If you are doing vertebral augmentation and haven't yet seen the following e-mail from ASIPP, this should interest you.

Dear Friends:

Novitas has published a Draft LCD on vertebral augmentation which is in contradiction to the open CAC meeting held several months ago. Further, it does not follow many of the requirements of the Medicare Integrity Manual. We are concerned about the following:

1. Inclusion criteria eliminating subacute fractures

2. Periosteal infiltration to be performed prior to augmentation procedure.

3. Multidisciplinary team which requires approval by 4 physicians, one of them is a neurologist.

4. Exclusion criteria

Please look over the attached letter, which is being presented to Novitas. This letter will be signed by all states societies, CAC members, and the ASIPP board. You can also sign onto this letter or you can send an individual letter. There is no restriction on who can sign, any person who will be

affected remotely in any of the aspects can sign it. It also does not require to be a physician.

It is crucial that we get as many signatures as possible added as soon as possible. On the other hand, you can also send individual letters either way. If you want to send an individual letter, please keep it to less than one page emphasizing the important points. This is an extremely time sensitive issue.

We need to receive your response to us by January 22, 2020 for your name to be added to the letter. Click on the following link to add your name to the letter: Signature Permission

Additionally, some of the Novitas state CAC members will be attending the upcoming CAC meeting in person and others by telephone to present the evidence. You are also encouraged to attend this open CAC meeting. The open CAC meeting can be attended by anyone

We encourage everyone to attend the open CAC meeting in person or by phone. The date and all that information will be sent to you soon, which is different for each state. It can be found on Novitas website also.

Thank you for your help. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us for comments or questions.

Kudos to ASIPP for stepping up.

Link says I took survey but I didn't! Time sensitive and they provide a broken link?!

What does a neurologist have to add to a discussion about vertebral compression fractures? I was not aware they had any potential role in active management.
