Confused about books

Hi

I'm starting my 1st year Undergrad Med at the University of Melbourne this year, and have been looking at all the great study tips provided on this site.

One thing that bugs me tho, is the discussion on books. What exactly are the "board review books" and USMLE books that are mentioned to be very useful?

As a med student in australia, should I buy these books? some of them are meant for US studies right? Would they still be useful for me?
