Hey,

I'm color-blind. Will this prevent me of becoming a doctor?

Is there any other disabilities that are no-no for doctor-wannabes?

Thanks.

I have a classmate that is color blind. It made some parts of histology more difficult (especially blood), but it doesn't affect his ability to become a physician.

They won't let you read guiacs (sp?)...but there are plenty of successful doctors who are color blind. One thing you'll learn is to be more sensitive to cyanosis and jaundice than other doctors, and every so often you may want to call a colleague over to consult on something color-related. Not a big deal, though...just be open...we're all trained medical professionals here (or will be...).

Good luck!

We had a classmate that is colorblind and he passed Histology just fine, though it was probably a bit difficult, it is doable.

It did make certain moments funny: like in a histology practical "such and such cell typically has a "reddish-granular appearance" LOL.

But he will be a fine doctor.
And I would definitely be open about it with classmates.
Good luck.:D

Thank goodness, was worried this was another affirmative action thread

;)

You'll be fine. My uncle is colorblind and he is a successful pathologist.
