a low curve is the only thing that would save me.....🙁 and I was in such a good mood last week....It's alright though, this just means that I gotta step it up a notch (ot two, three, four, you get the point).

Anybody down for a little poker after classes today? We are done by noon right?

 I'm just playing man. I like it. It's kind of addicting though. The only part I don't like is losing money. I'm scheming up new strategies to win and will utilize them next time. :meanie:

Did everyone skip the part where we say who we are in the class?

Remember way back when they told us "Don't get behind!"...now was that physically/mentally possible or was that just somethin' they said so that we could freak out when we felt like 24 hrs. was just not enough time in the day to go to class for 190354857 hrs. and then study for another 9897762 hrs. too!?

ok done venting
back to km and Vmax :meanie:

In the beginning (way back during summer) I would stress out about how much stuff I needed to learn/memorize. But then I saw the light. I soon realized that no matter how much you study, you will never learn it all. Not even the smartest person in class/the world can ever learn everything there is to know about the human body. Do you really think that it took us billions of years to evolve a life form and have it be simple enough to learn in four years? Of course not. Thats why we specialize. Cardiology, internal medicine, OMM... so that we don't have to know everything.

In the end, we just have to try out best, and instead of trying to memorize everything (which we will learn half-ass), we should just learn whatever smaller volume of material we can, but know it really well.

Best to all.

i'm beginning to think it's almost impossible to keep up with everything. here's a great analogy for those that haven't heard it yet...med school is like trying to drink water out of a fire hydrant.

I have applied to a number of schools. I was just wondering what you thought about COMP? I heard from some people that you don't have a dean and that your school is in financial ruins. Someone also showed me this website: http://www.dailybulletin.com/Stories/0,1413,203%7E21481%7E1862979,00.html
Could anyone please give me some feedback about what you think about COMP? Do you like the students? faculty? administration?

You are bringing up one issue - financial status, but asking about another - students, faculty, etc.

Here's an older thread that addresses many of the issues you're asking about:

You can find more threads by searching.

I think keeping up with material is not "impossible", but it means that you cant spend time with family, or partying or plain old slacking off...Now, that is just impossible to do for me...hence...it is impossible for me(and some of you guys!) to keep up! I have realized this and i have made peace... so i am just taking a day at a time! 👍

Sup all,

Does anyone know for the OMM practical, if we get the two techniques, will one always be a soft tissue technique and the other an articulatory technique? Or is it possible to get two soft tissue techniques or two articulatory techniques.

In boot camp we had an old saying "just take it chow to chow." Translation: you have morning chow, afternoon chow and evening chow...each meal was a little victory because you were that much further (farther?, I always get screwed up on that one, anyway) along.

Now, I apply the same mindset to our exams and a lot of times I simply apply it to every single day, just like here atlast said. Just keep your head up and play the game. I take days off when I should be studying to connect with my family, if I didn't, I would be pimped out by the "Man," aka the system.

It would be nice to keep up, but truth be told, every single day we are in class I am about 1 full week or more behind. What can I do, I just keep on trucking along like the rest of you guys.

A note to prospective students; get in while the gettin is good. Our Sophomore class is very good to us and our Frosh class is very tight so things are definitely on the up and up over here. I had a conversation with the Interim Dean yesterday and they have their eye on a very promising candidate...a salty military doc with years of leadership and big budget management experience. Even if he doesn't come here...not having a Dean is a moot point when you have an Interim Dean who is doing a fine job.

Apparently COMP had problems in the past, but honestly, you wouldn't know it now. I don't care to know all the details, because the way it is today seems to be working fine so I don't dig...if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Life is good: I am in medical school, I have my family and we have our health (knock on wood).

?La vida buena, verdad?

Sup moto! Just putting it down the only way I know how. When you are ready to leave that small pond in Texas and come run with the big dawgs in Cali let me know..l'll take care of you 🙂

JMC, thanks for the insight for us prospective students. I don't really care about stuff that happened in the past. I care about how things are today and will be in the future. If the faculty are supportive of their students and want them to do well, then COMP will be my top choice. I just hear about kids failing and all and at the OMAC last month, one of the instructors was talking about how you send students to Nebraska and all that. I don't know it was just weird to hear that instead of how their latest grads are landing top residencies, etc. Please fill us in on faculty and administration... how much they put into students... in order for their students to be happy and successful. THANKS AGAIN! Your class really is an awesome group!

i'm pretty sure its going to be one articulatory and one soft tissue

Cool. Thanks for the response. 👍

Sorry Sense, I wasn't ignoring you...I actually had no idea.
It's cool. I figured you probably didn't see it.

To add though, I'm having problems keeping up with the classes myself. I just don't see how anyone can keep up with anatomy. You know for the next month every monday we're going to have a test. It's sad. As all of you have said, the only way to get through it is by taking it one day at a time. 👍

The administration seems very willing to bend in all sorts of directions to keep its students happy. No major conflicts...nothing to really test the waters though. On the surface everyone is very in tune with meeting our needs.

As far as the faculty is concerned...I don't think at this level one should ever have any really high expectations...what I mean by that is you are on your own. If you have a good professor - great! If you don't, well you should have expected as much. For every one that is thorough there is another that is a bit scattered and off the chart...what can you do? No one can do your homework for you...and the time spent in lecture is hardly enough to get you by, thus you are on your own anyway. Having said all that...as a whole, the faculty at WesternU is solid. Is there room for improvement, sure. Is there anything to really complain about...absolutely not.

Administration...very valid question -- like I said, so far so good with no sign that there ever was a problem, although it is widely accepted that there was at one point. Again, I don't know the details (nor do I care to know at this point in time).

The weekly smackdown commences this Monday and is unrelenting until the end of the semester...I'll let you know how it goes. As friedcfood once said in this thread...stay tuned for more details.

What does it mean if the patient's ankles pop up during the squat test?

the patient is restricted in his/her lower extremities. the squat test is testing lower extremity range of motion.

death is on the horizon for the patient

It's funny hearing everyone practice for the OP&P practical midterm and repeating the same thing: direct/passive technique, slow, rhythmic motion, engage barrier, prepare for HVLA....LOL

Wow, it's been a week since anybody posted. I guess biochemistry has kept free time to a minimum. How did everyone do today?

That exam had oodles (technical term) of potential to be much harder...I wonder if he is saving the best for last. His "you can pay me now or you can pay me later" comment always runs through my head. 🙂 I am sweating this Immuno exam big time 😱

How is everybody doing in general? Seems we are all against the wall here just trying to hold our own and survive...should have a beer garden in Founder's Park where we can catch a little buzz and have a few laughs in between our studies.

BEER!?
WHERE!?
BEER????
HMMM......

I have consumed one beer in two weeks. What have I turned into?? I used to be a beer-drinking fool. Now I spend my free time dreaming of Type I injurious immune responses and IgG's. 😱

Just kidding...having a great time here; although it is tough.

There is a party at Danny's tonight in Claremont. I'll be there with beer in hand. Check your email for directions.

man, i am so exhausted from constantly studying....i don't think it's even possible to be caught up on every subject...for most, you have to study anatomy everyday which takes so much of your time...and when you have a midterm coming up, like immunology, other classes like OMM, micro, biochem, physio take a back-seat...
