I took the June MCAT and got a 25Q (ps-9 v-8 bio-8). Which is very low. My average going into the MCAT was around a 27-28 with a range of 27-33. My cgpa is 3.7 and sgpa is 3.65.

Should I retake the exam for August? I don't know what I should do.

Just my two cents, since no one else has answered you yet--
have you already submitted the amcas for this year? because if you haven't, i would suggest waiting until next year to apply. It's already august 4th, you don't have enough time to re-prep for the august MCAT and expect to do significantly better, and if you do worse for some reason, it will be a major red flag. It's not worth it/helpful to re-take and get a 27. Because all of the scores are looked at, you really want to aim for a 29+, you need to have a clear improvement and not a by-chance improvement.

So, if you haven't submitted your AMCAS, spend a while preparing for the MCAT again, and don't take it until you're consistently scoring over a 30 on your practice tests.
If you have already submitted your AMCAS, then I would suggest you just continue on with the application process, as you shouldn't retake if you're not sure there will be a significant improvement. You have a solid GPA, and hopefully the rest of your application will show the reasons a school should accept you. If you get interviews, be confident. Realize that by offering you an interview, the school has decided "this student is interesting enough that we are considering him/her, the whole package, even with this mcat score", and go in and show them why you're that awesome.

If you're deciding whether or not to apply still this season, I'd suggest holding off-- you want to apply when you are the strongest applicant you can possibly be. Reapplying puts you at a slight disadvantage, and you don't want to put yourself in that position in the future. Feel free to email me if I can help you with anything, [email protected]. and good luck!

👍 I second this advice.

I would advise against taking the August exam if you can't figure out why you scored so low and correct the situation. It's August right now which means that you would have to be very close to ready to ace the MCAT in order to get a very high score. If you score anything under 30, coupled with that 25, you may "tank" your application permanently.

Spend some objective and quality study time so that you can get a very strong score on your retake. Two mediocre score (no matter what your uGPA) will not help you gain admission into medical school (read "red-flag"). You need to beat the matriculant average (which is around 30) on your re-take.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, I already submitted my AMCAS last week so that's out. I've re-taken some MCATs within the week

AAMC 3 - 10 10 10
AAMC 5 - 10 13 11
AAMC 7- 9 9 10

I've re-taken some MCATs

Do not allow "re-taken" tests to give you a false sense of security. Taking the same test for a second time is not even close to taking an actual MCAT. No matter how many times you convince yourself you didn't remember the answers or passages from the first time. Believe me when I tell I've been down that road, back, and around.
