Sean Spellman told us that he thought decisions would go out via email on March 20. Now, I have never been great at math, but I think that is only 12 days from now. He told us not to pass along the information, but what 200 or so other people in the grand scheme of things?

So, here is a thread to let the anxiety and neuroses fly!

COUNT ME IN!!!! I hate waiting, but it is so much better to have a date! You are my hero!

Good luck gdbaby!

He said the 21st is the official date but decisions MIGHT go out a day earlier.

12 is my lucky number so I am sticking with 12 days from now. Hmmmm....what to do with the time.... Think about things I could have/should have said in my interviews. Definitely should have taken my top off when they asked "what should I go back and tell the admissions committee about you?"

Count me in on the counting down of the days of counting...

Last year this time I was so nervous I couldn't get any work done. This year we have the GCMAS submission deadline on the 15th. Four papers being submitted from our lab, and since I'm the author that's the furthest along, I've been recruited to help everyone else write theirs. It's amazing how much time can be sunk into just 2 pages. I have no time to be worried!

gd, I know you did great! I'm pulling for you....
Good to hear from you Shy. I am pulling for you too since I beleive it is only a few short weeks before VCU will be sending you love!

I am waiting as well. I thought they were meeting on 3/15? All these adcoms and their promises are starting to bleed together...I'm just so tired of waiting to hear from schools. I know you all feel the same. 🙁

Good luck, gdbaby. I've secretly been rooting for you the whole time. But I was also rooting for Shyrem to get into CU as well, so maybe I should just stop rooting for people because I think it fosters bad luck. Sorry if my well-wishing has kept anyone out of their intended school - I didn't mean it. 🙁

Dr. Sondheimer told us they are meeting on 3/17. Thanks LW, I will still take your support. One person does not a sample size make, unless of course you are an anthropologist (like me!).

Has time all but stopped for some of you? I only applied to five schools and I was turned down by four of them. Since so much is riding on CU's decision, I don't think I have waited in anticipation for something so much. The forums have been both informative and an addictive curse. Every day that passes by makes me think my application sucks and therefore my chances are nill. Anyways, I thought I would express my neuroses that have developed lately. I hope it doesn't add any more apprehension to the situation.

Mile High,

It's been said before, but I think that always staring at the stats/acceptances of SDNers gives an unfair light to the admissions process. SDN tends to be scewed to the higher end of the spectrum, so don't get down about it! Besides, we all have some major neuoses as well! Twelve days isn't bad....we can do it! 👍

Ha ha ha...yes! I can feeeel you anger!

Seriously, it helps me to vent to an appreciative audience. Having lots of work (like deadlines!) also helps you think of other things and pass the time. Last year I was in the same position and it was much worse. Get busy, stay busy, and the time will fly.

A question for you all:

Much has happened in my professional life since my interview (12/2). Do you think that it's wise to send CU an update about what I'm doing? I don't want to be the one who gets rejected for sending extraneous info. Does anyone have insight into whether or not a status update would be viewed in a positive light? Or should I just let the chips fall where they may, and stop worrying about it?

I'll throw my hat in the ring, but for various reasons I'm not too confident about getting in...

I don't know if my mdapp's link will be posted with my signature here, but I am about as average as they come. My MCATs were poo and I am a geriatric. No worries, no fear. This whole process amazes and scares the scat out of me at the same time.

I can't even think about UCHSC without getting really nervous and stressed about waiting. My subconscious is even stressed, last night I had a dream that I yelled at my best friend for getting in (neither of us have heard back yet). Oh CU, why must we wait?

I left with the feeling that once those numeric scores are given to your app, there isn't much to change their decisions. That being said, I don't think they will flag you as a "problem" applicant so go for it! Sean stated that if you are waitlisted, to keep them updated and check in regularly. So, why not start updating them now?

Thanks, gd. Of course, this could just be a thinly veiled attempt at sabotaging my application.... :meanie:

I'm kidding. I'm sure you're geniune, and I thank you for your response. I think I'll do it! 12 days and counting!!

I've also had a lot happen in the 9 months since submitting my AMCAS and I sent them an update right after the first of the year. I've heard from the CU admissions office that any extra materials will be put in your file, but that doesn't garauntee that they will be read by anyone. I believe that once you've interviewed and assigned a score, there really isn't much you can do to change your ranking.

BTW, part of my nervousness stems from the fact that I was 10 minutes late for the interviews at CU(and I wasn't the latest!). While Sean had the group laughing about how my interview score would only be affected 'slightly', I was lauging, but deep down I was cursing myself to hell for being late. Although they said it would shed no reflection on my overall evualtion, it still sucks to come into an interview room with 29 faces staring at you and then about a 5-minute standup performance from Sean about your lateness. And if you were in my interview group you probably remember (Jan. 23rd!).

Look at that face in my avatar. Would that face try to sabotage you? Your sleep perhaps, but not your application!

I don't think you have to be nervous about this. There were people late at my interview date, and they got the same stand up routine - I doubt he even remembers who was late and who wasn't by the end of the day. I was really nervous because one of my interviewers was 10 min late, so I got a 20 min interview instead of a 30 min one, and I really didn't get all my strengths across.

Perhaps ruin a clean kitchen, too?

Cajun, there's somebody like that in EVERY session. In my session, not only were a few people late, but one guy who didn't show up at all. The important thing is to be there during the interviews - If you didn't keep the interviewers waiting, then nothing else matters. I wouldn't stress out even if you missed the Dean's description of the school. So relax - None of the admissions office personnel can affect your interview score.

Get back in the Maryland thread, you!

To the rest of you (😉), good luck on what I'm sure is an excruciating wait!

Goodluck ya'll. Looks like we'll be future classmates. UCLA just said no thanks. Denver here I come! Hope to see some of you at second look day.

Does anyone remember when second look day is? I was freakin out when Dr. Sondheimer told us.

GDBaby I've been waiting to hear about your CU interview since it happened!!
Glad to know you won't have to wait too long to get that acceptance letter - just think what a pain in would have been to have had your interview in October and still be waiting!?! Good luck - I can't wait to hear the good news!

I swear, gd, one of us should be goin' to CU. It's not gonna be me (obviously) so it better be you! 🙂

I think the Colorado interview went very well. I was more impressed than I thought I would be. But I also noticed how many people in the current class are reapplicants. Many other applicants stated that they some of their interviewers eluded to the fact that they may have to reapply.

It woud really stink if I get waitlisted since then I would have to make some sort of deadline whereby my family and I decide to pack up, sell the house and move to Iowa. So, let's keep out fingers crossed for a straight-up acceptance.

Shy, how's the weather on the Western slope? Bad here yesterday, but today it will be 50. Then bad again for the rest of the week. I guess it is time for that March snow we've been waiting for!

I can relate to the decision-making window. I'm one of the really lucky folks who got to interview nice and early...only to wait five months for ANY sort of contact. I fell so lucky to have other options, but if I don't get in to CU we have to sell our house and the SO has to find a new job. Making matters worse, his place of work is doing lay offs, so he can't even start nosing around for a transfer, if he does, they'll know he might be getting out of there and he'll get canned. So the wait continues. I think I'd rather have a straight rejection than be on the second third of that waitlist. If I got in after I already moved to Cleveland, I would be one frustrated girl!

Yeah, my SO and I already decided that if I am on the 2nd third of that waitlist, were are going to Iowa for sure.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know the odds at each third of the waitlist?

First third: You will get in
Second third: The real waitlist, you might get in, or not
Third third: Basically a rejection

gd, weather was rainy yesterday with periods of snow (but our local ski resort got 12 inches of powder!! 🙂 ), today periods of snow. Should snow on and off for the next 6 days, highs in the 40s at best. Unusual - we've been colder than the front range this year. Usually we're quite a bit warmer.

As for moving - I know what you're going through. We've pretty much decided that the one school we're waiting on over here has until May 30 to accept me, or we're going to Maine for DO school. Gotta have deadlines when you have a family and a house to move.

I'm rooting for you, gd. :luck:

My girlfriend and I had the talk last night and we had agreed that if I got on the 2nd third or lower we'd think about other plans. We are lucky because we have time on our side. We both have stable jobs and we have time to look for other options. But if I get 2nd third, then we're going to assume I won't get in and look for other options.

There's the pre-med day, but I think that has already passed - I remember it being just after first of the month last year.

Sorry I meant 'pre-orientation day' which is 4/21.

Yikes. That's the same day as Iowa's. Boy, I hope the decision is an easy one.

Anybody else waiting to hear from Colorado and not have a SO????

i can't imagine the difficulty in coordinating more then one person's next 4 years, but i'm feeling a little out numbered here.

Lol, fishtacos. I'm waiting to hear from CO, and I don't have a SO. That's 2 against...um....I can't count.

Hi, I'm new to this forum thing, but I just wanted to say I am also waiting to hear from CU! It's now only 11 scary days left. I wish the best of luck to everyone!

Welcome to the craziness, cockiness, and cacophony that is SDN. When did you interview?

I interviewed on February 27th, so I have had a much shorter wait than you all. It's better at least to have a date instead of just leaving us hanging. When did you interview?

On THE LAST DAY--March 3. The whole staff couldn't have been more giddy. Sean may have been drunk already, hard to say. I can't see your location info from this screen--where in CO are you from?

Myself and disprague interviewed on Dec 9th - we've been waiting 17 weeks.

Today makes 10 days until notification, which, in binary, also happens to represent the smallest prime number.

I actually interviewed middle of November... 14th I think.

I know what you mean. There seems to be alot of people who already have their life in order. I think stress of coordinating a SO's and/or familiy's future is part of the reason they are overrepresented on the forums. They need the support and I don't envy their position.
