hey guys i got rejected from dental school 2 years ago my gpa was 2.8 and dat 17 overall........dedided to go for my masters to improve my gpa since i also got rejected from some post bac programs (very discouraged at that point)......2 years later i'm ready to graduate with a masters in science(concentration physiology) if everything goes well after finals my gpa for graduate school would be around 3.7 ........ one question?? what schools do you guys think i should apply i know all schools are competitive at this point but i was just wondering since the june 1st application cycle will start soon........... once they combine my gpas i guess my gpa will still be low so do you guys think dental schools will put more emphasis on my graduate records???? let me know what you guys think.......i will be taking my dats again at the end of august.......thanks guys

first off, great job on your masters. Also, did you retake or are you planning to retake the DAT? It looks like that is a necessity. For schools, you should go on predents and use that drop down list to see the lowest GPA schools and I would apply to those. I guess all the expensive Tufts, NYU kind of schools. Retake though definitely. Best of luck 🙂

thanks ive worked my ass off to be able to pull that gpa up as much as i can...taking into consideration i´m still working......... like i said i will retake my dats on august and hopefully will do better........... i just dont have much money nowadays you know with the economic crisis going on i just want to apply to schools where realistically i may have a shot....... thanks for your imput......

Yeah I feel ya. I don't want to waste money either. Go on predents and look at people with similar GPA's/masters. Look where they got into and got interviews at. Only apply to those that you have a realistic shot at. I think that extra two years shows serious dedication to this field and I am sure that will be an enormous addition to your application. Good luck!

Hello DanBarr,

I am in the same boat as you are. My undergraduate GPA is 2.61 and my MBA GPA 3.7. I plan on taking the DAT in August/September. Do you think I have a chance if I receive a DAT score of 18-22?

Rhonda

I hope all of you are planning to get your application in early and at least use your old scores. I've noticed a theme with late applications and rejection. Try for June. July at the latest for the best advantage.

Good job with the post bachelors gpa, if you can try to have the application in before you take the dat and schools will just be waiting for it when your ready to take it. Good luck!
