ive already decided im not getting in. ok fine. thats fine. i didnt get in ok whatever. next. arhjelkajgalkfdjaldjghh! i cant take this anymore! stupid stupid stupid mail.

I'm just going by past year's trends. Acceptances are sent via priority mail and waitlists/rejections are first class.

Yeah, if they do mail them tomorrow, then many of us should know by the end of the weekend. This is gonna be a slow end-of-week....😳

Hmm. Well, according to usps.com both priority and first class should get to me on Saturday....which means I'm spending most of Saturday cowering in bed and forcing someone else to check the mail.

Wow. I thought that February has been agonizing....but March is going to be much, much worse.

Are we sure about tomorrow? I called recently (i.e. a few hours ago) and was told Friday.

This is what angers me. Different people call and are told different things on the same day. What day is it? Honestly, why can't there be a uniform procedure/answer.

I don't know, I'd like it to be tomorrow, but given the way the mudphud acceptances were sent out, I'm thinking we'll have to wait until Monday/Tuesday as well. 👎

Anyone have some extra Valium?

haha... no. columbia is not interested in aiding anybody. >:]

I've heard of people getting full (merit-based) scholarships from Columbia.

Not to fuel the fire or anything, but...
If you read over one of last year's columbia acceptance threads, there was one person who said they got an acceptance call the night before the acceptances were mailed out.

aw, now that's just mean 🙁

. . . but hopefully entertaining for us spectators 🙂

So wait a minute... they are physically mailing the letters on Friday... meaning we don't receive them until Saturday??? ..that's when I leave the country for a week for Spring Break 🙁

Yeaaaaaah... that would be pretty swell (and a ginormous load off) but I'm not exactly sitting by the phone or anything. It's either a BS post or there was something very unique about the applicant (super great stats, PI's knew each other well, etc).

Physically mailing them on either Thursday or Friday. If it's Friday, Saturday would be the absolute earliest anyone would hear (NYC/NJ kids). Otherwise, it's Monday/Tuesday for the rest of us. yippie!

Edit: Why don't you have a friend check your mail for you and email you any updates? Hopefully you have some loser friends (like me) who don't do anything during SB.

admissions office told me march 1st. i wouldn't worry about the non-medical related interviews, none of the interviews here i know of discussed medical issues. good luck, hope to see you guys at revisit.

You, sir, are an inspiration. A lot of kids from my hometown went to/go to Lehigh.

Central-PA school represent. 👍

1300 interviews for 300 acceptances... This is not going to be fun.

for real towelie? for some reason i was sure columbia didn't give merit aid. i hope i'm wrong.
i live about 50 blocks from p&s, if only i could just go pick up that letter....has anyone else started to go gray over the last few months?

Not gray, but I've noticed a little balding.

Just called admissions and was told that all decisions would be sent out by tomorrow by regular mail not priority. I'm assuming that means some decisions will be sent out today, maybe they're going out alphabetically. I think its funny how much different information I've heard about decisions.

BAH! Why must they change tradition?

Yeah, I called today too, and was told letters were being sent out Friday. Also, if you are like me, and leaving the country for the next week, and your mail gets sent to your campus residence, you don't find out til you get back b/c they absolutely will not tell you over the phone (which was to be expected, but still... 🙁)

Now I think that they're just toying with us....

can you imagine being a postal worker? you'd go to work one day--picking up mail at columbia, and then ONE day out of the year, it's like, here you go! 8,000 letters to be mailed, please! i almost feel bad for him. almost.

hey, was your Columbia packet sent priority or regular mail for the MD/PhD program?

it was sent priority mail. i live in a dorm, so mail must be sorted...i bet that's why some people got it on sunday/monday, but i didn't get it until tuesday...

1300 interviews for 300 acceptances... Monday is going to be a sad day. 👎

I know this is a little weird, but this is something I've been wondering for awhile. Sometimes when I call a school I'll get completely different information than my friends who call on the same day/within a couple days of my call. I wonder if there is really that much misinformation floating around the admissions office or if the news we receive is in anyway indicative of the news we will hear. Every time I've called a school, they've requested my name/interviewer's name/date interviewed or something along those lines, so I suppose they could pull up my information and tell me something based on what they see in my file.

I don't know. 🙁 👎

Btw I love your avatar 🙂 Mne ochen' nravitsya cookie monster 😉 You're Russian, right? Anyway, in terms of the information--I called Columbia in the AM; the other guy in the PM and he got the message the letters were going out a day later. My interpretation: the letter date got postponed later in the day. Best of luck all! 🙂

Spasiba. 🙂

Nyet...k sozheleniyu, ya ne russkaya. 🙁

I like your interpretation better. *sigh* if only they had kept to schedule.

Lets all pretend that the letters are to be shipped Monday. ok good, now I feel better.

I think admission office attendants are more interested with minimizing hysteria rather than being completely truthful. For example, when I called Baylor in mid December and asked if they had finished giving out acceptances for the calendar year and the lady told me flat out "yes, no more for this year". About a week and a half later, I got a phone call saying I had been accepted. The exact same thing happened to me re: Cornell early acceptances.

Unfortunately it seems like acceptances, waitlists, and rejections are all sent out at different times (or with different mailing priority), so it's possible that we may never get no more than a guesstimation on when our letter will arrive. I personally think acceptances will still arrive Priority, and waitlists and rejections will arrive by standard mail but I guess I'll just have to wait to find out.

I completely agree on that. I guess it's Monday then.

Thank god I've got some new games to occupy myself with over the weekend. 😎

Hmmm...or maybe acceptances were mailed today, and the rest go out tomorrow. Bah. I'm with spatulas, and am going to assume the worst (both in terms of news and when the news will arrive).

I think it's also in the interest of secretaries to just get applicants off the phone as quickly as possible....

so i contacted the admissions office today to change my address and asked if it was too late to change it- the person i talked to said it would be just fine because all the mailings will have gone out by tomorrow...

and ALL the mailings? BY tomorrow? (sorry I've been neurotic all day about this) so all 1300 acceptances/rejections/waitlists will be sent out?

So what's the final word? Friday or Monday?

I'm officially not giving up hope until next Thursday.

As of now, we aren't sure if its snail/priority, if they were truly sent yesterday, some sent today/yesterday, all sent today.

I am not expecting anything until Wed, possibly Thurs next week. Ok phew, now I just have to repeat that mantra 1000000x so I can convince myself that there is no point of being anxious this weekend.

Nobody is brave enough to call the office today, huh? (Hey, don't look at me. I'm as chicken as the rest of them!)

I JUST GOT IT.

Well, I live in NYC and I just got a pretty big priority mail acceptance letter.
