I am an IMG 5 yrs post grad, with a step 1 score of 192 from Dec '01, 6.5 years ago. I am scheduled to take step 2 this november. This falls under the 7 yrs. window period for completion of both step 1 and 2. I am somewhat conflicted over allowing my step 1 score to become invalid and start all over in hopes of achieving a higher retake score and proceeding with step 2 and taking it from there.

Please give me some advise in regards to my odds with matching in each scenario:
1. low expired step 1 score, but (hope fully) a higher retake score and passing
of step 2

2. 7yrs old passing score (192) on step 1 and recent succesful completion of
step 2...........I cant believe I waited 7 yrs to complete series

Help!!!!! From your eperiences what really matters in terms of matching as it pertains to my confusion as well as program directors preference in terms of multiple attempts, low score and long interval of graduation. I have to decide soon as the application for my step 2 has to be submitted within the week.

Thank you in advance

Fight (study) as hard as you can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:boom:

I think u should wait for the step1 score to expire,study hard,use the right material,take step1 again,2/3 months would b good for step 1 .

I doubt you can simply wipe the slate clean like that. Wouldn't they report all scores for all the times you take them?

Why has it been so long between steps 1 and 2? Are you an IMG or MD/PhD?

If you're an IMG, doing the best you can on step 2 and getting back on the medical track is paramount over getting higher step 1 score.

Residency directors are very suspicious of anything that falls outside of the norm.

Actually, 7 year time frame applies to ALL 3 Steps, not just 1& 2. I think, your only option at this point is to start from scratch.
