'm pretty lucky to be in the class at all. usually all the sections are closed since classes start pretty soon. yesterday i was just browsing around and one seat was open. i enrolled in that thing so fast i got whiplash

the professor is pretty tough (according to ratemyprofs, myedu) but i don't really have a choice. people say you'll learn biology really well from her. that's why i'm taking the class anyway, to master the fundamentals. i coulda skipped out with ap credit, but i'd be screwed for the mcat

Of course. Plastic surgery for everyone!

Sure why not?
Again, I'm warning you right now, and hopefully in a couple of months you'll come back to me..and say 'yeah you're right, f*ck this, I'm doing a history major'..you've just been warned 😛

That's gotta be a really lucrative market in California for Plastics.

No it won't. Think about the competition. There are way too many plastic surgeons in California especially LA,so going there to start up your own business is suicide. Not only are you competing with too many plastic surgeons, but also you're competing among established plastic surgeons as well. Their reputations alone would knock you out of the business market.

instead of plastics pick a lifestyle specialization (40-50 hour weeks). then invest your way up to 7 digits in your spare time

nahhh, people are always in need of plastics here..that theory is completely wrong. 😛 i know plenty of new docs who plant an office in the hills and do really well
