Columbia

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
haha you guys are trying too hard to make sense of everything. I'm telling you, its really random.

If some acceptances didn't go out until Monday, then it's possible that people could be getting packets on Thursday. There's still hope, guys. :luck:

Just ran home from lab for a minute to check the mail. Received the Priority Mail package in Boston, MA today, 4:30PM.

You guys on this thread are some of the best-spirited people I've interacted with on SDN. I really wish everyone still waiting the best of luck, and congratulations to everyone on all their acceptances so far! 😎

Woohoo!! Congrats!

I think you're right. Although I do think there's a chance they just saved the rejections for last.

Hey can you tell when it was postmarked? I hope you're enjoying the post-acceptance glow!

Thinking logically, we need to find somebody who received an acceptance packet today that was postmarked on monday to validate our acceptance sent late theory.
Similarly, if people received acceptances tomorrow that has been postmarked on monday, then the rest of us might still have a chance.

Or, it could simply be that they sent all the rejections out on monday. I know the adoffice said differently, but i'm going to be a skeptic on this one.

Yeah, I talked to the admissions office and even though she said "everything was finished yesterday," I got the feeling that she was being intentionally vague. I'm resigned to not getting in, I'd just like to hold my rejection/waitlist in my hand.

Reasonably speaking, its likely that they waited to send the rejection letters last. Either way, I am still going to try and be hopeful despite what my instincts tell me. Good luck everyone! USPS website said that it would take 2 days for a package to come to my house from NYC, so I will update you all if I get anything tomorrow.

hey guys, don't know if this helps, but i'm in the NYC area and just got the waitlist letter (postmarked Friday) today. good luck to everyone! (and those of you lucky enough to get accepted -- please withdraw lol)

Nothing yet for me either here in CA :scared: We haven't heard that much from Californians in this thread, though! Do you guys think there might still be some sort of priority mail delay thing over to the west coast?? Ugh...!! sounds like a thin envelope for me...

I wouldn't give up on California yet. Priority mail could take a few days to get there. I just don't thing it'd take this long to get to me in the Midwest. Good luck you guys!

My friend in the Bay Area got the priority package on monday, i am in southern CA and still havent heard anything

Yeah, I feel like us Southern Californians have been left in the dark!

First post here! I'm in the NYC area and haven't heard either. I think that they kept the rejections for monday as nobody seems to have been rejected yet on here...

another so cal here with nothing ....

but columbia tends not to accept many so calers .... 🙁

It'll be interesting to see who gets the first rejection. Since they use regular mail, the first people in NYC should get it perhaps tomorrow?

I guess they haven't heard of 'California Love'....after the disappointment of checking my mail yesterday, I am resigning to the fact I will be getting a thin letter....but I can still be happy knowing I will be on the beach this weekend and NYC will be cold....okay not that happy, but it does help.

WAIT LIST!

Guess it is better than the rejection I was expecting.

Anybody know the details of how Columbia runs its waitlist? (i.e. will they tell you your rank, how many do they wait list, are we screwed, etc.?)

I haven't actually seen my waitlist letter, had my roommate open it since I'm at my little lady's, but he said it said something about being "very highly ranked"... though obviously not highly enough to be accepted directly. I think there's a letter I hafta return if I want to accept a spot on the waitlist. That what everyone else who's been waitlisted got?

Yea I got the same thing.

Waitlist came today in the Chicago area.

All these waitlist notifications leads me to believe that they waited until Monday to send out rejections which explains why some people who are relatively close distance wise to P&S haven't been getting anything in th email :/ I hope this isn't the case. 🙁

Well, when someone called earlier the woman in the admissions office specifically said that they sent out acceptances as well on Monday.

I'm of the mind that acceptances, rejections and waistlists were jumbled up and went out 1/2 on Fri. and 1/2 on Mon., with no rhyme or reason to it. Also my interview invitation took quite a while to reach me in the county here so...I'm keeping my hopes up though it is likely pointless.

There is a clear rhythm. No rejections were sent on friday. Deathnote.

I guess we'll know more tomorrow. If I do get a rejection, at least I'll have a bit of closure.

Just so you can remove that "(?)" beside my name: I do in fact live in Manhattan.

I bet it's all about the number of nodes/distributing centers that the mail has to go through. Along these lines, I wonder if there might be one or two extra nodes going from New York City to LA than to the Bay Area. Depending on the degree of intermediate sorting... the extra nodes could make a significant difference (maybe?). Then getting the mail to the rural areas, there's probably a regional node in a big city that has to go out to one of the sub-regional sites... then a local site, etc. In short, there's still hope, and we can't put too much significance on the date.

I wonder if any other school inspires this much conjecture...

Haha, thanks for the encouragement. You'd be a great classmate to have around finals!

Same dienekes. I remember you got waitlisted for Sinai. Uh, now I'm sick to my stomach with Columbia rejection/waitlist probability. If only this was easy, eh?

seriously ... can we plz move this to notifications online ..... thatd be so much easier than having to stalk the mail each day!!!!

I was scared of my mailbox for the vast majority of this year... good news tends not to come in the mail (with the exception of Columbia)

So who's going to race me for the first rejection? My mailman's pretty punctual...

I'm keepin my fingers crossed for you today! (not for a rejection of course)

Thanks! One thing that's giving me a semblance of hope is that you haven't heard yet. With an application like yours, I'm sure you've got an acceptance on the way!

Good luck to those still waiting. I hope priority mail is being a little slow

toughcookies, i have never seen anyone want anything as badly as you want columbia. I didn't even get an interview there, but i've been glancing at this thread occassionally because so many people i like have been here anxiously awaiting news. If for some reason you get waitlisted, i think you should include a link to this thread as your LOI! I think you're the only person i've seen who i felt wanted a certain school as badly as i want cornell and sinai. I empathize with you so strongly and am keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Yeah, good luck to everyone who's still waiting to hear back! 🙂

Hey Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear. Does anyone know if you send back the offer acceptance form to Columbia whether your decision is binding or can you rescind the acceptance later? Thanks

Haha, actually I don't even want it that badly. It's not my first choice. I've just literally got NOTHING to do right now except wait for it. Seriously. And unlike other people, this is the only decision I'm expecting for the next few weeks. But thanks for the support! And good luck with Cornell and Mt. Sinai!

It is my first choice 🙄 Seriously, we should just sent this thread's URL to Dean Frantz!

Hahaha. Thanks! I do what I can.

le sigh... Mount Sinai. I was still hopeful until I got that waitlist (after 16 rejections, it was my second waitlist). That left me pretty down and out. A rare case of "wow, **** is hitting the fan" from me. I think that carried over a bit into this thread.

I smell an acceptance out there. Ms. Cleo and I combined our psychic powers to determine this. It's like a Captain Planet thing. When our powers combine... some dude with a sweet mullet shows up and tells us when acceptances will arrive.

:luck: :luck:
