so which one are you seputro? i was the one that spent most of today sitting in the back row, wanting to hide under the desks and cry for my mommy. i'm rarely that shy, but it felt so scary not to know ANYONE- it was on par with my first day of kindergarten.

Awe...don't be shy...we're all one big DO family now.
😍

feeling a bit left out not being in class with you all. Do you think they'd let me sit in once in awhile? lolz.

Hey ISACers, are ya'll just using Netters Atlas of Anat...or a textbook along with Netters...if you are using a textbook, which one is it. I am actually so bored I am thinking of doing the SMSPP

(Also it seems as if everyone has disappeared into the ESPN ZONE....)

we're using netter, plus clinically oriented anatomy by moore and dalley. they tol dus to get grant's dissector, but i haven;t used it once. i also supplement with mc minn atlas and a medical dictionary. both stedman' and netter come in cd-rom form.

do SMSPP and hopefully next semester will be cake for you. better to alleviate that boredom now and not fail later.

Thanks for the info and advice Dr. Jack 👍 , I do believe that I will be doing SMSPP..now I'm kind of regretting not doing ISAC 🙁 ...Oh well...more time with my kid before I miss him growing up completely.

Hi guys,

Dr. Jack is right in terms of books, Netter is really good, and clinical anatomy by Moore too (it's like your main text book). But most of the time you study Dr. Bales's notes and powerpoint lectures (they're pretty detailed).

Ryan I think it's good to enjoy your 'last' 🙂 free time w/ your kids. Don't worry about not taking ISAC (it's a very fast and intense class). In 2 days of lecture we covered all back muscled (w/ main nerves and vessels), scapular/sholder region, and pectoral region (w/ all main muscles and arteries). The 1st exam is in two weeks, and what I hear it coveres almost 2 exams of the regular semester 🙁 .

I hope it helps,

I am looking for a couple of roomates to share a house near Western (maybe Chino Hills?) I found one 3 bedroom 3 bathroom in Chino Hills for $1900 a month. I would much rather pay $650 with a couple other people and live in a house than pay a grand and live in a complex. If anyone else shares my thoughts, contact me. I don't want to put my e-mail address on here (Spam), but you can contact me by going to my website contact page:
http://www.illshirts.com/contact.htm

By the way, my name is Micah (Male, 23 years old, DO 2008) and I look forward to seeing all of you next year at school. Also, I live in L.A. so I can take care of all the house renting stuff before you get here.

micah did u go to CSUN?

micah-

nice shirts and pants...funny stuff mang.

I'm not familiar with these ant. text books. Been thinking of buying these books ahead of time and browse through them when I have some time. I heard you can buy them at the school bookstore...buts its hella expensive. Was thinking amazon...so, it'll be cool if people taking ISAC can provide us with the ISB.
THANKS!

First of all, it is ill advised to get a grant's dissector. I personally did not use this book at all and if you feel like you need it for dissection, don't worry...there are plenty of old copies in the lab anyways. Another book, (not sure if it was recommended for ISAC) is the Surface Anatomy book. I would not waste my money on these two things.

As a general rule for all books, PLEASE talk to some DO 2007 people first before buying. We will definitely give you a much better deal than the bookstore.

Have fun guys! You can never have too much of it.

Is the some web forum for COMP students to sell old books?

Friedcfood- Sometimes students will just send these mass e-mails advertising selling of their old books. Once in awhile students will post them on the bulletin boards around the commons area. It doesn't hurt to make friends with people in the DO2006 and DO2007 classes at this point to bum books off them. (You may not even have to buy them unless they really want to get rid of them!)

LeemerDO pretty much hit it on the dot. Please talk to the other students (right now probably the ISAC'ers) to see what books are going to be used. Grant's is not necessary, but once in awhile it is useful and they do have all the old and greasy editions on the lab. The surface anatomy book will probably be a waste of money down the line as you will be doing tons of palpation when OP&P (Osteopathic Practices and Principles) gets started up.

As far as getting the anatomy books ahead of time, I don't know what ISAC is using this year, but I would probably think they are using the newest edition of the Netter Atlas and perhaps the Clinical Oriented Anatomy by Moore. (Moore usually doesn't need to be the newest edition, but check on this or have an ISAC'er ask a professor about this.) Netter can also be an old edition although the professors will give you page/plate #'s that may not necessarily correspond between editions, so you will take a little extra time finding the right page at times.

I know ISAC has already started and I have probably missed the ESPNZone thing already. Anyone up to anything towards the end of this week?

You havent missed the ESPNzone event yet! it is on the 26th of June...So see you then.... 🙂

Hey Melancholy, ESPN-zone is a week from this Sat (on the 26th) at 3 PM...can you make it?
-Ryan

Damn, most likely will not be able to get to ESPNZone in time as we have a party down at Newport Beach hosted by the head of the OB/GYN department at Riverside County Regional Medical Center... extremely nice guy, happy at what he does, and a great role model. Hope you guys have fun and I am sure there will be more get-togethers in the future as more make it into town...

Melancholy,
🙁 we will miss you and will have some extra fun for you! 😉 😀

Hey yall, I'm Erik, and I'm coming to WesternU for the 2008 DO class from Huntsville, AL (Huntsvegas to the locals). I'm not a true southerner though, since I grew up in San Jose, CA, so that's probably the last time you'll ever hear me use the word Yall. I'm actually going to be out that way next week to find an appartment; unfortunately, i'm coming home on friday the 25th, so i'll miss the get-together on the 26th. if anyone feels like meeting at some point next week, send me a private message. I'll be making the drive out there july 20. Looking foreward to meeting everyone.

Welcome Fish. 😀

I'm pretty pumped because I finally graduated and I didn't get any Cs this quarter. I guess I'm in the clear after I send in my transcripts to COMP. Hey does anyone know what we have to do to get our loans? I filled out the MPN slip and the two other surveys. Also will they just mail it to our account?

If you check BanWeb, it will tell you what you have left to do. CHeck under financial aid holds. You also need to log on and accept the moneys awarded to you. I think they will e-mail a final letter showing what amount you have borrowed. BTW also check your academic holds, which is separate from the financial aid holds. Academic holds needs to be cleared before you can register july1. I would recommend that everyone check even if you think you're done. They messed up a few times with my stuff. i had to call in several times to clear things up.

Congrats TheFish005! Welcome to comp...look forward to meeting you.

yeah make sure you double check; i had some issues with my immunizations; but they cleared it up pretty quickly and were very nice about it

just make sure things are in order and be aware of things you need to get done

I see. I'll check then. Thanks peeps. 👍

Put my good-faith deposit down last Friday.

Bought my bumper sticker.

Accepted 52K+ in loans today... :scared: I am going to throw up.

See you guys at the ESPN Zone.

GO COMP!

hey JMC MarineCorps, guess I'll see in the Fall! What up to my future classmates!!!!
👍 I hope you guys are ready to rock some ish at Western, but please Adapt, try not to set so many curves, keep it nice and low 😉

late.

Yep, I am setting sail on the COMP 2008 cruise. All aboard!

Actually really looking forward to meeting you guys and making a lot of friends.

One of the most appealing things about COMP (to me that is) is the large non-traditional student base. I think I'll fit in nicely here. Don't get me wrong, I got love for the occasional trads too! 😍

As you can see, I am really busy at work right now! 😴

do i sense a gunner in our mist? 😱

 No I'm not a gunner. There were enough gunners in my undergrad class and I wasn't like them. I'm usually just chill. 👍

dude they called you a gunner! it's all good, nothing wrong with wanting to do your best. I'm very chill, laid back, but I got a little gunner inside of me 😉 anyways, I think what adapt probably means is that the definition of a gunner is more like an as-hole who wants to get 100% all the time, doesnt' share notes, doesn't work well with a group, and probably has wet dreams about their professors......mmmmmmm hey adapt are you sure you are not one of them? hahahah J/k man.

I'm really looking forward to meeting you guys and setting up some cool, intellectually stimluating as well as fun study groups. Afterall, I'm a firm believer that the best way to learn something is by teaching it to somebody else... late

Well by that definition then I'm definitely not a gunner. I'm all for helping others out. 👍

Dr. DOn

Adapt, you are a gunner...now knock it off.

Everybody wants to get a 100%, if they didn't they probably would be pursuing another profession. While it is unreasonable to expect perfection all the time, one should never cease to strive for it. But I'm with you Dr. Don, the whole "won't share notes/materials" is pretty sick. Definitely elitist, anti-social behavior. I'm definitely down to study with a group too.

Anyone in the 626?

jbernet,

They have "bumper stickers" in the campus bookstore...but they're more like window stickers...bumper stickers are "old school."

The guy may not be a gunner, but he's damn informed 😎

Watch this...hey Adapt, do you know where I might find the 2003 match list. I really want to stay in CA, preferably SoCal...are the odds in my favor? Or will I have to bail to the midwest - the wife won't like that!

I think I am going to go and clean off my window, and prep the area where my new COMP window decal will go. Can I get a ceremonial drum roll please. 😉

what's up to all the new people, happy birthday to fried, and adapt, you are so a gunner. 😀 😀 😀 sike dude, i've already been called a gunner by classmates, but in the less negative you're-all-prepared-for-tomorrow's-lecture and-**** connotation. weeeeee, everyone's a gunner!

first test for ISAC in a week's time, and i already forgot the innervation to the teres minor and what that big important thing on the humerus is called. the crazy thing is, my lab group includes both arlsoonDO and donvicious (who only revealed his SDN identity to me yesterday). both are super smart and really nice, as is everyone else in ISAC. now i must go examine the evil scapula and the even more evil clavicle. it's about right now i wish we didn't have arms.

make no mistake, this ish is hard but you're all a bunch of smarties, right?

I would say I keep myself informed. As for the matchlist, I actually posted it somewhere on this thread but don't remember which page. 👍

Drjack, sounds like crazy stuff. I would prefer to get wasted now and study later when the time comes.😀

Have you guys looked for apartments yet? Do you think it's too early? What cities (and impressions) have you checked out (for example, pomona, chino hills, diamond bar, chino, la verne, claremont, montclair)?

Also, what alternative loans have you decided?

There's nothing wrong with being prepared. I've already got all my loans lined up. Went with Citibank for my alternative. Already have my laptop, complete with wireless card and router, as well as my stethoscope (although i should have waited on that... the one at the bookstore looks cheaper... DOH!). And I plan to have an appartment by the end of next week so I can move in by the end of july. My roommates and I have pretty much narrowed it down to one of two places, both in chino hills 4 and 6 miles from campus. Only thing left to do is make sure my car can make the 3K mile trip across country.... not looking foreward to that. thankfully my brother's driving with me and flying home. who wants to sell me furniture? can't fit anything in my tiny 4-door car.

and yes, anyone who actually looks foreward to spending 4 more years in school with the intensity that is med school, is an over-achiever, or gunner as you guys call it.

KenDO and I got an APT in phillips ranch...3.5 miles from school. "THE CREST"

The Crest is NICE. You'll love living there, but will get annoyed driving along Mission Blvd.

From driving on it a couple of times, I don't think there's anything that bad with it but the only bad thing is that first highway light that connects to the 71. The light takes forever to turn green but other than that it's cool. 👍

Well I don't know what you consider massive but if the roomie is cool with it then I don't see why we can't use our spot for the well deserved fiestas that are soon to come. 👍

DO I HEAR PARTY?

I don't know about most of you, but i'm a social learn...study groups is a must. Hope we can form some type of system that will help everyone in the class...lecture notes service, old exams...blah blah blah...stuff like that. I believe they don't curve the scores, so technically we can all get 100%!

And yes, we also need to have parties going on during the school year to keep our sanity. party not just with the DO, but all the other programs...get some inter-program connections going on. 🙄
