Hey all,
Before I get flamed, I did try to search for this and read several responses, but would still like to present my reasoning behind why I chose to do this the way I did.
I have volunteered in 3 different clinical settings. I know people say that you should show commitment and spend a long time wherever you volunteer, but medicine is so widespread that I felt it would be beneficial to gain exposure to some unique settings. For example, I have done a year of volunteering in an outpatient setting, a year in an emergency room setting, and a semester in a clinical research settings. I am also planning to do some clinical work with under-served populations soon. These were all good experiences and showed me different aspects of clinical involvement. So I guess my question is whether this will be frowned upon or if this was a good reason to do things the way I did? Thanks a ton guys.
(Note: I would have done longer times at each but I started late and went abroad at points.)

If you explain your reasoning (like you just did) in your application I don't see why it would be frowned upon, but maybe you should consider continuing at least one of the volunteer experiences while you build up others

Also, don't forget to do some non-clinical volunteer work as well.

Two gigs of a year each plus clinical research (and whatever else you get in) will be viewed as more than fine.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I guess my biggest concern is that I am seeing people with upwards of 1000 hours of clinical experience and I won't have nearly that. Hopefully I can use some of the diversity of experiences I have had to my advantage.
The only reason I can't continue the 1 year stints is that I took time off school one semester and went abroad, and I plan to go again for the summer, so they were saying that if I'm only back for a semester it'll take at least a month or two to reprocess me through everything. That'll only leave about a month or two for actual volunteering so it may not be worth it. I have been tutoring and doing a couple of other non-medically related volunteering activities, and to be honest, I actually find these more rewarding than most clinical stuff.
Anyway thanks again for all the help.
