Tuition cost aside, what do you guys think about the two schools in terms of patient availability, national board preparedness, specialty matching, pros, cons, etc.

Really need some incite. Thanks!

[I've already made a thread at the predental forums, but thought it would be good to get an idea here as well]

I go to Colorado my class has people that got accepted into every specialty program. I think we had 3 perio, 3 OS, 1 ortho, 4 peds and lots of GPR's. School is very nice but there is a shortage of patients and my class was only 50 the new classes are 80+. Overall I think the program is ok, my only beef would be the 40+ international students that most classes you are pooled with. They wont tell you that in the interview.

I go to UMKC. Patient availability is pretty good and compared to some other schools I have seen around, the requirements seem to be fair/reasonably achievable. Our national boards pass rate is very high. I only know of one person that failed part 1, no one failed part 2 that I know of, and 1 person failed the endo part of WREBs. Our class is about 100, but I know that some of the other classes have a bit of a larger class size (110?). Specialty matching this year was very good. Like the Colorado student above, every specialty got matched in our class this year. I can think of only 3 people that applied to specialty programs that didn't match out of approximately 20 or so people that attempted to specialize. My biggest complaint is that the administration does not seem to listen to students concerns- definitely not something they will tell you during your interview and such. A pro to UMKC for you might also be a low cost of living. Compared to many other areas, rent and other living costs are pretty cheap. Good luck on your decision!
