Being a non-traditional student, many years ago I took a few classes at a college, and withdrew from the college appropriately before the deadline. I have since graduated from another institution and gotten an advanced degree. When filling out my aacomas application, the courses at that other school never even entered my mind, until i saw a post that discussed forgetting a school. My aacomas application is currently processing and pending verification, Is it too late to stop the process and have that trascript sent to them for inculsion? I did not intentially leave it out, and do not want to be deemed a liar! if they will not let me alter it at this point, what are the odds they will find out I went to the other school and it will affect me? Im not suggesting that I would rather "get away with" leaving it out, but want to know how they go about checking up on these things. I would prefer to have it sent asap, and included just for honestly sake...let me know

When I originally sent my AACOMAS, I forgot to include my grades from the entire "coursework" section when I submitted it. As soon as I found out, I emailed them and within a few days they let me re-open, fix, and re-submit it. Even after re-submitting it, I forgot to include a class on there from my original transcript but they fixed and added it in for me (part of their job during the 6 wk verification process, haha). Anyway, I would just send them an email explaining your situation and they respond pretty quickly, so good luck.

not quite two weeks...what im most worried about it the delay this will cause. I could kick myself for the oversight, but what I did at that school was so long ago and such a blip on the radar, that I honestly never even thought about it. i would rather be able to ignore it and let the whole process complete itself, but im pretty sure that is not an option legistically, and def not an option ethically...

Call or email (through the support link within the app) and have them reopen the application. Then you'll have to enter the new school's info, send the transcripts to AACOMAS, enter your classes from that school, and resubmit. That'll cost you about 3 weeks or so, but is probably better than having to be partially reverified later.

to be honest with you, it was so long ago im not sure what it says...they could be WP grades or WF grades...it was a rough patch in my life and I cant remember the details, so it will be news to me when I get those transcripts myself....

I just found out that once I find out what my PIN is at that school, i can request everything online, so maybe that will speed up the process. My GPA is pretty darn good, and wouldnt be hurt too much by a ding if the grades are WF...but lets hope for the best. purely theoretically...if I did nothing at this point what would happen? How can they find out I even went there?

Well all institutions of higher education have to do audits. I think the big ones are once every 10 years. At that point, the med school you attend could easily see that you attended other schools and would have the option of taking away any degrees granted. In short, bad news. 😱:wow:

yeah a delay is not worth the risk of something like that happening definatly...plus the will probably look at my nslds and see that i got finacial aid for a time period with no record....

Wow, CB, I didn't even know that long face existed (the second one at the end of your post).

To the OP, I would request an unofficial (cheaper) copy of the transcript for yourself first, see if there was indeed any physical written record of anything important, and then forward an official copy to AACOMAS if it comes to that point. Otherwise, you may end up delaying for no reason. But I guess in the long run a few weeks delay couldn't hurt compared to what CB mentioned.

Yeah if you have the pin that lets you request transcripts online, you might be able to check your grades online too. If so, make sure there are actual letters entered in your transcript. If there aren't, I don't think you'd have to report anything. Sounds like you're pretty sure there are W's or something though.

Ok will do, thanks you guys, this site is so helpful.
Let me ask you what you think my chances are overall...
I said im a non-traditional student...actually, I am a practicing chiropractor...
I graduated from undergrad in 2003 with a 3.5...science gpa 3.67...
graduated from chiropractic school in 2006 with a 3.2....the courses of course were more difficult...
almost 2 years of direct patient contact working 50 hours a week...
took the mcat without studying, (impossible while working 50 hours a week🙂) and did pretty crappy...22 Q.....verbal was my highest score...
lots of ec stuff in undergrad not so much in chiro school...no time for it...

Do you think I have a shot?

Honestly, if I were you, I'd dedicate every free second to a January retake, while still applying this year. Otherwise, people have received acceptances this late with your stats. But it's not the norm and you'll likely have to reapply.

Another likely scenario is a waitlist decision. If that's the case, you could find yourself still hoping to get pulled off the waitlist in June/July, to no avail, then you're forced to reapply anyway. Now you wouldn't have much time to study for the MCAT or you'd be forced to take it later. It becomes a vicious cycle. I'd prefer to be cautious than get caught in a trap that can waste a few years of your life. Just my thoughts.

You'll also need specific letters of recommendation, which could vary by school, since you've been out of school for a while. A DO letter wouldn't hurt, either, and is required for certain schools. Some DO shadowing time could help, as well.

Exactly. This is my second time re-applying and I could very well be entering a 3rd due to lack of careful planning.

Better to be certain when you do apply than always be on the fringe and hoping for the "what if" each cycle.

I echo CB's advice in doing whatever you can to retake the MCAT for Jan. I think even a 24 would increase your chances tremendously at some schools, but I'm no adcom. Good luck 🙂
