We are aware that many examinees prefer using earplugs to block out the distraction of ambient noise while taking examinations. Although USMLE prohibits the possession of personal items in the testing room, primarily because of the challenge that particular items can present to the maintenance of security, USMLE has decided, effective immediately, to begin allowing examinees to bring and use soft-foam earplugs during the Step 1, 2 CK, and 3 under the following conditions:

* The soft foam earplugs must be out of the packaging and ready for inspection by test center staff during check in.
* Earplugs must be left at the workstation during all breaks.

Examinees who bring earplugs to these USMLE examinations must realize that if they violate the conditions stated above, then they will be denied use of the earplugs. Further, if based upon inspection, the test center staff have any concerns about the earplugs, then the test center staff may prevent the examinee from using the earplugs during testing.

I don´t think you´re allowed to bring your own pair with you.

When I took the exam last thursday the prometrics clerk handed me a pair of earplugs.

I took my test last Friday; you can definitely bring your own earplugs; you just have to show them to the staff at the testing site and you must either have them on or in your pocket during the test.

Ah ok, then you should consider to bring your own earplugs with you.
The ones from Prometrics are ok, but personally I prefer more deformable ones like those made out of wax.

yes you can bring your own earplugs i took the test today with my own

are you really so helpless though that you need advice on $1 roll up foam earplug brands

horatio alger, where is your country?

some block out more sound. all foam is not the same.

anyhow, i went and bought some cheap Hearos plugs at walgreens, and I don't like the foam.

the foam plugs don't sit well in my ear. they tend to puff up and almost slip out.

the silicone plugs I used to have fit better.

but we can't bring silicone plugs??
