So I registered to take the MCAT in Jan. 2015 with how my name is spelled on my drivers license. My drivers license has an one letter misspelling so I never got it corrected because my name can be spelled different ways. So, I took the MCAT and already got my results and I will be applying to DO schools as soon as the application opens. The problem is, my name is spelled differently at my university (by one letter) so that means my transcripts will have that 'mis'-spelling. Is that an issue?? It is already too late to change the spelling on my drivers license since I have already taken the MCAT. Should I get the spelling changed at my university to match my drivers license and MCAT? Or it is fine if I leave it how it is? I just do not want to run into any problems down the road. I really appreciate any advice.

Your MCAT identity is fortified through the MCAT ID number they provide you. When you upload your MCAT score into AACOMAS (the DO application service) it's simply your MCAT score.

In terms of transcripts, I would go to the registrars office and let them know if the misspelling and ask them to spell your name correctly. Do that ASAP because administrative processing at a university can take weeks.

Thanks for the response. The actual misspelling is on my drivers license. My name is spelled correctly at my university. I really want to avoid changing my name spelling to how it is on my drivers license and MCAT (because it is incorrect). But, if I have to I will. So to clarify, are you saying that I do need to change my name spelling to how it is on my drivers license??

Nope. If the only thing in spelling that is wrong application-wise is your MCAT you should be fine since you simply upload your MCAT score into your AACOMAS application via the MCAT Thx ID number they provide you.

@Awesome Sauceome , @ChiTownBHawks , @chizledfrmstone , any input?

Yeah, I'm sure that they would not have an issue with identifying me. My SSN would be a better identification measure than how my name is spelled. At least I hope so.

You're fine. I didn't have the same exact issue of misspelling per se, but my license includes my first name and middle initial, whereas all of my school records/what I use for basically everything is my full first and middle name. The only thing that was a slight hitch was that it took a bit of time for AACOMAS to receive my MCAT scores, because of the difference in names. When I called AACOMAS (after trying to submit the score twice and waiting about ~10 business days), they were able to quickly fix the issue over the phone and my scores showed up immediately.

I really hope my application process doesn't get extended because I really need to get my app submitted ASAP. Would it be a good idea to call AACOMAS ahead of time to alert them of my situation (so it doesn't take as long)?

No, you will be completely fine if you are starting the app ASAP. You already have your score in hand, correct? When the application opens for 2015-2016, in May, you'll be able to electronically "send" your score on the first possible day (note: this is a full MONTH before you can actually submit your application). Check back, and if your score hasn't appeared in ~48 hours or so, then give them a call. I promise it will not slow down your app. I submitted on the first possible day, despite this minor snafu. If you call now, they won't really be able to do anything until you start your application!

Yeah, I already have my scores. Sounds good, thanks for clearing this up for me.

For starters, go get your license fixed, so you don't have to deal with this in the future.

Should I wait until after I am done applying and everything? Or does that not matter at this point?

Just go down to the DMV with your birth certificate and Social Security card. Get it fixed now before you have a huge mess with back ground checks, fingerprints, and other things that will come up in your future with the med school/residency/boards/licensing process.
