Classes in Geological Sciences factored into Science GPA?

Hello SDN,

I was wondering are classes in Geological Sciences factored into your Science GPA for applying to Dental School? I am trying to formulate my schedule for next semester, and I might want to take some courses in Geological Sciences if they can potentially help my Science GPA.

My geology course was not factored in, unfortunately. I love geology. =p

I am confused. If it falls under the "Other Science" category as is detailed in the list shouldn't it be factored into the Science GPA?

Maybe it depends of whether or not the course is with a lab component.
But the standard science GPA that the schools consider contains chemistry, physics, biology, and math. Even economics (which has a lot of math factored in) is not factored in. Same applies to social science, which is not factored in. Geology is in the grey area. My bet from experience is that it would not be factored in.

Either way, a geology course is not an impressive way to raise your science GPA. Schools would prefer seeing upper level bio or chem courses.

Oh, so do Dental Schools only look at your BCPM GPA and not your Science GPA? I thought they put more priority on viewing the Science GPA as a whole, and whenever I read these forums people are always mentioning their Science GPA's, but is the BCPM the more important one? What shows up to them when they look at your profile? I am sorry. I am just trying to navigate all this.

When you submit your AADSAS application, there will be a thousand different combinations of GPA that dental schools will be able to see.

Don't panic, but these are all the GPAs AADSAS calculates =p

The admissions definitely value BCPM more in my knowledge, since those are the skills you need in dent school.
