Hi,
I'm in the middle of wrapping up my move to my new state. It's a big adjustment with the time change and everything, I have taken the practice test, did COMQUEST question bank, read some of the book.

I don't anticipate having a lot of free time after next week. As I have to go to orientation, set up etc.

I really want to get this exam over and done with, because all I need to do is pass. In my opinion, there is a 60% chance of me passing as it stands. I don't think I will get a lot more time to study during any rotation than what I have had so far. I was wondering if I take the test, and god forbid, do not pass, can my residency program suspend me? In my contract, I was only suppose to take it by end of PGY1, but must pass it by end of PGY2.

I am going in with a positive mindset, but since I'm not too big on taking risks, I just wanted to know. FYI, the program will not reimburse me for the cost of the exam, and they will not provide additional study time other than vacation (which I can't take during the first month for some reason).

I really don't want this hanging over my head because I have to focus on becoming a good efficient intern as well as the in training exams, etc.

Thanks

If you did well on COMLEX Level 2, you will pass COMLEX Level 3. They are not very much different. I took mine before intern year started and did just fine. If I were you I'd make sure to pass it the first time (review for a few days especially OMM if that's a weak area) before the start of intern year so you won't have to worry about all of this and you'll be able to focus on residency.

Thanks the thing is, I did pretty lousy on Level 2, 150 points lower than my COMSAE. I think it had to do with the fact that I delayed it too long (took it in August of last year), plus I was going to the rest room due o anxiety.

I've done COMQUEST once, and am repeating it again. For OMM, I am trying to read the green book, but I am such a slow reader.

I also read the Kaplan areas on MTB step 3 which were weak for me.

As someone who has taken step 3 as an intern, Ic an tell you the exam has changed and there are questions on management (Meds, imaging etc) that I felt I would not have done well if I were a med student. Just my 2 cents.
