Class of 2020!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I have only taken a practice MCAT (old version) and I found A&P to be very helpful. I have taken intro psych, but I think that is a subject that may be easier to self teach.
You may want to wait for more replies, because I am not an MCAT/med school expert by any means 🙂

Lol yeah. I want to get a couple of opinions before I decide what to do. At my university Bio majors are not required to take A&P but we do have to take outrageous classes like botany & such. But's it's harder to squish in courses that I actually need.

Botany was awful for me! (I got a D... first D in my life 🙁) We were not required to take A&P either, but I am so happy that I did, it was worth it.
Good luck figuring it out! And study hard for botany.. :bang:

Awww Yeah I took botany last semester tho...It was definitely a learning experience, seeing that I am allergic to most plants but yeah it was tough. Thanks for all the helpful tips!

Hello everyone! I'm a bit late to the party but ill be here with you guys rest of the way! Im non trad 24 years old with B.Sbusiness. taking up pre-requisites now and plan on taking the mcat January. I have read a few other posts about possible studying in the summer to take it twice before the change to mcat. This is also a viable option.

Good luck to everyone this year and happy studies!

The January exam is the 2015 MCAT version right? Don't you guys feel that is rushing it a bit?

Hey guys!

I am a sophomore applying in 2015 for 2016 matriculation.
I have plans to take the August 15th MCAT. I am staying away from the 2015 MCAT because 1) The prereqs will be fresh 2) The new MCAT is undiscovered territory (e.i. No tips, advice etc.)
If anyone else has plans for an August 15th MCAT let me know!!!

Can't wait to see how these next couple of years pan out of us! Keep going strong guys

It seems like it's both a positive and negative that we're kind of forced to take the 2015 MCAT.
-First time takers could kind of explain why there is such a huge difference between MCAT score and GPA.
-psych and sociology seem like gifts added into the exam and taking out a chunk of physics sounds amazing to me.

going to go for Jan 2015 MCAT for me. right after biochem so its fresh in my mind etc

good luck!

I'm taking my MCAT in Jan 2015 as well. However, you should know that all dates offered in Jan 2015 will all be the old version of the MCAT. The 2015 version doesn't start until May 2015 🙂

I'm personally a fan of the changes, but I'm not a fan of taking a new test no one really knows anything about. I thought about taking the new version since I have to take biochem for my major anyway, but I changed my mind when I realized that the first exam wouldn't be offered until May.

It's really up to you, though. I would do whatever you feel most comfortable with.

I'm also taking the old MCAT instead of the new one, but I will still be taking classes like psychology, sociology, and biochem.

I'm a non-traditional URM applying summer 2015 hoping to matriculate in 2016. I'll be 25 at the time of application. Got a lot of work between now and then!
Same man and our age is identical. I will start my mcat studying very soon

Just wondering what is the most common undergraduate major on this thread? If I would have known that I wanted to pursue med school when I graduated high school, I would have probably done microbiology or biochemistry, but am doing electrical engineering instead.

It's probably Biology.

I am a biology major with a microbiology minor.
Is anyone else taking the November 8th MCAT?

Do you mean November 7th, 2014 in the morning? If so, then yes - anything to avoid 2015.

Edit: Wrong thread.

My sister is doing that and thinking about being a premed. I don't think it's a very common thing though.
It isn't and I'm finding out its a lot harder! But u do save lots of money

Ahh good for you. I don't think high school me would have been as responsible about grades as present me is... 😳

P.S. Hey everyone! I would be in the class of 2020 except my degree program is five years long. The class of 2021 thread is so empty though 🙁

What is the latest date that an application would still be considered an early application? If that makes any sense lol

We are a little far out from applying. Lol
But applying mid August, September gets to be fairly late.

Gonna do a March 2015 MCAT (Might as well take it right after the new one comes out...maybe admissions committees will have pity on us haha). Going to start studying in September!!! Starting to panic

What are you all doing this summer? Any current junior gap-year-ers?

Nope.... Definitely not planning on a gap year.

This summer I will be working with my PI on a few papers, a grant, and my own original research all the while studying for my MCAT that's August 7th.
Quite a busy summer!

What's everyone else doing?

I'll be doing HIV research through JHU SIP and studying for the August MCAT :bookworm:

Hey, I'm joining this thread too! I'm a non-traditional, will be 26 when I apply. Health Science major, have only one semester after this one, will graduate in December. Trying to find some research to get involved in this summer. Taking the MCAT August 21st, thursday befor school starts back up. Ordering my study materials as we speak actually! Currently working in a allied health position (no one will ever guess. haha) full time as well as taking 15 credits, fun stuff.

Hopefully I'll see some of you in class or residency in a few years!

I plan to continue scribe work for 10-20 hours each week, research around 10 hours each week, and SN2ED prep for the MCAT on August 21st!

That's too soon, I would stress to much under the time constraint

Current MCAT for sure. I don't see the appeal for taking the new 7 hr test....

Why not take it this fall? Take this summer to study for it! I hope someone will study beside me with SN2ed 3-month plan!!! 🙂

Oh cool! I'm scheduled for the august 7th MCAT and so I'll be starting the schedule May 7th.
You'll be right behind me though with the 21st so maybe we can hash out some problems if we run into trouble 😉

I haven't taken my core classes yet since I switched majors, I guess I could try....

Ohhhh ok. That explains why you might put it off then.

On a related note, I will be taking my MCAT without having taken physics 2. I plan on self teaching myself the material this summer though....

Thaaaaaaaaaaaat's me! Been sticking with the 2019 thread but figured it's time to move here. Will be in DC working at a think tank on economic policy!

How's everyone's summer? Getting hot in the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic region :grumpy::grumpy::grumpy::grumpy:

I live in the Northeast... Without air conditioning 🙁 We moved up from the south so we thought the north wouldn't get too hot in the summer, therefore we didn't install air conditioning in our house when we first moved in :/
