I was wondering if having a position like CNA, tech, or scribe superseded the need for clinical volunteering given that those jobs provides a net positive for both the healthcare industry as well as the applicant or is their some absolute, unspoken requirement that medical school applicants spend >100 hours folding blankets or other tasks for no pay? I understand the need to indicate altruism in a non-clinical setting and have enjoyed working on such projects in the past, but I was wondering about this aspect of clinical volunteering.

So long as you interacted with patients, it doesn't matter. Getting a job in the field is perfect.

Altruism is not limited to clinical volunteering. You can show it through your other ECs.

I was told that it didn't matter how I got my clinical experience, so 100% of my clinical hours come from my current job as a Psych Tech. I think you're good as well. 🙂
