Dude, this process ****ing blows. I am angry for you all.
Yeah. And it wasn't like they made it easy. ERAS message with an attachment, which meant no info in the actual email that got forwarded to my phone. Of course, that site barely loads on mobile, so once I found my computer and logged into that site and opened the message and then clicked the attachment... pardon me for being in a time crunch and responding personally instead of reading 2.5 pages of pdf to see the one line where they mentioned using the ERAS scheduler. Dunno how this is going to work on days when I'm actually, you know, busy being a surgical intern.

Welp, got my only II of the season so far. Emailed back in 3min flat, but apparently was supposed to schedule in the ERAS system (who actually uses the ERAS scheduler?!) so...by the time they emailed me back to correct me, there weren't even any waitlist slots left. 30min, tops.

FML. This season is going to BLOW.

It wasn't this bad last year. Close, but not this bad.
Maybe it’s different this year but all of mine have been through ERAS scheduler except one through thalamus. It sucks. I’m on a rotation right now and have to be pretty much constantly staring at my phone/watch to make sure I’m not missing something

Last year I had maybe 2 use ERAS scheduler out of 16 offers. And no thalamus. Whereas my ED friends were like 95% thalamus. And lord only knows for IM/Gyn/peds, etc

Just strategically assigned my fourth letter so programs that passed me over in the first wave over the past week have a chance to remember I exist and a reason to take a second look at my app.

Do they get a notification every time we update our letters or personal statement? If so I probably annoyed the heck out of them then lol

my understanding is they do get notified anytime we assign something new to them. Not positive about modifications To personal info though.

Any idea what to wear for a pre-interview Q&A with residents the night before an interview? I'm planning on wearing a button down shirt and slacks.

n = 1 but the one I went to there were some applicants dressed up (some sports jackets, some ties) and some were straight chillin in their normal clothes. The residents were in normal clothes/scrubs.

Might be program-dependent; these peeps were really chill.

I have no idea but was wondering this myself. Is it going to be a zoom call the night before? So strange, wish I could skip that.
Yeah... I am about to jump on my second one of these and it just sucks. It essentially extends the interview to two days. Programs that want to have a resident portion should just put a segment in on interview day in my opinion. Not a whole lot of "social" aspect to zoom.....

Was greatly looking forward to the pre-interview dinners as it is a forte for me.... Now I am dreading zoom "not an interview but totally an awkward interview" fake social night stuff. The interview day is going to be weird enough as it is. I don't care how much charisma you have, there is nothing ****ing cool about a zoom lobby where we ask each other dumb **** for 5 minutes to show we can play nice. Ahhhh

and yet I think I'd still rather have this than nothing. Only chance we're gonna have to assess "fit" at all this year

Would it be unprofessional to use wired Apple headphones during interview? Are most people using computer speakers?
I dont think it would be unprofessional. Even when you look at the news reporters from their homes they have wired earphones in.
I am wearing something like this.

and hiding the wire behind me just in case.

Im using legit big headphones. over the ear. I doubt it actually matters.
I'm gonna try to use no headphones but if its necessary I'm pulling out gaming ones with the mic and everything. A few of the virtual open houses had PDs and other people using them so I think its good to have a backup plan

They should do Among Us rooms with Discord video chats for pre-interview socials. It'll really bring out the @$$holes, and the quiet ones will actually shine for once...
