Hi everyone. I am choosing between 2 different OT programs. They are both the same length but when all is said and done, the one will cost about 25,000 more than the other. I prefer the more expensive school, but I am concerned about debt afterwards. It is smarter to just go with the cheaper school?

I wonder if a good way to think about it is by figuring out how long you would need to work to pay the difference between the two schools off... and think about if you would consider working that long for free to be able to go to the more expensive school?

I say go with the school you are more comfortable with and happy to attend. Then worry about cost. The 25k is really a small price to pay for your happiness. My other school was 50k more all said and done. It was just a bonus the school I wanted to go to was cheaper.

I have to agree with both affa and STHERE. A little of both pieces of advice will probably help your heart feel right about these choices. It is really scary to think about a school that costs $25k extra, but if you ultimately feel in your gut that THAT school is the place for you then I say go for it! At the same time if you can envision yourself in both programs then I know I would be crunching number and pros/cons. Congrats on getting into 2 programs! 😀

If all things are equal, I would go to the less expensive school. If the less expensive school has other negatives like bad location or far from family or whatever, then I'd think about the "human" cost of saving money... But yeah, less debt, and you'll still be an OT in the end. That's my 2 cents. 🙂
