I was just finishing up the Biological Diversity chapter and was thinking the plants section in it was possibly too detailed as it is. THEN, I noticed there's a whole long chapter dedicated to plants. Is this out of the scope of the DAT or is it really necessary to know all these details as well? Browsing through the chapter, I noticed numerous terms that I've never encountered while earning my Biology degree and Biomedical Science Masters lol...any help would be appreciated - thanks in advance!

Also, according to ADA's site for material tested, it seems as if plants aren't heavily stressed anywhere, but rather just mentioned under " Biological Organization and Relationship of Major Taxa" which leads me to believe that intricately detailed chapter on Plants is out of the DAT scope? Maybe I'm just being lazy? lol

Biology (40)
Cell and Molecular Biology - origin of life, cell metabolism (including photosynthesis/ enzymology, cellular processes, thermodynamics, organelle structure and function, mitosis/meiosis, cell structure, and experimental cell biology
Diversity of Life: Biological Organization and Relationship of Major Taxa (Six-Kingdom, Three-Domain System) – plantae, animalia, protista, fungi, eubacteria (bacteria), archae, etc.
Structure and Function of Systems - integumentary, skeletal, muscular, circulatory, immunological, digestive, respiratory, urinary, nervous/senses, endocrine, reproductive, etc.
Developmental Biology - fertilization, descriptive embryology, developmental mechanisms, and experimental embryology
Genetics - molecular genetics, human genetics, classical genetics, chromosomal genetics, and genetic technology
Evolution, Ecology, and Behavior - natural selection, population genetics/speciation, cladistics, population and community ecology, ecosystems, and animal behavior (including social behavior).

I remember 1 tough question involving plants on my DAT. I remember my gen bio 2 classes being roughly the same as the Cliff's AP so I don't know what to say as to that end. Plants are not heavily emphasized on the DAT so you could probably spend your time more efficiently studying higher yield topics but for a really high bio score you will want to know plants thoroughly as well.

Just know differences between angiosperm, gymnosperms and monocots and dicots. Know the components of the vascular system and what each one transports.
