I've heard that if you take any sciences at a community college most Med-schools won't accept those science credits. If thats the case then I'd have to wait till my junior year to begin taking the required classes. By not taking these classes till my junior year would put me behind and I wouldn't be prepared for the MCAT.

Got any suggestions?

No they accept them minus maybe 1 or 2 exceptions I'm not really sure.

They do accept them... And its a cheaper way to finish with science courses...

I've already graduated from the uni and I'm doing all my pre-reqs at a couple of community colleges because I can't afford the $4000 a year anymore. The only way that those classes would look non-rigorous is if you get a low MCAT. Get a high MCAT to show them that you did indeed earn those As and Bs from rigorous courses. However, I've read on some med school website pages that it is suggested that you don't take the pre-reqs at community colleges. I'm not sure if it's because the med school thinks that you won't be prepared enough for the MCAT and that they're just looking out for you or if they are really uptight and snooty when it comes to non-uni coursework.

Why not check on the schools you'd most want to attend and get their opinions. If it says nothing on their website, then call the admissions office and ask. Many schools will say that as long as you get great grades and do well on the MCAT, they don't mind about CC credits. But keep in mind, if the classes are too easy, your GPA will be terrific, but you won't be well prepared for the MCAT.

If your favorite schools do discriminate, then keep in mind that you're not in a race to get into med school. If you need to get in an extra year of college before you're ready to apply, well it's only one more year and some extra tuition money.

Does your CC offer an honors program? If so, taking your prereqs as honors classes might remove some of the "stigma" associated with CC classes.

Ef that, dont take honors classes.. you may very well end up shooting your self in the foot with that one.

ALL US Medschools accept science credits from JC's, as they understand that often times there are classes required to transfer. As other posters of suggested, get A's and perform on the MCAT. Thats as simple as it is.

But what HAS been known to look fishy, is going somewhere outside of your current 4 year institution ( such as a CC ) to complete the same courses you have access to at your school. ( Unless of course you are non-trad and going back to school)

what if you decided to take a course at a state university because its $2000 cheaper? ($2700 vs $800) lol

They accept them.

Then wouldn't you have started at the junior college?

What about summer school-type cases. For example every class I want to take over summer at my school (4 units) is 690+100 registration fee and it's rising every year. Sometimes it's just too much money 🙁

Look, I am not saying I condone the behavior of admissions committees or agree with it. I am simply reiterating what a few minutes of research has lead me to believe. Of course I could always be wrong.

You could always email the school and ask them too..
