I recently learned that my school will not write a committee letter to more than 1x reapplicants to med school. What do you do if you get into this position?

I applied without a committee letter although my school does write one. I was able to explain why on most of my secondary letters .. didn’t seem to be much of a difference. I’d presume it’s the same for reapplicants.

The thing is I have a committee letter this cycle, but I'm just thinking about if I don't get in this cycle, reapply and don't get in next cycle, I'm f'd right?

Don’t think like that. Give 100% on your app and don’t half ass anything. You’re setting yourself up for failure with that mentality.

You're right, I just have a tendency to think about the worst case scenario haha.

Happened to me a lot through undergrad. There’s a difference between having a backup plan and needless worry. Just do your best, give it 100%

If you apply twice and don't get in, you might be f'ed but not because you can't get a committee letter for your third try. Don't apply the first time unless you are sure that your application is the best it can be and puts you squarely in the top 40% of all applicants (or higher). Do it right and you'll only have to do it once.

I appreciate the advice, though I already applied this cycle. I've gotten a few iis, but have heard nothing from 15+ schools I've applied to.. is this common?

Thanks.

I'm in the same boat as you, have about 17 schools I'm still waiting on!

Yes. Many schools will be silent forever, or until they matriculate a class in 2019. They will string you along with the expectation that they can tap you late in the cycle if their cycle goes to hell and they need matriculants. This is as likely as the Chicago Bulls winning a national championship this year... highly unlikely, but it could happen.
