You get a guaranteed paycheck without having to worry about the hassle of the business side? I think the trade-off is less pay/autonomy in exchange for not having to worry so much about practice management and all the administrative issues.

Corporate dentistry could seriously change dentistry for the sole proprietor. Corporate dentistry has a bad reputation for quality at the present time.
Corporate dentistry is a growing power, and you should think twice before supporting corporate dentistry by taking employment at a dental corporation.

Corporate dentistry could seriously change dentistry for the sole proprietor, if dentists aren't careful...... Take optometry for a parallel example. Optometry used to be in the cottage stage like dentistry is now. America's Best, Standard Optical, Walmart Optical, Costco Optical, etc, where not known 15 years ago. Now guess who sells more glasses and does more exams than any other company in the nation? #1 Walmart Optical, #2 Costco Optical (search google for optical companies ranked by sales) All that money could have been in Optometrists and Opthamologists pockets. This rise of corporate optometry has seriously hurt optometrist and has left them scrambling to sign up for every insurance they can get on. (I worked as an optician for 5 years before dental school and have experienced this first hand in the practice I worked in)

Corporate dentistry has a bad reputation for quality dentistry at the present time....... The only dentists at the present time that accept employment at places such as Aspen Dental, Dental One, Monarch Dental, Western Dental, Heartland Dental, etc, are new dentists who are working on speed and are rushed because of the large patient flow at such places. Quality therefore goes down. Eventually the new dentist leaves so a patient going to such places does not have just one dentist who cares about them individually and know them and there dental history. Corporate dentistry advertises much cheaper prices than independent dentistry but the patient ends up paying more in the end and having more problems in the end.

Corporate dentistry is a growing power, and you should think twice before supporting corporate dentistry by taking employment at a dental corporation........ Don't support it, it will destroy your profession in the end. Or, on the other hand, jump on the bandwagon before its too late. You be the judge.

My sister worked for a chain.... I think midwestern dental, its mostly located in michigan. It was right after graduation. They paid her, this is 10 years back, about $350/day, along with bonuses if she generated a specific amount for the day. She was making good money (the bonuses and all) but she hated it, couldn't do it for more than 6 months, and she was parttime only, I think 2 days a week?

But the advantages are: well, you get to have a 9-5-ish job (keyword = 'ISH') And by that I mean, when 5PM hits, you are ready to go home, but the receptionist had a patient sitting in the waiting area since 3:30, she just "forgot" to tell you until 5 PM rolled around hahaha, it sounds funny right? well, it happened so often that it wasn't funny any more lmao
