When is the deadline for the alt. lender ish?

hey COMP class of 2008-

I am currently a MS1 at COMP (2wks. short of being a second year) and I just wanted to say congrats on your acceptances. I want to reassure you that COMP is a great place to be, I have really enjoyed my year here. I also wanted to say hello to all of the students who will be in the summer anatomy program; I am a TA fro the ISAC program, so I will get to meet you all soon. If you have any questions about the anatomy program or COMP in general I am more than happy to answer any of them (PM me or whatever). Have a great summer, don't worry about doing anything to prepare for school, you will get everythnig you need when you get to class, so have a great time doing nothing! Get excited about what is ahead of you, it is really an amazing experience.

Hey kat, thanks for the post. It's good to see another student happy at COMP. We've seen enough that complained about it. 🙂

the deadline is before you start. i guess you should get on it though, just to make sure you have all your money before school starts. i keep on forgetting that all you peeps have like a whole summer before you start, whereas i have about 4 weeks. from today. eek.

Friedcfood- Congrats for getting in. I stop by every now and then depending on how my rotations schedule is to say hi to everyone on campus. Seems that over the last few years, I've made a lot of friends besides DO students.. PharmD students, PA students, professors, docs, secretaries, other staff, administrators, etc. It's nice to feel that with whatever chaos seems to be happening at the time, there are lots of good people around.
--------------------------------------------
Kat- Kat is definitely happy all the time. You can tell by her photogenic face on all the pics her classmates take of her!

I move in to my new spot in Phillips Ranch in like 2 weeks...WOW...it's all coming together now!

June 5th in fine by me!! I'm so curious to meet all you Kooky characters. I have a feeling that we're gonna have a really fun class. Medical school doesn't HAVE to be torture...we can make it fun! 😀

Hey guys..I haven't gotten my financial aid award letter yet? Do you get it in the snail mail or by e-mail? Should I be worried?

Also, since I just got back from my international internship, I totally missed the roommate form we're suppose to have turned in by last week. whoops! 🙄 Any ladies out there need a roomie to share a 2bdr/2bath? I haven't started looking yet and have no clue where I'll live but all I know is roommates make life cheaper! 🙂

June 5th sounds good to me. I might be having a birthday party/ housewarming as we just inherited a house. I can't wait to meet all you peeps.

I also gave my 2 week notice at work today. That's gonna be a change- I've worked non-stop since I was 15.

ooooooohhhhhhhhhh! I can't make it on June 5th! ( Not to be selfish or anything..) but can we choose any other day?!!! I really like to meet everyone, and will be sad to miss it!!!! how about June 12th? 🙁

Hey slickness! I noticed that you were tryin' to be all sly and SLICK and change your screen name on us and think we wouldn't notice...but I noticed! 😉 How's it going? Are you for sure at COMP this fall? Hope so!

See you guys on June 12th...I'm puttin' it on my calendar so don't change it PLEASE!!!! Where are we meetin'? Downtown Disney? For dinner, coffee, a drink, gamblin'? What are we doing?

Well I am still not completely sure on COMP but I'm probably going. I'm already looking for apartments and stuff. How about you?

 Yea I'm a guy. I decided to change my name since I'm going to be a doctor and figure I need a less immature look. 👍

Hey Melancholy, could you tell us which hospitals you've rotated at already and where you plan to rotate? You can pm me if you want. I'm curious.

Well Slick...I'm also not FOR SURE about COMP. The waitlists I care about are Drew and UCLA. I'm priority waitlisted at UCLA so there's a kinda-good chance I might get off of it. But then again it IS UCLA and so I don't think the waitlist movement will be that great so I don't know yet.

I'm also still holding onto my SLU acceptance but I DOUBT I'll go there. Western is WAY BETTER in my eyes..and much sunnier too! 😎

But I don't know when to start looking for apartments? Should I start now or in July? Also, I need a roomie cuz that'll be more cost-effective!

AND I haven't even gotten my financial aid award yet! I'm worried. 😕

Well you can get on a couple of waitlists for apartments just in case. Also you should have received it already on your western email account. Are you sure you sent in your FAFSA to western?

Hey Melancholy, could you tell us which hospitals you've rotated at already and where you plan to rotate? You can pm me if you want. I'm curious.

Hey "Slickness"- Which hospitals I've rotated through so far? Let's see:
- Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC) in Colton, CA
- Doctor's Hospital Medical Center of Montclair (DHMC) in Montclair, CA
- Corona Regional Medical Center in Corona, CA (acutally a private pediatrics preceptor who worked for Riverside Medical Clinic)
- Riverside County Regional Medical Center (RCRMC) in Moreno Valley, CA
- Patton State Hospital in San Bernardino, CA

As far as where I plan to rotate in the future, I will probably do one or two more rotations at ARMC because it is relatively closeby and you get a pretty good county experience there. I'll probably do a few out-of-state rotations either in NorCal or in New England... and then, not sure really. Due to my offset rotation schedule, I have a little more time to plan out my rotations so I haven't quite gotten down most of my 4th year schedule like others.

Glad to hear that you are probably going to end up at COMP (just like Lewi25). One general thought I'd mention is that once you figure out where you are definitely going, be committed to it and try not to have any second thoughts. I know this had plagued a few students in the past for whatever reasons (some who openly stated that COMP was their last choice) and it probably dampened their experiences early on in medical school although I think at this point in time, most have tried to make the most of their med school experience so far. One of the best things to remember no matter what situation we end up being in is that sometimes we never get what we want, but making the best of the situation truly shows character among other admirable traits.

Anyway, sorry to blabber on, but I just wanted to pass on a little bit of advice that I thought might be helpful to some. Probably won't be able to make these weekend dates in June for get-togethers, but I will catch y'all sooner or later.

For those who cannot make it to the June 12th meeting, i was thinking of throwing a get together in July when I find a house to rent. A chill BBQ to get to know people. Probably in the third or fourth week of July.

Thanks for the info Melancholy. Yes I know if I go to COMP I will be happy and work my hardest. 👍

Days typically start between 8-10AM. We get an hour lunch at noon and then later, the classes end around 3-5. Each day is different regarding what classes you take so when they give you a schedule, keep it with you at all times so you can refer to it. If not, don't worry, they have it posted on blackboard. Tests are normally on Mondays, but on a few occasions, they can be on THursdays, and a select few are on the other three days.

I'm goign up there to visit my gf. So yea...I'll be on lock down =( *sniff sniff* as my gf always monopolizes all my available time whenever we see each other. Don't do long distance relationships! They suck! Save yourseeeeeelf.....

But let me know what your plans are, I might be able to escape for a bit  Maybe we can go clubbing. Woohoo!!!

I'll be up there on May 28 to June 6.

how long is summer break after first year?

Hey Septro
I'll be on a mini vacation myself for Memorial weekend but I'll be back in the area for the following weekend if you and risar want to go out and you can bring the girlfriend!

Happy Birthday Dr. Jack!!

Hello to all my COMP homies. 😀 I finally turned in my acceptance letter (and check). It was a tough decision, but I am very glad to attend COMP. I have already moved my little family down here (living with my 'rich' brother in his nice new huge house until my wife finds a teaching position and we find a home/condo to get into). Just thought I would say hi and hope we all have fun at COMP. 😉

thanks everyone for the birthday wishes for me and mr. t. i shall begin rocking the deuce seven come friday, just in time to be in line with the average class age.

and for all of you unable to make it, i'll drink a vodka tonic in your honor (extra lime of course).

did any other ISACers get the registration info? i haven't gotten anything yet.

and adapt, what's with the circle jerk of negative DO posts that cropped up this weekend? i'm feeling your pain- they seem to be out for your blood, and nobody is saying anything new. it's the standard "wah!! i'm not happy and therefore no one else will be either!". those are the same folks that tell us not to go into medicine, and they'd be unhappy shi*s as lawyers too.

 Yea i think it's sad. Thanks for your support though. Unfortunately, those are the future DOs of America. Hopefully, the COMP class of 2008 won't have the same bitterness.

Happy bday by the way. I guess ISAC is right around the corner for you. Crazy. It's almost here.

I got the ISAC registration stuff last week. Just some random forms you gotta fill out. Looks like our first day on Wed June 9th will be a get to know each other and orientation day.

yeah, saw that post. With every DO I talked to, they were never bashed by MD's. No one even bothers to make the distinction between the two. I think pre-DO/MD's and maybe MD/DO's in training are more obsessed with US vs. Them crap. I don't really care what people say...action speaks louder than words.

Btw....hoppy Birthday Dr. Jack! 🙂 :d
