Just kiddin...I can't believe this time of year is already here. All that time spending countless hours in the library, shadowing dentists, etc. I'm either going to be really HAPPY or really STRESSED! So much is on the line and it all comes down to DEC 1. Well, not really... I'm sure lots of people are going to get accepted after DEC 1.

Normally there was always a similar countdown tread in the past but this one is very early! Sit tight, it will be a bumpy ride.

Yea-makes it worse thinking that it might be a few days to weeks after the first.
Are schools really good about sending out letters on the first?

Or do they send them at their convienence?

For UNC, the selection meeting held on DEC 7th. which means the acceptance letter will not be in your mailbox unitil DEC 13~14

no. I wouldn't say that if I didn't know for sure. I know two other applicants who have been told that they'll get an acceptance letter. I know some students who apply to one or two schools because even before applying they are accepted.

He's not bluffing. The dean of admissions at UNLV said that a national convention was held that all the admissions people had to attend for the dental schools, and it was brought up at this meeting about changing the date of notifying the students on a different date. Well, Dec. 1st was voted on and for another year this will be the date. However, I then asked her if some schools notify before Dec. 1st, she said, "Unfortunately yes, but they shouldn't." She didn't tell what schools of course, but it was obvious that she knew personally that some schools do.

I went to a dental school for my interview. The same subject came up (i.e. early informal acceptance). The dean of admissions said that we shouldn't go to any dental school that breaks the rules, gives hints and tells applicants if they are accepted prior to December 1st. The dean said that it's unethical, it's totally irresponsible, etc etc and we should avoid those schools. So, I thought this school has high moral & ethical principles. Was I wrong? Of course. Right after my interview at that university my interviewer told me several times "We'd like to see you in our school next year" "We hope to see you in our school next year" etc etc I guess I have to listen to the dean and avoid his/her irresponsible & unethical school.

I got the same impression on one of my interviews too. I didn't get a single question on the interview. My interviewer straight out told me "You'll have many choices... but of course we really want you to choose our school." "I hope to see you again nxt year." "we wish you would seriously consider attending XXXX." It really feels like an informal acceptance notice.

i remember one of the medical or dental schools got hacked last year and the names of the accepted applicants released early. i hope it doesn't happen again 🙂

Just a warning on those of you who think you already have an informal acceptance . . . don't count your chickens before they are hatched. You aren't accepted till you have that letter in your hand. When I was applying to med school, one of the interviewers told me that I was going to get into that particular school for sure . . . and guess what? I wasn't accepted to that particular school. Just because the interviewer "wants to see you there next year" doesn't mean squat. The entire adcom has to want to see you there . . .

Adcoms are trying to sell the school just as much as you are trying to sell yourself.

An informal acceptance is bunch of hot air being blown up your xxx. Most schools won't be able to tell you anything regarding your position at the interview. And why would they-they may have another 200 interviews to also pick from. It doesn't mean anything unless you have the acceptance in your hand.

It's true. AA = 30 or GPA = 4.0 doesn't guarantee anything. Each school has many strong candidates but one can say it's at least a good sign. Does an interviewer tell an applicant he/she is a strong candidate when the interviewer, for sure, knows that the candidate will be rejected shortly after the interview??!! An informal accptance is not a formal acceptance but it's a good sign.

I think that it is better to prepare for the worst and hope for the best-
There are a lot of Good Signs in the application process-but a good sign won't get you a DMD or DDS like a true acceptance can.
